Everything in baseball is driven by statistics. Everything in hockey is based on heart, desire and teamwork.

I think baseball is different since its situation is based on an individual. Batter vs pitcher. 1 vs 1.

In hockey there is so much going on. It’s not as simple as 1 vs 1. You need to use teammates to help you. This is why advanced stats don’t translate over like baseball.

I still think Dubas is probably better than whoever MLSE would replace him with.

But I'll never get the Jared McCann thing. Another point tonight. It's insane to me they prioritized our depth over him.

yup I’m pretty sure I had a lot of people block me because I thought the move was wrong. Voice an opinion here that is anti Dubas and you’re considered stupid and a hater.

Dubas is in over his head and never should have been handed the keys to the kingdom. The fact that this organization has pissed away one of the greatest 1st overall picks any team could dream of, is beyond any words. This situation is turning into one worse than Edmonton by the minute. I expected failure but I got disaster. RIP Leafs being half ass, we hardly knew you but we will miss you.

Leafs realizing they are the same team as last year.

Why wait for the season to end
I’m guessing they’ll give him the year to see if the playoffs are any different. When we inevitably lose (or don’t even make it) they’ll fire him and the re-tool can begin

I honestly like Dubas, I think he did some good stuff in Toronto (particularly the D-core retool). But, he tied himself to the core, and that core has failed miserably. For that he loses his job

That’s funny.

But funnier, watch what happens if you even suggest they have a decision to make with 34 within the next 2 years.

Matthews is definitely gone and honestly I could not care less. This whole core is rotten to the core. I don’t enjoy watching them because games like last night aren’t too far around any corner even after dominating games.

I have more fond memories of the shitty teams Burke built. At least you knew they were in tough to make the playoffs. You knew they had no real shot to win against Boston but still managed to take them to 7 games.

This team acts like a contender but we all know when the time comes they will choke against anyone and everyone in this league.

I want a fresh start. This year should be the core’s last year together. Just keep Nylander around. He seems to be the only one really trying most nights. Oh and I can’t forget Spezza. Give him 10M if he wants while we rebuild as he’s got more integrity than the rest of the superstars combined.

Dubas pulled a Burke which is to say he f***ed himself right from the get go by making a terminal mistake which had long term consequences and doomed his tenure to failure .

Burke traded two firsts when he should have been rebuilding and had to try to race against time to do a reverse draft rebuild before he was turfed .

Dubas blew his cap brains out by signing JT when we didn't need a C and left himself without adequate cap space to fill the roster with quality pieces around an extremely promising young core .

it's truly remarkable how incompetent Dubas is by f***ing the situation he walked into

This is absolutely the case. An even better example is cricket where you can change the "pitcher" (called a bowler) based on the the batsman at the crease. There are tons of stats on ok I've got a left handed batsman let me put out a slow left handed bowler because he struggles against them with stats.

The other 9 batsmen sitting on the bench have no impact.

Hockey is totally different where you have 5 opposing team players on the ice and an unlimited amount of possibilities.

The most bizarre thing is there is nothing wrong with getting a guy like Tavares at the right time.

He's the LAST guy in the core thst should be signed if you're making it to the conference finals and you're trying to put your team over the edge and they needed a little more offense. Lol instead dubas the genius signs him first to a massive contract with no idea how things could play out

Dubas is more stubborn than Burke and Babcock combined. And that's one of his biggest weaknesses

your right , timing is everything as well as filling a need

the worst part is he's left the next GM a shit show to deal with and it'll take a small miracle to turn this team into a serious cup contender

i don't know if it's being stubborn as much as it is he's backed himself into a corner and doesn't know how to get out and that's why he keeps going on and on about believing in the core like that's some excuse for his failure

Reactions: All Mod Cons
My issue with Dubas is a bit of an issue I have with the larger society: discarding the wisdom of old(er) people. Dubas was shadowing Lou. Yeah, Dubas said all the right things about how much he learned and stuff, but what did he do immediately after Lou left? Pretty much the opposite of everything he was taught. I'm exaggerating a bit, but he definitely did not follow Lou's protocol. Also, I'm not a fan of Babs, but Dubas went against him too and got players that Babs didn't want. Now Dubas is learning the hard way,

In other countries people respect the wisdom that comes with living on the planet for a long time. Not here.

I'm starting to warm up to the idea of naming Justin Bieber President/GM. At least then we'd keep Matthews.

How warm is Matthews to the idea of sticking around?

Does he seem like the kind of guy who says “follow me boys, we are going to turn this around and the Cup is ours?”

Another big Dubas failure that no one talks about is his failure to bring up a promising young goaltending prospect. The amount of good young goaltenders we’ve passed on in the draft in recent years is astounding. It’s such a joke that Hutchinson is in our line up right now
