i think they have to sign boeser if they want to remain competitive but if there was ever a player to be skeptical about handing out a long term deal to it's gotta be boeser, right? we've all seen what happens when he loses a step

I think they'll average out his performance over his current contract and go from there, which seems fair. They're waiting to see how he does this year before they decide next steps.

I fear that his next deal is going to start with at least 8 and could be north of 9 if he looks on track to hit 40 again. Market for a RH 40 goal scorer who drives good two way results is going to be hot with the cap expected to jump again this summer. He might give a small discount to stay but probably not much. This is where the OEL buyout might hurt.

There the Shea Theodore deal is a perfect example of what I was talking about last page. Looks like a great cap hit, but that's because the contract gives him $27.6M in the first 3 years and $17.1M in the final 3. Had he gone to free agency to cash out, he probably could have gotten someone to give him the top end of the deal for the entire duration.

That's what a team friendly deal with Boeser will look like. If he's scoring close to 40 again he deserves to make $8-9M the next few seasons, but chances are slim he'll be worth that the duration of his contract.

Miller is obviously a lock, so maybe they take Boeser to capitalize on their chemistry?

Especially since Boeser is having a strong start to the season.

But honestly Team USA has so many good forwards that you could leave Boeser off and justify it pretty easily.

Not sure Miller is a lock. And do the Canucks really want him possibly getting hurt? That and he isn't really that young anymore, injuries take longer to heal even to recover from the extra games.

Two different positions, one player with a cup ring. No tax state.
The equivalent in Canada is more like a 8.75mil cap hit.
It doesn't matter when he gets paid it is the averaged cap hit.
Boeser playing at age 35yrs old?

Boeser is still slow and a complimentary player, he can't carry a line.
But as a trade asset he has increased his value over when no team would take him without sweeteners.

Boeser is off to a strong start. Just chance after chance last night, he was unlucky not to pot a couple of goals. Canucks management might want to inquire what his number is from his agent to see if it's something they feel comfortable with right now.

He was the best Canuck forward this season prior to getting concussed.

With him being back at practice (non-contact) it suggests to me that he could return to the lineup before the New Year.

I really hope that both he and the team approach this with an abundance of caution.

Concussions are no joke, brain injuries are no joke and Brock's long term health as an NHL player (and a person) are factors here.

With the Canucks missing Miller and Demko, and with it being a contract year, I do worry that Brock will want to return to the lineup as soon as possible, whereas I would feel more comfortable if he took a bit more conservative approach.

Either way, hoping that when he does come back, he's 100% recovered, healthy and is able to return to the level of play he was at prior to being concussed.
