Value of: Foerster and Cates

Long term move. We get a young CENTER and acquire q 2nd order, potentially a center as well. I like Cates but move makes sense imo. We are not winning anytime soon

I know Torts does but does Briere also? I also vaguely remember some trade chatter around Cates but that could have been pure fabrication

Cates, to ME, is a 4C. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. But a chance to get a 2C or more? Imo you throw in Cates, I'm sorry. Nothing personal in personnel decisions like that

Briere falls under Tortorella in the Flyers' hierarchy. There's no chance Briere trades him without Tortorella's permission. Hell, I bet Briere needs his sign off to even trade Laughton.

I think there were reports that teams were interested in Cates a year or two ago, but he's definitely played very well recently and solidified himself as someone that the Flyers see as a core guy.

4c? Most good teams have a 20 pts guy as their 4c. Foerster-Cates-Brink line is clicking lately and thats not a 4th line.
Poehling is fine 4c.
But no 1c or 2c in sight.
Only a Konecny trade can get a young 1c back +
 
The flyers are VERY high on Forester. Good two way player with a scoring touch and young enough to be part of the rebuild. While not on the level of michkov he's got first line upside. Maybe he'd be available for a center with a similar profile but I don't know that teams are moving any.
Cates is a torts darling and his effort level and defensive game say it's for good reason. That being said he's at best a middle six guy and couturier is under contract forever with luchenko on the way. When the flyers acquire michkovs eventual middle man Cates immediately becomes movable

No they didn't... they did what they wanted to achieve..Frost is no more than a 3C and Farabee has been horrible since his surgery, They got out of Farabee's contract and Frost was coming up for one..I see they are really tearing it up there in Calgary but is that someone else's fault also? I was happy to see both gone so....

Sorry, but f*** no.

The only way they get traded is for a top line or top pair player. A more realistic trade with Foerster is Cozens + good prospect for Foerster

EDM offered a 1st for cates last summer. Unreported, so don’t go looking for an article. I know someone in flyers FO

Cates is a Danault. He won’t be traded.

That’s interesting you think otherwise. Basically all flyer fans and all media outlets say Calgary won by a fair margin. Are they going to sign a big free agent this summer? No, Jones and Briere already said that. So they traded away guys for cap space when they don’t need it and it’s about to go up anyway. They got back a 4th liner maybe and a free agent they need to flip in addition to a non 1st. It’s a total loss. There have been less pts traded for a 1st already.

Farabee's value was only worsening, and Frost is what he is. I didn't mind it.

Farabee has 1pt in 10 games with CGY. Frost has 3 in 10. These guys aren't developing players, this is who they are. They likely didn't want to re-sign frost at his cost (which is fair, he's not part of the future core) and getting Farabee's contract off the books without retaining was a good move.

I disagree with the "owned" statement. I had hoped that both Frost and Farabee (who I pushed for at the draft), would get it together after years here. Frost is just way too inconsistent and Joel really fell off the face of the earth for me. It was time to move on. Yes the other two look like keepers here. Cates just keeps getting better. A under rated player
