Auston Matthews home

Auston Matthews is at his offseason base too, but his is a 7,500-square-foot home at the foot of Camelback Mountain in Arizona. One of ice hockey's brightest stars finds his sanctuary amid cactuses and tumbleweeds.

Matthews was born in San Ramon, California, U.S. and spends his summer close to home playing by his pool.

Auston Matthews enjoys a lavish lifestyle in his Scottsdale home with his family.

Auston further showed off his lavish mansion via his Instagram post. The video of him dunking himself and a ball showcased his modern swimming pool.

The $3.2 million Scottsdale home undoubtedly speaks volumes for his increasing net worth.

All NHL contracts are in US dollars..

However here is the scary part when you use the Ontario Income tax calculator.

When you insert the gross earnings in CDN$ after conversion.,

Estimated taxes owed $7,525,893

PS. Excludes RRSP and other tax deductible earnings.,

An $11 mil US salary with a 1.28 tax exchange rate = $6.6 mil CD$ after tax take home income using the Ontario Federal and Provincial income tax charts from tax year 2021.

This is the chalenge Canadian based teams face keeping their stars north of the USA border, particularly those American born players.

ok this scares me a little

The only thing I took away from this post is Andersen is HUGE.

I really think if Arizona was positioned better, there may be some issues, but I think Matthews will be leaving a lot of money and fame on the table if he leaves, so I highly doubt he leaves, not to mention I think he has some close ties to some players here and he is also playing in what I am sure is a fun system.

Arizona will likely still be playing in a 5000 person college arena when Matthews is a free agent. Doesn't exactly seem like it's going to satisfy what Matthews is used to.

I do think LA is probably one of the more likely locations that he'd end up if he chooses to leave the Leafs.

Though I'm not sure it'll be more lucrative in terms of endorsements. He'll be picking up the scraps there from what the stars of the more popular Lakers/Rams/Dodgers leave for him

This is what I found in regards to current endorsements.

Auston Matthews Net Worth: Contract & Career
June 19, 2022

Earnings From Endorsement

Besides being one of the highest-paid NHL players, Auston Matthews also makes $2.3 million off endorsement deals.

Moreover, Matthews has collaborated with high-end brands like Apple. Likewise, his popularity with fans allowed him to become a top jersey seller in 2018.

Thus, Auston Matthews‘ total earnings were expected to hit 18.2 million from his salary, bonuses, and endorsements.

Similarly, the ice hockey player Matthews also signed a partnership deal with CCM Hockey.

Hence, sponsored by one of the best companies he admired, Auston seemed excited to work with them and vice versa.

I believe there is a reasonable chance he leaves, but it won't be for Arizona.

I don't know what the current cap projections are and given the last couple of years wouldn't hazard to etch any estimates in stone. That said, when the 2024-2025 season rolls around, it would seem both Muzzin and Brodie come off the books. Matthews and Nylander (if one or both hasn't been traded by then) also come off the books.

I wonder if management's using a simple calculation. If the cap rises to approximately $86M (accounting for an increase of a million a year) and Matthews is given a raise that equates to 15% of the cap, he comes in around $13M. If Nylander is given a raise up to 9% of the cap, he comes in at about 7.8M and let's round to $8M.

A year later, Tavares' $11M comes off the books. So...I mention Brodie and Muzzin as sort of bookends of insurance. Note, Murray's into UFA territory as well.

We patch one more year with Tavares and by that time, our (hopeful) promising prospects like Niemela and Knies are in their second or third ELC years.

Am I looking at this incorrectly, or will we have a 28 year old Nylander, a 27 year.old Marner, and a 26 year old Matthews to start the 2024-2025 season with a lot more to spend moving forward than we might have thought otherwise?

Obviously some sound spending has to take place until then, but...Perhaps we're in better shape than we realize?

Better math minds, by all means, please chime in.
Problem is Matthews don't wanna play in Canada anymore especially when. He never played a game in rd 2.

Arizona will likely still be playing in a 5000 person college arena when Matthews is a free agent. Doesn't exactly seem like it's going to satisfy what Matthews is used to.
But will also be playing any brand new state of the arena the next season in his hometown

What would his commute be like for practice and home games?

