I didn't think he was that bad last night. He wasn't standing on his head, no, but I remember that Marner snipe and thinking he wasn't stopping that, or the Rielly shot, or the Robertson either. No goalie was. Mathews hit two posts. The team just can't suppress quality chances in front of him. Yeah you'd like him to not get faked out of his jock in the OT, but against one of the leagues elite offensive guys that will happen to best of goalies. The loss isn't really on him in my book- it was a team issue in that they just aren't good enough defensively this season.

Better goaltending probably has this team inside the playoff structure and not outside of it. Yes, the Bruins have been very Jekyll/Hyde all year long but Swayman is getting beat clean on shots that would be saves in prior years simply from better positioning.

Body language looks like he doesn't GAF
This. Really giving off an "I'm defeated" look

Yeah I have admittedly been extra critical of him this year and you are right

I don't know about the Reilly and Robertson goals, he has to stop those, he has the angle or he should have on both of those goals. Marners goals were just a thing of beauty both of them and hollberg was pretty much unstoppable, but he needs to make a save on at least one of those other two if not both, imo.

I think without question the leafs scouting report was glove side on Swayman. Although I honestly think he's better when he's playing a lot and the 4 nations non activity, I don't think helped, but he wasn't the only player coming off of a break.

That's a fair take and one I disagree with also . He certainly wasn't great last night and yes, you would have liked him to stop at least one of those that went in and it's probably reasonable to expect it from him, but at the same time, I don't call any of them soft goals. The bigger issue remains the shit show in front of him on most nights.

It's easy to do with the way the contract situation went down and the fact that is he looking like he is overpaid by a good bit. I think he can be and should be better than he is right now, but after the poor start, he's been solid. Just looking at the player and not the contract, he gives his team a chance to win most times he starts.

Lol
Stolarz came up with the big saves when needed and the 64 million dollar man didn't, I think was more of the problem than the shit show in front of him.

One thing we can agree on is that having a Leafs goalie outplay a Bruins goalie is unacceptable, especially given the history of the past decade or so.

Agreed, but I think this season has become such a wash,. What can go wrong will, its Unbelievably their still in the hunt.....Hope Freddy is OK, if not there goes some more lost assets.

I think people truly forget just how good Hasek was in dragging those Buffalo teams to the playoffs and eventually a SCF.

Regardless. I can’t escape the thought that one of the best to do it ever in Hasek has the same amount of Stanley Cups as Matt F’n Murray.

It took Hasek to go to a great Detroit team to finally get his two cups.

I say all that to say this. If the best in the world can’t drag a mediocre team to a SCF win, BUT, a great team can drag Matt F’n Murray to two SCs….. which is more important, the great goalie, or the great team?

I used Hasek for emphasis, rather than strict accuracy. In Swayman's case I think if he was playing his best this year's Bruins could make the playoffs, but not win a Cup. And since that's the only goal that matters, that was the point of my 'silver lining' argument. Nothing lost, really. So far......

Otherwise I think a great team trumps a great goalie. Look at it this way - great teams have won Cups with mediocre goalies, or ones who simply got pretty hot at the right time. Whereas an elite netminder can take an average team a long way, but it's very rare they'll get them over the final hurdle on their own. Ideally, you have both!

The Bruins traded a top shelf goaltender away to make room and gave Swayman elite goaltender money expecting they were locking up a young difference maker in net and so far he has not been. Not even close. Spare me this " the team sucks in front of him " excuse. #1 goaltenders don't just stop the easy saves. Swayman not performing to his capability is one of the main reasons why the Bruins are currently out of the playoffs and if they have any hope to make it, they're going to need him to get back into form.
