Yeah IDK what that graphic was talking about then.

I've seen people with first round grades on Alt, Fashanu, Fuaga, Latham, Mims, Guyton, Fautanu, and Morgan. That's 8 not even counting JPJ and the Duke C Barton. Some of those guys probably fall though.

I've seen Frazier sneak in at the end at least once too.

The question is - who's going to make them fall? 5 QBs, maybe 6, tops. That's a lot, but that's only 5 out of 32 spots in the first round.

DL looks like only a couple. CB is strong but it feels like I only see the same 5 names or so mentioned. No star ILB or safety. Only Bowers from TE/RB. Dunno how many Edge Rushers are projected to go but it feels maybe a tad less than usual.

And it's a rich class for WRs but how rich? Particularly with talent cascading down?

I think it's going to be a lot.

That’s gotta be one of the worst trades in NFL history. And they doubled down by trading for Payton to try to salvage it.

If there's one thing I've learnt over the last couple of years, it's that guys just don't know how to evaluate QBs in this league.

Alternatively, they do but the paucity of talent available and the impact it makes means they go and do very stupid things in the faint hope that things go their way.

If I had to guess (or hope) it would be that one of the Centers- JPJ, Barton or Frazier that falls out of the first. Just based on positional value and how many stud tackles this class seems to have.

Probably.

Problem is I don't feel comfortable with the idea that player would fall all the way to the Steelers. Frazier seems the lowest rated of them but I think teams will say this is a very ready, very solid player with a special mentality and they'll get him by the 40s latest. The draft that had him in the 1st round had him mocked to Detroit because he's just the sort of culture player they went hard for last year. That was Jeremiah's iirc so not some madman's ravings.

See what Khan does but I don't envy him balancing the positions against each other here.

Why not take a gamble on Russ? League minimum. Better than no balls and small hands - can you believe Russ’s hands are like 2” bigger than Pickett’s? LMAO.

The guy is coming off of a 26 and 6 season Kp might get to 26 in by year 5

If we're gonna pay attention to the troll, can we at least just report him to the mods and ask them to remove the non-Steelers fan from the Steelers thread?

I saw Kurt Warner say recently that trying to scout QBs and predict how a QB will translate is virtually impossible with what the college game is becoming.

It doesn’t really answer why teams still seem to struggle to evaluate QBs that are in the NFL but I think it’s partially desperation due to scarcity like you mentioned mixed with a little bit of arrogance.

Whenever I see the QB carousel, I always think of that one Arrested Development quote that’s like “Does it ever work for those people? No…but maybe it’ll work for us.”

*looks it up* Hmm, interesting what he's saying about the lack of concepts crossing over.

I've got to say that for me, the big thing is so much of its mental. So so much of it. I think pretty much every dude considered for the NFL can carve up an NFL defence on days where there's not much pressure happening. What separates the best from the rest is how much pressure can be brought before it goes wrong. Sure having the athleticism to outrun a linebacker or deliver a 20 yard dart off-balance matters... but not as much as just being able to keep a level head and keep everyone believing day in day out when everyone's either treating you like god or crucifying you (god or god, I guess). Nevermind all the processing stuff on the pitch, all that stuff is so so crucial. It's a big part of why Russell Wilson isn't in Seattle or Denver. I kinda wonder if it's part of Watson's problems in Cleveland too, to pick the other great QB mistake of recent times.

It's part of why I keep looking at JJ McCarthy as the guy I'm most intrigued by in this draft (not that he's going to be a Steeler). Williams, Maye, Daniels - they all want to be the hero. How are they going to cope with the lengthy stretches of "just don't screw this up"? We know McCarthy doesn't mind putting the game in someone's hands, and can then take it back to make crucial plays if needed. That's big to me.

I’m a Steelers fan. Most real Steelers fans are anti-Pickett because him being on the team is a detriment to their success, and thus want him gone. Make sense?

AB made fun of Pickett recently by showing a clip of someone missing awfully in a bowling alley, and he’s a dolt. But this is hilarious from Tim Benz:

“What a cheap, low blow by Antonio Brown. Completely unnecessary. I mean, it’s not nice to make fun of that kid. What if his hands are just too small for the bowling ball?”

Whammy!

What I will say about Pickett going into this season, as opposed to last - I can’t wait until the first home game, first offensive series. They’ll go 3 and out. Pickett will badly misfire on a pass, and roll into trouble/possibly get sacked. Everyone will rain down boos. Chants of “Mayyyy-son, Mayyyy-son!”. Diontae and Pickens will be mad. He will have lost both the fanbase and his teammates again, right away. What would be fitting is if he ended up having a ”good” preseason though, because no one really tries/goes half speed and he wouldn’t need to do much.

Yea and I thought I'd be super excited to watch EK65 play for the Pens. Then the HC got ahold of him

Yup. He and Clayton felt like the last of the 2 real journalists left at ESPN.
He was a major part of my childhood.

Clayton, Buccigrossi, Bob McKenzie, Mort, Rich Eisen, and Stewart Scott defined a generation for me.

For all of the QB talk, I think we all know that they're just going to sign Tannehill to be Pickett's backup
They are riding with Kenny Pickett. I don't even think it's worth talking about a QB. That is their intention and I can't see them wavering from it. They will bring him in support, but the guy that signs will know that they are #2.

I don't disagree with the organization. I guess it just depends where on the Kenny Sucks meter you fall on.

This may be a phenomenal draft to back up in. There very well could be runs on players, and we may be able to get a great RT in the late 1st/early 2nd. I cannot possible see all of these tackles getting selected in the first round even if they have first round grades on them.

They’re basically guaranteed one of the tackles, one of the top three corners (Arnold, Mitchell, Dejean), or JPJ. Unless something crazy happens I don’t think I’ll be irritated by any direction they go in the first.

Anyone else they will bring in is a band-aid and a ride to more mediocrity.

I’ve seen that movie before and have no interest in that depressing, hopeless hamster wheel.

Just ride out the KP train for one more year and move the f*** on if he struggles away from Canada. That obvious shitty variable should have been removed going into last season, but here we are.

If things don’t work out with KP, hopefully Kahn is aggressive getting the next guy via the draft.

Backup and grab a C/T with their first two picks.

Use the extra pick for moving down and their third to jump into the second and grab a WR to replace the diva.

They have 121 from Rams also.

Have to check value but they have 84, 120 and 121… could package a couple together to get into bottom half of the second again.

I wouldn't sleep on them taking Byron Murphy. At 20, he'd be an incredible value and more than likely the best on the board.

I also wouldn't be against trading out 1st next year to get back to the top of the 2nd round this year if a RT drops.

This may be stretching it a bit, but I feel like this would add to the DJ smoke. Not that Robinson is very good anymore but would they really need DJ/Pickens/Robinson/Austin/Draft pick with how the offense is likely going to be set up?

Can’t see the Chiefs giving up their first… unless the Steelers throw a pick in the deal.

Think his value is a low second, and the Steelers would jump on that I’d imagine.

Diva DJ is gonna be a problem child if he comes back, so I’d even be happy with a third just to be rid of him and extract some value.

Can’t even begin to imagine the hissy fits and teammates he will throw down with if the offense goes south during his contract year.

He was pretty bad and had like 8 ypc.

Not sure why they would want him back, but who knows with this org.

They would have to package 84, 120 and 121 to get Pick 64, last pick in the second round.

Just using say 84 and 120 will get them up about 10-12 spots in the 3rd. So to say pick 74. If they throw in a 6th, that should get them to the top 5-6 picks in the 3rd round. Say pick 69.
