This is why I keep trying to caution ppl on wanting FA QBs and trades for other teams sloppy seconds.

I was trying to explain this about MT two years ago but apparently he was exactly what Canada needed being all mobile and such.

Only feasible way to get a franchise QB is via the draft.

Draft a guy, give him three years, rinse and repeat until it works.

Anything else is running on the hamster wheel.
You're not wrong, I would just add that if it looks likely that the guy you drafted hasn't shown enough flashes heading into year 3, you start looking at alternatives early.

Russ on a low cost short term deal doesn't preclude us from taking a QB next year.

If they draft a QB even at 1 this year, I wouldn’t get mad.

Wilson is suppose to be a huge douche nugget and his teammates generally seem to dislike him.

But if they think he can help them win, do whatever.

Doesn’t cost picks so doesn’t much matter to me.

This is something I'm musing about. I mean, theoretically, yeah, Wilson can be a one year stop-gap.

Which makes me wonder whether he's really going to play on vet minimum. I don't know the guy, I don't know how his head is wired... but you've got think at least a couple of times "I don't want to keep getting moved around, I want to sign a contract that'll keep me in one place" right?

*shrugs* We'll see. But I wonder how it turns out.

I also think the team would give him too much rope regardless of the money, largely because they give everyone too much rope.

Do we really trust Dulac?

No, but this would be one hell of a thing to get wrong, even for him.

When it comes to most things where his opinion is involved, absolutely not. If he’s reported a meeting is going to take place, then one of his golf buddies in the front office probably told him so I’ll buy this one

Honestly my biggest point of skepticism would be "what if the Steelers are meeting Wilson just to be able to claim they tried everything but don't really intend on making an offer". I'm not saying that's likely, but if we're playing media kremlinology, anything is possible.

There have been so many contradictory reports about what the Steelers are thinking at QB that pretty much nothing would surprise me at this point.

Yeah I was skeptical of the vet min stuff earlier in this thread. I think $10-15m is probably more in the range he gets from someone. The more he gets paid, the more that signals the team is invested in him. Although Denver did just eat $85m in dead cap to cut ties with him

He's already said he'll sign for the minimum. Whether he get $1 or $5mm the net amount will be the same.

Money is the same, job security isn't. But more importantly - do you have a link to him actually saying it? Because I've heard a few times that's what he's said, but I've never seen a straight up quote on it.

Russ would cost us less than Tannehill. I think it’s pretty clear the Steelers are targeting low-risk vets (Russ, Tanny, Rudolph) on the cheaper side in free agency.

I understand all the hate talk on Pickett as Steelers fans did the exact same to Polamalu, Heyward, and Timmons because they didn’t come out as All Pros in year one or two.

But I’m more patient. Especially when I knew Pickett should have sat for a year, just not for the likes of Trubisky but more of a Russell Wilson. Now that this is possible, I say do it. Let the OL and Offense altogether build an identity and then introduce KP to an actual NFL caliber Offense.

Russell Wilson WILL BE the Pittsburgh Steelers 2024-2025 starting quarterback and it will be the best Steelers acquisition in years. Pickett fanboys need to just accept that an old washed up Wilson is still ten times better than Kenny. The Kenny Pickett Experiment was a huge disaster and set the Steelers back multiple years.

Experiment? Remind me to stay way from anything you experiment on since that “experience” has only been two seasons. Seasons he should have sat and learn at that due to having one of the worst OL in the league.

Why he literally said he learned nothing from watching Mason down the stretch. He was the most pro ready qb he wasn’t some raw 21 like fields. The o line gave up 1 sack with Mason in

I meant his first season in regards to the OL. Broderick Jones was a massive pickup. And I think he didn’t learn anything or so he says because he was benched and didn’t expect it. Immature to say yes, but he’s still NFL years young. I’m not giving up on him until we have a franchise Center.

If Pickett doesn’t perform well with a franchise Center then I’d call it quits on him.

The o line could be Trent Williams Quinten Nelson zack martin creed humpfry lane Johnson and would still sack himself

We get you hate Pickett but no need to lie about this.
