I don't remember or can't remember a GM who took on all these high end potential talent only to make a complete mess of it

Maybe Milbury ?

You go from so many young and up coming players like Brown, Hyman, Kapanen, AJ, Nylander, Marner, Matthews, kadri, Riley(4 years ago he was young to fckukgn it up

He's making JFJ look like a superstar.

For context remember that dubas walked into a very favourable position any GM would kill for. Team on the rise, HoF coach behind the bench and plenty of cap space.

if you use context you can see that he is probably already top 3 worst GMs of all time in all of sports

I guess all the posters who crucified me when I said that when Dubas was hired he would turn out to be one of the worst GMs in Maple Leaf history have disappeared. Figuring this stuff out ain't brain surgery. All you gotta do is start at the top. Every guy on the MLSE board is part of the good old boys club. They have lived a sheltered and privileged life but know nothing of the real world. Rogers is one third owner and we know how well that 5 billion dollar investment in hockey has worked for them. All of this looks real good on all of them.

Kyle biggest downfall was the statement when he was a new general manager . Negotiations are nasty and I don’t want to do that to my peeps . Lmao does he think the players don’t watch TV I wish I could find a video

I agree I think shooting off his "we can and we will" mouth really boxed him into a corner. Any agent knew they could grind him down a little extra.

McDavid signed for 12.5m and Tavares 11m at the same time. What was he thinking?

What was he thinking?

If you have no brain, you can't think. Definitely one of the dumbest guys I've ever heard or seen. But remember, as far as the MLSE board is concerned, he looks good in a suit and talks respectively to his elders. As far as they're concerned that's all that matters. Who cares if the team sucks?

The worst thing Dubas did was sign JT. Excellent player. Nice pajamas. But not what was needed. They've been handcuffed to the cap ever since. Losing high draft picks. Bad move.

Thats 100% correct. Also mix in that Tavares was paid to the max of what he is @ 11 million. That set the table for the others to get the max of what they are....Matthews was in no way going to take less, Nylander, Marner also got the max for what they are. Tavares is the worst contract on the team.

Dubas destroyed what looked like a guaranteed Cup win when Matthews was drafted, the pipeline had Marner, Nylander, Brown, Hyman, Kadri, Kapanen, all on deck. Now the team is in no mans land, not a cup contender, not a bottom 5 team. The team is a mess and no cap space.....

What does understanding 'real life', as you define it, have to do with anything?

I got attacked so many time in the past for pointing out same thing. I wonder were they are now

Maybe the Oilers? They still got a chance to right the ship though. This might even be their year. I think you can stick a fork in team Dubas.

Then they might really understand what their employees are thinking and feeling. I haven't had one boss that had any clue what was going on. 4 of the 5 places I worked for either went broke or went through massive layoffs and are barely surviving. No exec is ever going to hire someone who thinks differently or better than him. He protects his rear end by hiring incompetents. Over time the business whatever it may be cannot survive because the guy who is in charge is a total moron. Enter the MLSE board.

I still think Dubas is probably better than whoever MLSE would replace him with.

But I'll never get the Jared McCann thing. Another point tonight. It's insane to me they prioritized our depth over him.

Maybe Milbury ?

Milbury had a whacky owner, and being in a small market, they were always cost cutting. Those were the days before the salary cap, and minimum league wide salary floors.

Shanahan and Dubas, they did whatever they wanted.

Only their ideas and the salary cap were the constraints.

If this goes full 18-wheeler on us ala Brain Burke style, this will go down in sports history as one of the most complete butchering of a good team with potential.

These last two games, potential is not this team.
