I have to say that Internet and phone plans in most of Asia (not the Philippines) kick the crap out of Verizon, At&T etc. I swapped my phone plan with AIS today and splurged for the unlimited 5G which now costs me the princely $10 a month. Thought about upping my Internet as I could have jumped from 500 up and down to 1000 for an extra $20 but figured free for 500 was more than sufficient for streaming movies and sports
Just upgraded end of August from my iphone4 (December 2016) to an iphone12. Still costing me $5/month for the new phone. I used my old phone for nearly 7 years. Why isn't the new one free?

This is the most amazing wallet ever made.

Be careful: bills, debit/credit card, license, etc. only. No coins. They'll fall out the 5-hole.

I thought you were in Mongolia. Or is that another user I’m thinking of?

Nope that’d be me- I teach English, leads to me moving about if I like. Downside is I’ve yet to find a place I’d really like to stay, and having no career in the US at this point makes jumping back in rather difficult.

Theres plenty of people in the US that need to be taught English, plenty of schools have ESL programs, K-12 and College.

Oh definitely, but I’ve also definitely put out 50+ resumes in the US to absolute bupkis in response. Factor in cost of living, healthcare, etc., it’s really just not as good an option for me. Would rather try to settle in Thailand or Taiwan if things with this girl don’t work out.

Possible replies:
A. High-single-digit Millions of people have come to the USA in the past 3 years without pre-arranged employment, and without your personal requirement for immediate self-sufficiency. Surely there is room for 1 more. If only you weren't already a USA citizen...

B. Best wishes in your pursuits.

It’s my lived experience- obviously it’s possible in the US, plenty make it work, but for an English Lit BA it’s just a lot of hoops to jump through just to secure a roof over your head and an apartment. I paid $800 for a bedroom with 2 roomies at my last place in the US, and one of those roomies was a mentally unstable gun nut who drank too much. A $400 place overseas by myself is peachy after that. Like- don’t take it as a knock if you like the US, but also don’t think I haven’t tried to make it in my home country. You wanna cite the millions of successful immigrants (in that they aren’t homeless), I wanna cite average hours worked, savings, debt, quality of life, etc. Again, don’t take it as any slight if you feel differently and/or have found a way to keep up in this crazy country, but I’ve been over this a million times with myself and with family.

You can get a 1 bdr apartment with 5 star amenities ie true resort style pools, full gym, sauna, steam room etc for under $300 with free WiFi n cable. This is in a brand new condo with ground floor lazy river pool, and 42nd floor pool. Half of the doors on the various floors still have plastic on them and the furniture inside are still wrapped.

My young Aussie manager on a $900 a month budget just moved in here. He figures the $300 + $10 phone + $150 food for the month is easily sustainable as he parties at work on my dime

Big day today! I'm meeting with the nursing director about a raise. Whether or not they give me a raise will determine if I stay in this job for another decade. I <3 the job, but money talks, and I believe I'm worth more than I'm being paid.

My hope is to work in this job for another 10 years or so, then try to get into Urban Development, which has always interested me. I'll be 45 in 10 years, so I'll still have a solid 15-20 years left of work. Damn, I have a lot of working left in my life. Oyeee....

Yesterday was feed the multitude day, $110 got 15 whole chickens and 60 servings of sticky rice for the girls. I was too lazy to carry all that so had each of the bars send 2 girls to get their 3 chickens and 12 rice.

Here is what $289 gets you for a small 1bd 300sf condo

I have to get a new passport one of these days.

Not quite ready to live that Expat life though.

I think (hope) you mean 300 square meter. The video says 925 sq ft.

I saw the 300sf and thought "OMG he's living in a bedroom!" but that place is pretty amazing.

Maybe someday I'll get adventurous enough to move there. :)

So I went to work this morning, and the past few days we’ve worked there’s been the drywallers there, which never happens, as my job is the last step before that happens. I was out having a cigarette just before we started working, and the owner of that business asked me if I wanted a job. I can work my own hours at it, and do it in between my main job. Which was a surprise to me, and completely out of the blue. I asked him why he’s offering me one, and it’s because I actually work.

As for that girl I’ve been seeing, she decided to unload a bunch of stuff on me. Like some really heavy shit. It got to the point where she messaged me later on and said to not judge her. I told her I’m not, because I have no reason to. It caught her by surprise because she was expecting the exact opposite reaction. Weirdly, it made her pull back from me, but I haven’t bothered to ask her why.

My daughter started grade 11 this week, and has a full schedule between that and other extra curricular activities. She’s in student council, dance, and on the volleyball team. In addition to that, I’ve been pulling strings in my city with people I know to try to get her a job. She ended up getting a call yesterday to go to an interview next week the next day after she applied. I have no idea how it will go, as she’s only ever had one job interview before (in a group of 20 during Walmart hiring day), but I told her to just be honest and herself in it. She’s worked before, but it’s just been small private stuff (dog walking, babysitting, dog babysitting). Fingers crossed that she gets the job, as she’s starting to get disheartened with being unable to find a job.
