Damn that's a nice trade for Canes :handclap:

Adding Aho and Teräväinen, two very good puck movers and skaters basically for nothing. That's a pretty nice way to start offseason

This has to be a record-low number of Canadians on the Canes roster, no? Back end is like Team USA and front end is Team Finland/Sweden.

Hopefully they dont have lazy Euro syndrome like Semin. :sarcasm:

Agreed, I think the Chicago GM did fine considering his back was up against the wall. We're getting a relatively high-end prospect but those 2nds and 3rds lately have turned into guys like Aho, Rask, Pesce. It's not a rip-off by any means.

I agree Chicago did fine and this seems like a win-win. The one difference regarding what 2nds and 3rds have turned into in the past is that the Canes have a bunch of picks so they can still get their Aho, Rask and Pesce.

This year they have 2 1sts, 2 2nds (now 1) and 3 thirds. Next year, they have 1 first, 2 2nds (NYR) and 3 thirds (Canes, Hawks and NJ - so now 2). Yeah, I get the whole "more darts to throw at the board" stuff, but it was unlikely the Canes were going to take all those picks. At this point, looks like a reasonable deal for both sides.

I was just thinking this. I believe we currently only have 5 Canadian players on contract. 10 years ago that would've been unheard of.

Much prefer KO or Nielsen to Ladd or Ericcson

I'd love if we signed KO. Could you imagine him giving Ovechkin a pop-up powerbomb at center ice?

Oh...you didn't mean this KO, did you?

TT has elite IQ/passing, but he never really had the chance to use that with the Hawks, I hope he atleast gets a chance to run the powerplay and see what he can do, and play with players who can keep up with him(please be Aho).
It was frustrating to watch when he played with 4th liners.

+Q started to use TT as a penalty killer, so could we expect to see that continue in Carolina?

I hope this is a wake up call for TT also, and he'd realize he needs to add muscle, if he does that who knows how high his ceiling would be.

This trade is legit. We acquire two guys with Cup experience, one who is 21, still on his ELC, and is going to be given a chance to shine here. The other who can be a 4th liner for us and if it doesn't work out, it's only a year. We are on the cusp of having a potentially damn good team. I can already taste the potential success and it tastes delicious. No more hot dogs and hamburgers, soon we will be feasting on steak and lobster. Now, who is hungry?

I love the Chicago fans that are saying how TT really isn't all that good, man where's that crying Jordan meme the canes twitter used back in Dec? But really it looks right now like a win-win. I still don't get why other GMs deal with Francis, it seems like he curses any team he trades with.

He probably stalks the other GMs in their spare time and videotapes them dressed up like Britney Spears, dancing with a cardboard cut-out of Justin Timberlake.

Liking what the Canes are doing. I will follow the Canes more now. :)

I don't have a favourite team yet, just following Finnish players in the NHL.

The more, the merrier!

I know we had quite a few Finnish fans when we had Pitkanen/Jokinen/Ruutu on the team.

Natural reaction to the "OMG you got ripped off" overreaction crowd. This board is so funny, there can never be a measured, reasonable response to anything. It's either the best thing ever or the worst thing ever, you're the greatest or you're the worst, you ripped off or you got ripped off.

They've won 3 cups in 6 years, they had to make a choice between TT and Shaw. They chose to keep Shaw and make the tough trade. I don't see how there's anything shameful in that.

TT had a short off-season after his first NHL season. He is yet to bulk up etc.

That's a pretty silly statement to make about a 21 year old that just finished his first full NHL season. Seems like you're trying a little too hard to be a wet blanket/contrarian.

Contrary Mary, that's me.

We talked about TT a while back and I said the same things then. I watched him a lot in the playoffs with the thought of him coming our way. He had a tough playoff but like I've already said I think he's a positive addition and has plenty of room for growth.

Personally I've been groomed by this team to not expect more than one move like this. If all we do to add this off season is Bickell and TT than I wish we'd aimed a little higher for the "big" move, but I'd still be happy the move was made the way it was. We didn't give up anything big, and got a quality young player.

Also, I'm fine if all he is to become is a 35 pt player. My reaction before was that we didn't rob them, that this is a fair swap because it's very possible he doesn't get much better and that we gave up two decent picks for him, which makes the deal not lopsided the way people were stating immediately.

Honestly I haven't seen a lot from him yet to think there's truly a higher level. He helps us even if there isn't though.

I think we pretty much have to. Even with Bickell, TT and Aho, the Canes still only 11 forwards under contract and even after Rask's deal, have to spend a decent amount to get the the cap floor (if the players use the escalation clause, which I expect they will).

I'll be mildly surprised, and like you, a bit disappointed if we don't bring in at least 1 more quality top 9 forward.

That potential RNH trade looks a lot better now to me now, if we don't have to sell the farm.
