The New York Rangers are a perfectly built team this year

Got to love how the Rangers have shown VID's hockey knowledge is really pretty bad...
Re-read my original post and let me know what exactly was outrageous in there ?

Gallant is a top coach in the NHL, check his winning record.

Shestyorkin is still playing extremely solid even though his numbers are worse in terms of SV%, but his record is 10-3-3.

Fox is still playing extremely well.

The main problem for the Rangers is their 5v5 play and their bottom 6 lack of production.

Yea, I didn’t expect Laf, Kravtsov, Kakko to be non factors, and guys like Blais, Goodrow not providing secondary scoring.

I still think the Rangers will become hot again like the Leafs did. There’s just too much talent.

I see a franchise with the most advantages in the sport, yet can't get out of their own way for the better part of their entire existence.
It's actually kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy. The Rangers have been a loser franchise for their entire history, and being in NY they're able to recruit guys to play there. But the only players they're able to get are also losers who prioritize living in NYC over winning a cup (nothing wrong with prioritizing other things in life btw, but those aren't the guys you'd prefer on your hockey team). So the cycle continues on and on.

It amazes me when Rangers fans act surprised that Laf and Kakko are still struggling to score. The pace they scored at in the playoffs was very mediocre and the media hyped up the kid line for no reason. I don't know why you expected they'd suddenly be major contributors this year

Totally agree, when a player's top and clear priority is simply living in NYC, maybe that player isn't the best signing.

They have also typically signed guys who are older and seemingly just looking for one final payday too. Then they coast and give low effort.

rangers have all the talent in the world and all the advantages. Being the hunted does take some time to get used too. I do believe they will go on a serious run and will make the playoffs pretty easily. Cream typically rises. Considering they seem to have a durable bunch as injuries seem to not be a factor for a few years, the talent should overcome early season adversity.
You are a funny guy /girl . Made me have a good laugh reading this . Thank you

So … they are fine except for 5 on 5 play ( which is about 90%+ of the game , and 1/2 their forwards are useless … that doesn’t really sound encouraging to me .

Like last year they really struggle at 5on5.

It’s hard to keep winning like that

I don’t think that’s true with this roster. It’s not an effort issue. They are just similar to most good teams in the cap era. Top heavy without enough secondary scoring. Last year Shesterkin’s amazing season masked a lot of warts. His merely being good this year so far exposes those warts to the sunshine.

Anyway, Rangers are a solid team with tons of talent. I’ll be absolutely shocked if they aren’t a playoff team. Dog-piling on them right now seems a bit premature.

It's tough in N.Y right now.
1. Rangers are bad
2. Subway is about as safe as Fallujah
3. Violent Crime % through the stratosphere
4. Giants/Jets hope from a month ago is gone
5. Tons of people leaving
6. Garbage piles everywhere in the city with a rat infestation like most have never seen

Just not a lot of hope when 3-0 leads vanish in 14 minutes on a "Vezina" goalie with a "perfectly created roster".
Tell me you didn't live in NY in the 80's and early 90's without telling me you didn't live in NY in the 80's and early 90's...

I see somebody's been watching the news.

Just as one example, #5 is demonstrably untrue.

New York's population skyrocketed in 2022.

Everything came together perfectly for them last year. If they want to be a perennial contender they really need Kakko and Lafreniere to break out. Otherwise it's a failed rebuild imo.

I was talking the city (NYC) which unfortunately is very true. -300,000 in the city in 2021, which really hurts our family fabric business. Per the non-partisan census bureau. There are currently no official numbers for 2022 yet, as we have a little less than 40 days to go. Anecdotally though, it doesn't feel very good right now. We paid for some local polling data through the Chamber of Commerce to try and get an idea and jump on whether traffic picking up, hiring or unloading staff in the next 6 months is prudent......one of the polls for our area said that a whopping 40% planned to leave in the next year because of rent/taxes/prices. It really hurts right now to be honest.

So was I.

The exodus is made up.

It's already a failed rebuild. We have little to nothing to show for trading away: McDonagh, Zuccarello, Miller, Hayes and Stepan.

Those players alone should have brought in enough future capital to build a future Cup contender.

It's not hard to look this up. NYC has been below the historical growth curve for 4 consecutive years. New York City Metro Area Population 1950-2022
I agree it's not hard.

This data literally shows the population is increasing lol.

New York City, New York Population 2022

All of the data shows that. Because the city's population is going up.

See 1970-1980? That's what people are saying is happening now and it's a fairy tale.

It's below the historical growth curve because the entire world is in the middle of an unprecedented birth shortage which is also, as you astutely put, not hard to look up.
