Guessing it wasn't a good day in NZ after what happened to the All Blacks in the RWC.
Haha. I can’t say I’m surprised they lost. As opposed to the 2010s where we were hands down the best team in the world for a decade, we aren’t now. Now if the ABs don’t make at least the semis, there will be an uproar. Not being the best is Ok. Outside the top 4, unacceptable for a rugby-mad nation.

Add to that the Warriors (different type of rugby) and Izzy lost too and it hasn’t been a great weekend for NZ sports.
Support South Sydney but it's harder to follow as NRL is mostly on a channel that I don't get that costs $15 extra a month. Thrilled that my AFL side Carlton finally got back into the finals and won a game for the first time in a decade.

AFL. That’s an even more niche interest! Nice. Seems like you have a theme of supporting teams that can’t make the playoffs?

Gotta love losing sleep because of someone else's poor decisions...

This is going to be a fun week. Friday can't get here quick enough as I am taking the day off since Nate has his alumni game Friday night and then it is Homecoming on Saturday. Lots of miles getting put on our cars this weekend and I could not care less about that.

Now if his newly strung heads would show up...

My daughter started grade 11 this week, and has a full schedule between that and other extra curricular activities. She’s in student council, dance, and on the volleyball team. In addition to that, I’ve been pulling strings in my city with people I know to try to get her a job. She ended up getting a call yesterday to go to an interview next week the next day after she applied. I have no idea how it will go, as she’s only ever had one job interview before (in a group of 20 during Walmart hiring day), but I told her to just be honest and herself in it. She’s worked before, but it’s just been small private stuff (dog walking, babysitting, dog babysitting). Fingers crossed that she gets the job, as she’s starting to get disheartened with being unable to find a job.
Our oldest son turned 21 last month. Graduated HS during COVID 2020 and we used the slowing of the world to have separate surgeries on both his feet (two screws and staple each foot). The only jobs he's had were house-sitting and pet-sitting for a few different work colleagues & friends when they were on vacations and/or overseas work assignments. We had encouraged him to get a job since his class load wasn't too demanding, and because he finished his 2-year degree (in 3 years).

We were away on vacation this summer and he surprised us by getting a job at Target unloading trucks from 4 AM-noon several days a week.

It will work out for your daughter. Someone who is responsible and shows up is the #1 requirement any employer seeks.

Spring has sprung here. I know it is probably counterintuitive to you guys, but it feels like hockey season is coming now.
That's a great view; I'm mildly jealous. I also learned over the weekend that NZ is the world's best for any grazing herd animals because the climate enables grasses to grow lushly with essentially minimal-to-no human assistance. I knew NZ was big on sheep and cattle, but I didn't realize how much so.

Nate had been down to one head with mesh that was barely holding on to start the fall season.

Today, two of his three brand new STX Eclipse IIIs came in the mail. I hope he likes them. These two are from his usual stringer and a third is from a different stringer as he tries out a new stringing job as someone on the coaching staff mentioned last year that they didn't really like his regular guy.

Here in my city, first jobs come about because of who you know. I coulda got her one with my employer, but we didn’t really work much this summer. And I really didn’t wanna subject her to having to go in 40 degree attics lol

The view is better IRL. The camera seems to place so much emphasis on the sky.

I’ll take your word for it on the sheep and cattle. My sister married into an old station family here, so I’ve spent a lot of time out on a big 2500 Hectare sheep and cattle station. I’ve never personally helped though, wouldn’t know where to start.

Yeah, that's not a fun job. I do any / all attic work in winter / early spring. My 1st wife ran a business and we stored some stuff in a very large stick-framed (not trussed) attic with a high ridge. She had an office/warehouse space too, but the attic was where we stored all her dozens of table cloths. I hung lines up there to dry them - cloths for 60" rounds and 6' and 8' rectangles which drape to floor length, so add another 60" total in width. 50+C Attic in summer heat in the Carolinas dried them quickly such that they only needed a touch-up iron pressing in the rarest circumstances.

That's a MASSIVE tract of land - about 10 square miles !!!!

Today sucked, had to get dressed up and wear shoes to go to court. My usual t-shirt, cargo shorts and sandals just not appropriate.

Today was judgement day for the fight a few months ago. We had 3 cases on the docket so only the lawyer made money. Case 1 was my girl versus the Australian lad. Now he paid 300k 9kUSD to leave town of which she got half, the boys in brown got the other half. So obviously the lad was a no show, case dropped with him receiving 5yr black list.

Case 2 Gus vs the Lad. Obviously a no show so he got another 5yrs black list.

Case 3 was the lad vs Gus. State lawyer pressed Case anyways so had to go through CCTV, eye witness accounts etc. Well ended up with Gus receiving warning so no lasting consequences

Today's high is supposed to only be 89. And we may get the first rain we've had in 2 or 3 months.

I'm so excited for this cold patch! :thumbu:

EDIT: NOOOOOOO.... they changed today's predicted high to 94 now! The cold front isn't expected to hit until Friday. And we'll be back into the low to mid 90s next week. :thumbd:

I was up before sunrise per usual today. At sunrise where I live there was a pinkish red glow to the sky. The old adage, "Red sky at night, sailors delight. Red sky in morning, sailors take warning." fully applied as we had a strong microburst for 15 min or so which soaked everything. Passed long before transit to work.

We had 1 or 2 nights end of August / Start of Sept. where the low dropped below 70F.
With the front moving in this coming weekend, we should have consecutive overnight lows in the 60sF for first time since early June. Looks like highs over 90F here won't happen for (at least) another week as well.

Next week is supposed to be the first time in a while where all the highs are predicted to be in the 90's. If it wasn't dog's mouth humid out, it would be nice this morning.

I was talking to a work colleague from Melbourne. He was amped about Carlton playing tonight. I mentioned how a member of the hockey board I’m part of was a NY Carlton fan and he was just like “how the f*** does that happen?”

So I ask you Mr Mike:

“how the f*** does that happen?”

:)

In the early 2000's they started showing AFL matches on the old Fox Sports World and Carlton was playing (iirc) North Melbourne and I decided to root for Carlton. Oddly enough they actually won, one of the few times that season they did.

We are giving home schooling a try. So far so good. My kid had these massive gaps and knowledge deficits that are being addressed. We thought about this a few years ago and didn't pull the trigger. We should have. Oh well.

We try to put those off so we’re not doing them in the summer. Even the jobs where we do nothing but blown in insulation, it still takes a day and a half of prep. It’s really only a problem when it’s an attic re-line than a brand new build though.

————

The girl I’m seeing, we’ve now entered the fun area where other people are trying to cause problems. I personally don’t care, because I know that they’re idiots, but she has a problem with it. She knows it’s silly to care, but she’s that type of person where she just can’t not care. She wants me to do something about it, but I can’t really do anything, as I’m not punching out a bunch of women lol

No formal promotion yet because they can't find a job description that makes sense and that I'm qualified for. Related: both of my coworkers are a hot mess right now and there's a non-zero chance one or both is fired or "encouraged to resign" tomorrow. So not only will I be director, eventually, but I'll have to build my own team because I'll be the only guy in the department.
