You're not wrong, I would just add that if it looks likely that the guy you drafted hasn't shown enough flashes heading into year 3, you start looking at alternatives early.This is why I keep trying to caution ppl on wanting FA QBs and trades for other teams sloppy seconds.
I was trying to explain this about MT two years ago but apparently he was exactly what Canada needed being all mobile and such.
Only feasible way to get a franchise QB is via the draft.
Draft a guy, give him three years, rinse and repeat until it works.
Anything else is running on the hamster wheel.
Russ on a low cost short term deal doesn't preclude us from taking a QB next year.
