Until I see otherwise I'm going with this is just Ottawa's yearly "we're out of the playoffs so let's start winning to get fans excited for next year" phase.

Now that doesn't mean they won't qualify for the playoffs, but I expect a cold run in the next week or two will cool off at least the "waltzing" part.
Except the winning started America thanksgiving (November 24th).
640% since then, good for 8th in the league since then. So it wasn’t a run at the end of the season.
They do have a tough schedule to finish though.

I'm hoping the sens make and play Boston.

Sens have the team that can agitate the Bruins and make them play more in the gutter than a chess match game where I think the sens can get the upper hand.

If they want to play a straight up hockey game, sens would battle well, but ultimately be overran in my books
I think the season series is 2-1 Ottawa.

The sens have a tough schedule and need to keep up this pace if they're going to make it.

No waltzing into the playoffs. They'll have to fight for every point. Every loss will set them back a foot and every win will push them inches ahead.

It looks like they have as good a shot right now as any of the 4 or 5 teams duking it out ... but one little losing skid can derail anyone.

Itll be a fun finish to the year!

I think the season series is 2-2.
2-2, or 2-1 sens.

However, regular season record against a team means Jack shit.

The last Senators game I watched was their loss to the Bruins a couple of weeks ago. Ottawa is definitely the lesser talented team, but they showed a lot of heart and played with serious effort. From what little I’ve seen, with a couple tweaks to the roster, they will take the next step.

I’ll say this much… the Senators didn’t roll over in the third period like I’ve seen several other teams quit against the Bruins.

I am not interested in a Bruins-Senators first round matchup.

Very interested to see what this team will look like with a healthy Norris up front

They've got a very difficult schedule, especially down the stretch. These are their last 16 games:

Carolina x2
Toronto x2
Tampa x2
Boston
New Jersey
Colorado
Edmonton
Pittsburgh
Florida x2
Buffalo
Columbus
Philadelphia

8 of 16 those games are against the top 5 teams in the east. Only 5 games against non-playoff teams, and 3 of those are against Florida and Buffalo.

They need to make hay while they can.

Exactly. If they want to be a Playoff team, they have to beat those Playoff teams. The most important aspect is that they control their likely outcome. They just need to out-win the Islanders and the Sabers. I like those odds.

Sens are playing well, but they have a decently crappy schedule moving forward (minus their next 2-3 games). So it's going to be tough. They basically need to win the majority of games going forward (because Buffalo, Pens and Isles keep winning).

I am happy they are playing well, and I'm thrilled with what they've put together this last year. But I'm not holding my breath on playoffs this year

I think Ottawa gets to WC1. The Chychrun trade puts them over the top as it would have done for Buffalo. Ottawa however is built much better for the playoffs than the Sabres.

I doubt that, the Bruins barely broke a sweat against the Sens this year. In the playoffs the Bruins would be as motivated as the Sens and would make very quick work of them.
Ottawa is 2-1 against Boston... Bostons only win was at home and the sens were on a back to back and was a tight game shots were 32-31... You sure ya got the right team?
If the sens find a way to get in which is a long shot. Boston is clearly a large favorite but your statement isn't very accurate about this season thus far.

They are my #2 team right now since Calgary sucks ass and are a bunch of failures. Only other Canadian team I can actively cheer for (Montreal and Winnipeg I'm meh about, the rest I could never do).

You should watch the games then. Since Senators lead the series.

I don’t know if the Sabres or senators make the playoffs this year, but really think both teams have turned the page and have very exciting cores. As a Sabres fan, I’m rooting for the senators just so I can start to hate them again.

Detroit is also in the upswing, but I just don’t see nearly as high of potential with that team

That schedule though

I don't know if it's any harder.

Historically, teams who have the playoffs clinched are not actually that hard to beat at the end of the regular season.

Plenty of examples of 100+ point teams being about .500 for the last 10 games as they rest players or play not to get injured.

How many games you got against Toronto and Tampa? Those are wins right there. Looks like both of those teams have checked out mentally from the regular season lately.

Two homes games against the Leafs and Tampa. I think both the Leafs and Tampa start turning it up at that point as its the end of the year and by then the lightning turn the corner and by then the leafs start to develop some chemistry with all the turnover they have had.

They have some late season games in April. One Toronto, one Tampa, two Carolina that might be easier than they normally should be.

The hardest stretch should be March 14->March27: Oilers, Avs, Leafs, Pens, Bruins, Lightning, Devils, and Panthers. If the Bruins/Devils likely haven't checked out by then and the Leafs and Lightning might not be qualified yet and might wake up. Plus the Pens, Avs, Panthers, and Oilers might all be fighting for spots still too.
