describing 4C as in shambles is just ridiculous

I'm sure you will be the first to praise Jimmy after he signs McClement to a contract. The standard BS homer description of any player signed by the Pens: great lockerroom guy, fantastic penalty killer, veteran presence, low-risk high reward, bargain contract etc.

not what we need. imo

Uhhh What? He's exactly what we need! He's one of the better #3c's in the league.

I mean what exactly is it we're looking for?

- Drives play into the offensive end
- Good on faceoffs
- Good defensively
- Affordable contract

Sobotka checks off every one of those boxes and then some.

The guy who was playing 4C when we won the Cup 3 months ago is currently slated to be our 4C to start the year...

He seems to burn out in the playoffs because he plays bigger than he is. He also has left the NHL over the money before.

I'd pass.

Quick skater too iirc?

Shame Blues fans reckon they have no interest in trading him.

Also the idea that 4C is a shambles is, well, a shambles.

The first thing can be managed, and he's also more experienced now.

The latter is a concern, but if we can't get a long-term option I would rather have Sobotka and see if Blueger or someone improves, than to go after someone like Sheahan who is absolutely not as good as Sobotka and might not end up being on that level ever.

I don't think JR is going to be shoehorned into one player. He'll be willing to move the necessary assets to fill our need.

I still think we need an offensive guy to replace the combo of Bones/Cullen we lost. Especially if we're not upgrading on Cullen. You can coach Rowney to take tough D zone starts away from the 3C.

Not saying it's gotta be Duchene or RNH. But someone who can get Phil the puck and make 3 potent lines again.

Being competitive and legit going for a third Cup are two different things. I'm cool with the former since it's unrealistic to expect the latter. But I think JR's waiting game is to make this team a clear cut favorite.

If Reaves walks and we get knocked out in the 1st round or one of our players gets a concussion or injury like the one in the Caps series against Crosby. What if we win a cup and Reaves is a scratch the entire playoffs. What exactly was the point of bringing in Reaves?

If Sundqvist or Kostin become young 20pt+ players for the Blues, I guarantee you people will be talking about how we could've drafted Kostin, but instead Old Rutherford traded for Reaves because we needed physicality.

I don't agree with that sentiment at all, but we will see it just as much as we see people lamenting the Pouliot pick.

Does it ever get tiring being so ****ing pessimistic? Seriously. Everyone of your posts is pissing on something. It must be exhausting living that way.

Since you added a few what ifs, let's do the same on the other side of the coin.

What if Reaves scores 10g/25pts? What if the pens win a 3rd straight cup, with them from the 4th line that has surprisingly good chemistry?
What if Reaves lays out some sucker (legally) when they go near Sid or Geno, without taking a suspension?

Has it ever occurred to you that some of these things might happen?

I said Rurherford left the 3C and 4C in shambles. He was hellbent on acquiring Reaves. Everyone ignores discussing the 3C part because there's nothing you can say except you hope Jimmy might get around to it.

I'm not sure how else you describe losing Bonino and Cullen to essentially replacing them with Rowney and McClement. I'd consider that in shambles myself. Cue the you can't force a trade!

His career high in points in a season is 13. Yes the Pens are a better team than the Blues, but Reaves will be playing on our untalented 4th line. It's not like he's going to be playing with Sid or Geno all game. I'm not sure how a 30 year old is going to double his career points in a season suddenly.

McClement literally isn't even on the team. And as you said, we have a 4C there, with another PTO for competition. How is the 4C spot in shambles?

In what world is 25 points for Reaves remotely possible?

I like how you are using the nickname "Jimmy" in an insulting manner towards JR.

The old man really is clueless, has only built 2 cup winners in the last 2 seasons. What a hack.

Given that McClement isn't signed to the team and we know Rutherford does intend to trade for a 3C at some point, I'd consider that factually inaccurate.

Again, Jimmy's done a great job until this summer. I just hope it's a coincidence that Botterill left at the same time management started making questionable decisions. Only time will tell.

I will ease up here. I've made my peace. I just didn't want to hear the hindsight is 2020 bs if I didn't state my concerns now

I mean, I could see Reaves being a solid plug, but if he puts up 25 pts that would be insane.

Also, was it pessimistic to feel bad about the Despres trade? Seemed fine back then.

You spent all summer getting your post count up being negative. I go through your post history and you barely post in the playoffs at all. I started questioning if this was a gimmick or if you are just a cup half empty person. You only came on to say the Pens would lose against the Caps with Flower in net. You don't post at all when we are winning, just to post negative stuff. You posted once during the Finals, and neither were for Games 5/6.

Do you actually like the Pens or do you just like negativity? I'm just trying to figure out the gameplan going forward.

Everything is in shambles, you fool. #Tankin4Dahlin

The Pens might as well just sell off their aging veterans at this point. Without a legitimate 3C on the roster in the off-season, it's clear the only teams they're going to be battling against are Vegas and Colorado for the chance to draft 1st overall.

If he just loved negativity he would live in the Bucs thread though. It's warranted and encouraged in that environment.

I love the Pens. I have such high hopes because we have 2 generational players. I feel like Shero pissed away years of their careers. Rutherford has done a fantastic job. I think it's the people around here and their opinions that set me off more than Rutherford. This laid back attitude for the 3C gets old. i feel like Jim could do almost anything and half of the board would praise him.

I just hate what the team has done this summer. Reaves is a garbage player. Our centers suck compared to last season. I just see the team as regressing after this summer and that takes me back to the Shero years. He used to get a free pass for years for literally any awful decision he made. Cue the it's only September comments.

Your answer proves the point you are not actually in this for anything other than to bait. If that were true you would really enjoy 2 cups in a row AND you probably would have posted when we won.

Eventually you end up shooting yourself in the foot when you try to toss out too much bait. It gives it away.