Now we don't know what Matthews plans are and all of Leaf Nation is holding their collective breaths in hopes he stays ..however just to play this out as WHAT IF using the evidence

He certainly appears to have set up home base in Scottsdale Arizona with his $3.2 mil mansion, where he lives in luxury in the off-season, close to friends and family where he grew up.

Coyotes set to offer Auston Matthews the richest contract in NHL history

Although Phoenix and Scottsdale share a border that's more than 10 miles long, their downtowns are about 12 miles apart – a drive of 20-30 minutes.

24 min (12.2 mi) via Loop W from Scottsdale to Phoenix to Tempe.

So to answer to your question it would be about a 20-30 minute commute to work once the new Arena is built if playing for his favourite and home team growing up.

On July 1st, 2025 Auston Matthews signs a team friendly 7 year deal with the Phoenix Coyotes and fulfills his childhood dream.

Everyone has missed this going on about Cap Hell, but Leafs are set-up really nice to have 50+ in cap available within 2 years. i think They keep Matthews, Marner and Nylander.

That arena isn't approved. You seem to be stating why Arizona is the best fit without metioning no money, 31st place team, and no arena approved. Just nice computer generated images of what an arena could look like.

Do you think he wants his legacy to be remembered as a great player that could never win when it counts...he knows the organizations history and has been there long enough now to see first hand that the ownership/management are incompetent and will never surround him with the pieces to succeed...I mean let's get real people forget about winning a cup this franchise can't even win a round that's embarrassing and shows their incompetence... Their best move would to trade him right now but he is at his highest level value wise but they are so dumb up there in Toronto they will let him walk for nothing there is no possible way he resigns in Toronto it's not about the money he 100% for sure we'll be playing in the states when his contract expires in Toronto and who could blame him?

So he'll leave and go to the Coyotes because the 115 point team that he's never missed the playoffs with is incompetent.
Not Coyotes? I see Stars, Vegas, Ducks mentioned. uh, ok....Those teams know what they are doing?

At best it's ready in 2026. That's at best. It's not approved. Not a single shovel will be in the ground for a long time even if they get it approved.

No, I don't even think he is going to play in Arizona.

I hope he is a Leaf for Life and is one of the best of all time. The Leafs are going to do everything in their power to keep him financially and cut him a blank cheque.. I think this is a big year however because I think having playoff success will help the Leafs case also sell him on staying.

I'm curious if there is some income tax benefit to being and American citizen and setting up Arizona as his home base in the offseason, and only working in a foreign country?

Hopefully there is some tax advantage that benefits him in staying.

You can't mention the Coyotes without mentioning what a hilariously inept situation they have found themselves in. I've never seen anything like it in NHL, and maybe sports history.

Does anyone think Tavares even meets with the Leafs, let alone signs with them in 2018 if they were in the same situation the Coyotes are in right now? People really overrate "Going Home". Leafs gave JT 15.2 million in CASH the day he signed, he had more corporate sponsorships set up, the team had 105 points and a top young core of Matthews, marner, nylander all 21 and 22. Also, marlies won the calder cup 2 weeks earlier.

Coyotes are broke and play in a 5k University arena...

I never said he will be going to the coyotes he will leave for a team in the states probably a big market team like the rangers Red wings etc it's funny you bring up 115 points who cares if there were 82 and 0 they never win in the first round that's my point they don't have the players that are capable of winning when it counts this is why the same story happens to them every playoff season

Regular season actually does matter a lot. He's never missed the playoffs (He played 5 playoff games in 2020). I thin a big key is winning the Atlantic and having a fantastic regular season this year.

Matthews is currently 0-6 in playoff success, and getting frustrated, and so this is a big year when it comes to Leafs having and needing success as he will be heading into his final year.. Some players do chase Cups and Championships and the $$$ will be there from more than just the Leafs..

WHAT IF..

Leaf own situation could change, because lets say Leafs lose in round #1 again this year and finally management pays the price for failure and they decide to change GM and Coach,, This will send the Leafs into uncertain territory as new management would take the team in another direction and make changes all of which might impact Matthews decision.

The best case scenario would this is the year the Leafs go on a playoff run and then we hear Matthews re-signing long-term and saying " He wants to see this through and believes he can help bring a Cup to Toronto". Then he would have $$$ and success and fame with his fortune and really no good reason to leave other than being American and preferring to play in his own country.
