Teams go in and are able to put 100 percent of their focus on one guy. And it’s not those other two guys.
Donato has played a lot of minutes with Bedard (Bedard is actually Donato's most common linemate), you don't think the opposition is trying to shut him down when he's playing alongside Bedard?
Because in their 245 mins of 5v5 time together, these are their stat lines:
Donato 7g 12p
Bedard's 1g 4p
In his 207 mins with Teravainen
Teravainen 1g 5p
Bedard 2g 5p
184 mins with Hall:
Hall 3g 8p
Bedard 3g 7p
198 mins with Kurashev:
Kurashev 0g 2p
Bedard 1g 1p
342 mins with Bertuzzi:
Bertuzzi 4g 9p
Bedard 6g 13p
Of his 5 most common 5v5 linemates, Bertuzzi is the only guy he's outscored while playing together. These aren't elite offensive players by any means, Bedard should be the one creating the offense - he should be lapping them. These numbers are almost unbelievable.
And according to
All Skaters | HockeyStatCards.com, Bedard's QOC DEF isn't really all that much higher than that of Donato and Teravainen. And his QOT OFF is much higher than both of them. Plus he gets 55% offensive zone deployments vs 47% and 43% for Donato and TT respectively.
Bedard is just breaking into the league, plays on a horrible team, faces all the opposing focus and has zero help. It’s the worst possible scenario for a player to be in.
He gets zero help yet his most common linemates are consistently outscoring him when they play together at 5v5?
He gets zero help but somehow he's 4th on the team in ES scoring since mid December?
The list of excuses seems to keep growing..
- He has no help
- He's too young
- His coach sucks
- He gets tough matchups
- His GM sucks
Generational players don't need excuses.
People like to act like I am his biggest detractor, but the truth of the matter is that for as "critical" as I have been, I've
consistently overrated him (I expected him to finish around 38 goals 78 points last year, and projected 80-85+ points this year).
