Fields at 26 million over the next 2 seasons is not in play. We literally dumped Mitch who had way better numbers and success in Chicago than Fields

IMO, Fields will not cost 26mil over the next two seasons. He will cost 3mil for 2024 and he will either sign an extension with whoever trades for him that will be like the Love deal of 1 year 12mil or he will play out the contract. He doesn't have the pull to get the 5th year option.

Especially if Cousins goes to Atlanta. He won't be a presumptive starter on any team trading for him. Somebody like the Rams or Jets might look to pick him up to backup their starters but then they won't be giving up much. I'm convinced the other QB needy teams are gonna draft one in the 1st or 2nd and sign an FA.

If I was the Steelers I wouldn't trade a Day 1 (obviously) or Day 2 pick for him. And I have been one of his ardent supporters for making a deal. But I have said all along that the pick this year should be like a 4th and then maybe a slide pick due to performance next year.

Reputation/distant history aside, what makes anyone think Wilson is "competition" for Pickett or a sure-fire starter over Pickett but Tannehill would jut e a backup? What in his recent history suggests Wilson is better than Tannehill or should be thought of differently.

I didn’t watch Wilson last year, but Tannehill was pretty bad.

If KP can’t beat out the version of Tannehill I saw, it’s definitely time to move on.

Wilson's TD numbers I guess. Maybe I should go watch all his TDs and see how much was him.

That's the competition part though. Sure-fire starter stuff, I don't think you can set reputation aside because most times that's what decides it.

I do wonder what Wilson's own expectations are. My guess is he's not signing without a handshake that he's starting. But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe nobody in the league will shake his hand on that and he'll settle. I'd expect him to wait for an injury if that's what happens but I could easily be wrong.

I think there's also a part of this where Wilson's rep means do teams want him hanging around the locker room if he's not starting?

If Fields truly has no suitors like is being rumored, maybe he doesn’t even command more than a random day 3 pick. At which point, you don’t have enough invested in him that you have to pick up that 5th year option.

Would just be a 1 year 5m trial run.

Unlikely, but not totally out of the realm of possibility.
Or i just draft a rookie with ly 4th like Jordan Travis and have him for 4 years making less than 5 million

Wilson was bad.

I realize Wilson is, career-wise, the better player, has been a difference maker, etc. But right now I don't feel like he's any more "competition" for Pickett than Tannehill is. But there's this sense that "yeah Russ if you want competition, Tannehill if you want a vet backup."

The graphic I posted included his extremely poor 2022 season, and he's still got better numbers across the board than Pickett.

3m in dead cap :(

Why did we give him that 2nd year again? I guess maybe that's why he signed here

I’m going to go with Mark Schlereth’s opinion he was “garbage”.

Sounds like MR really doesn’t want to come back, but I assume the market will dictate that.

I think the Steelers like to give a second year to keep the first year cap hit down. All their 2 year deals are pretty much 1 year deals with a team option for year 2.

I just don't know what other offers he was getting from teams in FA. Maybe we weren't the only one to offer him a 2 year deal?

But in hindsight offering that to a 33 year old CB seems foolish.

$3 million in dead cap this year is better than paying Peterson what he was owed IMO.

For sure, and we were kind of put in a tough spot with Sutton leaving. Just feels unnecessary having to give that 2nd year, unless it's what led to him signing here.

Petersen was due a 3mil roster bonus. And his caphit this season would have been like 9.2mil.

Like Robinson, I'm sure they had conversations with him to see if he would forgo the roster bonus and take less salary and they would have kept him. I am fine with moving on.

So far I am really liking the Khan and Wiedl GM team. If you are not performing they will not just keep you because of feels.

Looking at ~12m in dead cap for 2024, pending whatever we do with ARob. Not sure how that compares to other teams across the league.

I'm gonna guess that is pretty low....in comparison with the rest of the league.

Looks like Over the cap has them at around 11th lowest, prior to the Peterson release, so they will be 10-15th.

Honestly I'm all aboard for Wilson at this point. Even if he sucks and isn't better than Pickett somehow, I think the cap space you'd save by paying him vet minimum is worth bringing him in. Much rather pay him vet minimum than pay Rudolph something like $6 million a year.

I'm bored so here we go

Wilson TD1 (vs LVR) - Great TD on Wilson. Bails on the pocket a little easy but nice pass on the move into a pretty tight window
Wilson TD2 (vs LVR) - Good TD. Again, bails on the pocket. Sutton gives him good separation for a nice easy pass.
Wilson TD3 (vs WSH) - Great TD. 60 yards out, hits a long ball to Mims when he gets separation. Yeah he had to wait a moment but still an A grade I'd have thought.
Wilson TD4 (vs WSH) - Easy TD. The play has given the receiver a walk-in if Wilson hits a 10 yard pass to an open dude. That's the sort of playcall we've been screaming for.
Wilson TD5 (vs WSH) - Fluky as all hell TD. He throws a hail mary that falls a few yards short but is bobbled in by three different hands for a Bronco to catch.
Wilson TD6 (vs MIA) - Great TD. escapes pressure, throws 20 yards while on the move to lead a guy.
Wilson TD7 (vs CHI) - Very easy TD. A checkdown at the 20 goes all the way.
Wilson TD8 (vs CHI) - Easy TD. Strong protection and wide, wide open man in the red zone.
Wilson TD9 (vs CHI) - Good TD. Nice dart over the middle to Sutton.
Wilson TD10 (vs NYJ) - Very easy TD. A checkdown/screen at the 20 goes all the way.
Wilson TD11 (vs NYJ) - Easy TD. Strong protection and wide, wide open man in the red zone.
Wilson TD12 (vs KAN) - Thankyou WR TD. Credit for floating that one to where only Sutton could get it, but that is an exceptional one handed catch under pressure from Sutton. Guess Good TD?
Wilson TD13 (vs GB) - Good TD. Nice touch pass over the Cb for Sutton who's roasting the guy.
Wilson TD14 (vs KAN) - Very easy TD. Is rolling out but there's nothing so he goes the other way on a checkdown, who takes it the 10 yards through some guys (or maybe that was the play, either way, not much on QB).
Wilson TD15 (vs KAN) - Easy TD. Nice touch pass but Jeudy has roasted a guy and is wide open in the end zone.
Wilson TD16 (vs KAN) - Good TD. The good bit is escaping the pressure. The throw is easy enough because Sutton is wide wide open again.

That takes you up to Denver's bye. That was a video of every Denver TD and I think I only saw one rushing TD. That in itself feels kind of aberrant and I feel maybe helps explain Wilson's high number of TDs... everything went through him.

In any case, he certainly wasn't just shoveling off checkdowns all the time but I think the scheme and WRs definitely did a lot for him. Plus obviously this doesn't show what happened when it didn't go in.

Not doing nothing, not looking like a guy who's going to take all those TDs to his next port of call.
