Last season GP was targeted 117 times DJ 94 and Pat 54. The issue is Robinson was eating 52 targets. Heyward got 36 and CA3 32. If you take Robinson 52 away and give Muth Heyward and Ca3 14 more each you can give GP the remaining 10 from Robinson. Just treat Muth as wr 3

Robinson saw 18 of his 49 targets when Johnson was out though. Over 33% of the targets in under 25% of the games. Probably more.

This is why you can't say "we're just going to delete WR3's targets and hand them around" because WR3 is often getting targets when WR1 and 2 aren't an option. You're also going to have a rather unhappy Diontae Johnson if you keep him at his regular season 87 targets rather than bumping him to where he'd be if he'd played a full season. He doesn't want *checks maths* 5.11 targets a game. That's a very considerable fall from his 6.7 targets a game. It's the kind of fall where, honestly, why are you even keeping him if there's a return?

Which honestly is kind of the question anyway. It's not for his leadership. It's not for his well rounded game.

And, talented as Johnson is, it's not for his and Pickett's wonderful connection. They got better and can get better but they 1 TD pass last season. 1. Could have been 2 if not for ref weirdness and Johnson not surrendering the ball before it's beyond doubt, but that doesn't make it hugely better. I don't have the patience to do all of Johnson's stats with Pickett but I really doubt it looks like a great important WR to him.

So is the plan to keep him and give him a new contract for the next QB that'll kick in when he's 29?

DJ has gone 36 games without a 100 yard game.

36!

GP has six in the last two seasons.

People who think this offense will fall apart without him are delusional.

There’s a reason the offense has been ass and lacks explosion since he’s become the X, pre-dating Canada and KP/MT.

It’s not a coincidence.

Ohs nos the offense that has blown for years with DJ around may still blow without him!

But they could… keep him and still blow on offense though!

And keep a problem child around that attacks teammates and coaches.

What could go wrong?

Only 1 of them came without Dj in the lineup and 2 came with mason at Qb to end the season. It’s tough to get yards when the Qb only 300 yard game in 16 starts was in a blow out against Buffalo as a rookie and as 1 game with 275 since then

No idea what you are even talking about, but try to pay attention.

GP has six 100 yard games in the last two years.

Same QBs.

Same offense.

Even when MR came in for the last 4 games DJ didn’t have a 100 yard game.

Please find me another #1 WR (lol) that has gone 36 games without a 100 yard game.

We are talking Dec 12, 2021 the last time this dude put up 100 yards.

Basically went an entire season without a TD and during that time was in the middle of this likely unprecedented streak of not breaking 100 yards.

What other #1 has ever “accomplished” something this ridiculous?

I got idly curious.

Johnson has 5 100 yard games in his entire career,

It's not a be all end all stat. I'm not saying the offence can just cut him and expect things to go fine.

But how many of us really think that, given the way he is used by the Steelers, he is a player to hold on to hard?

If you restructure the contract in such a way that it would cost the same amount to keep him as cut him, I guess I wouldn't say no.

Right now cutting him and replacing him with a vet minimum player would cost, what, about 2.8m? 2.9m? He's got a signing bonus so there's some dead money.

An extra million on top of that wouldn't be a big deal to me. More than that and I'd rather they just cut him entirely.

Yeah somewhere around there. I believe he waived his roster bonus in the trade from LA, so there isn't a real deadline to have to get this done by.

Ok, let's hear everyone's preferred order of positions for each of the first four picks and why.
Example-
Rd. 1- RT- too expensive in ufa, moves Jones back to his natural position, solidifies line, blah blah blah.
Feel free to be player specific.

If you have crappy Qb play your skill position players will suffer TJ has more sacks than we has td passes. DJ with a real qb is scary

If LeVeon Bell truly wants to come back to the Steelers then he should call out Antonio Brown for one of those charity boxing matches and shut him the hell up.

1- RT- see above
2- (acquired DJ trade)- CB
2- (own pick)- C- Frazier?- hopefully RT is plug and play, Jones back to LT. Smith's OL is stabilized
3- WR- LSU guy falls after I start spreading viscous, nasty interwebz rumors. Did you see that 40? At that size? Lol.
4- DL

People forget that the last two years with Ben, DJ had seasons of:

88/923/7
107/1161/8

It's odd that people love to make excuses for Pickett and others based upon the OC and players around him, but despite the fact the Steelers have had garbage QB play and a joke OC the last 2 years, DJ is not given any slack as a result.

Once again, GP, who gets way less targets, has more 100 yard games in only two years (6) than DJ has in his entire career (5)!

In fact, GP, in the same offense with the same damn QBs, put up five 100 yard games just this past season.

So GP already has as many 100 yard games this past season as DJ has in his career.

GP has had the same QBs throwing him the ball as DJ, with less targets.

But keep bending the logic that it’s the QBs fault DJ is the only #1 WR to likely ever go 36 games without posting 100 yards.

So the guy you are white knighting for:

- went an entire season without a TD
- has a current streak of 36 games without 100 yard game
- quit on his team
- assaulted his Qb
- went after a coach and had to be carried away by B Jones
- was confronted by a team leader and the argument got so heated Watt and CH had to pull them apart
- constantly pouts on the sideline like a child

This is the guy you think this team needs to keep to be winners again?

The f***?

I'd like two offensive linemen with our first two picks, barring someone drops that we can't pass up.

There's so many holes to fill. Where to begin? If they can grab 2 starters of ILB/CB/C in ufa, would be a huge help.

I agree with this. I think you take the BPA's at OT, C, DL, CB, and ILB in the first 3 rounds. Maybe a S as well. And if you trade Johnson, obviously you also need a WR.

Omar, moar picks!
I think Jeremiah had like 8 OT and 6 or 7 CB in his top 50. And a bunch of WR.
Might be a good year to trade back?

Pretty much impossible to say without seeing what they do in free agency. I think safety and middle linebacker will be pretty easy to find a starter in free agency. And I would expect them to also fill one of CB/T/C in free agency as well.

All in all they have a lot of needs to fill but its certainly doable. And I also will say there isn’t a single team in the league that won’t start the season with a position or two or three that they wouldn’t like to upgrade

This is true, but the Steelers have 4 or 5 positions they don't just need an upgrade - they don't have a playable option if they are trying to be competitive - one of the CB spots, one of the ILB spots, LT, C, one of the S spots, and one of the WR spots if Johnson is traded - and that doesn't even address needed bodies on the DL and the QB position.

I think we’ll add one ILB and probably at least another CB in FA (depending on what we do with Pat Peterson). It’s just so much easier to sign a plug and play veteran LB that you know will fit your scheme. Obligatory Jerome Baker mention.

Also Florio getting shit on by players directly never gets old:
