I’ve seen nothing to tell me that if we win the cup it won’t be a massive underdog Cinderella run with a spotting of miracles occurring

Eh, without talking about miracles I think one would.be hard pressed to argue that a cup was predictable for anyone by what was happening in February.

Playoffs are a different beast. Not a single hockey fan in the world would have guess the Jackets would have blanked the bolts (other than a truly delusional diehard Jackets fan may e). And it happened..

Panthers went almost missing the playoffs last season to cup finals.

And we hadn't seen that iteration of those teams in the playoffs before. We have ample history with this team showing success is very unlikely against almost any opponent.

If you're so negative about it all, why bother?

Exactly

My wishlist is not trading a first or Robertson for Tanev. Coincidentally, I think that’s the most likely thing to happen.

How about..

Leafs 1st, Robertson, Timmins, 3rd
For
Laughton and Walker

I don’t much about Walker but Laughton has one more goal than Robertson in 60 games. Why do we want to trade both him and our 1st for that package?

Would you move Cowan and a draft choice for Crosby and a dman. Is this team close enough to winning .
How about also Minten for Tanev. Would this push us over the top.
I know cap etc, but the issue is are we only 2 players away?

Personally, I think not so Don't waste your time and future.
YES

I’m convinced that some people just want to dump Robertson at a loss and the media seems to be fueling the odd man out narrative.

I admit I like the kid. He’s battled through a ton of setbacks and knows how to handle adversity. I admire people like that and it’s an invaluable skill in itself. Only 22 and we want to trade him for marginally better players with experience or to make room for Jarnkrok? Thats dumb

who expecting stl in 2019 or washington in 2018 ?

Florida -> coaching change
montreal -> Price and weird Canadian division
Dallas -> they were one of the cup favs that season btw....
Tampa -> vezina winner (Vasy), art ross winner (Kucherov), Norris winner (Hedman), Point -> up and coming star, committment to playing physical hockey

Throw in Blues for the same narrative:
Blues were down and out and all of a sudden there was a coaching change, Gloria song and they go on to win the cup

Caps:
Trotz changed the way they play, one of Trotz's quotes after the cup win:

"I told Ovi you play the way you wanna play when you have the puck; when you don't have the puck you play the way I tell you to play". Entire team bought in for the cup win.

its not as far fetched as some think. The goal is to give yourself the best chance in terms of roster make up and cap distribution

Go after Hanifin and hope Matthews can convince him to resign. They played on the NTDP team together not sure if they were buddies or not

Dude Leafs don't have much cap next season and both Matthews and Nylander new deals kick in while Tavares' 11 AAV still counts against the cap.

Leafs gotta plan this out with some foresight,.

if pittsburgh didn't chock in their lsst game, florida didn't play in playoff... thats the reality

montreal also beat a pretty good vegas team and the fact price was great or they playbin a favorable division that season change absolutly nothing...

Dallas they finished 10th overal and was playing with khudobin as starter.. we clewrly dont have same definition of favorite, sorry

stl was dead last in middle of regular season. just step up at the rigjt time... something every team can do !!!

it was 3rd season with trotz as head coach, good try but try again. 2- i dont know where it should be different than actual leafs? its the same thing with leafs core, if everyone start to play like they should, they could win it. it was not best club washington had but everyone step up at the right time and think was going well for them. The same thing can happen with leafs

There goes Tanev. Thank f*** we didn’t give up a first for him.

If it's true that Treliving stuck to his plan not to include a first for Tanev than I am happy to give him credit for that, smart non-move.

I like Tanev but I'm not sold at all on this group despite that very impressive run there. In the end, as much as a RD with his skillset is what this team really needs there's too many other question marks and issues that adding him likely wouldn't have made a difference come playoff time. Save the assets and make any real changes this summer.

Kick tires on Nick Seeler.

Torts has reiterated the Flyers are still in a rebuild and I think Walker is outside that model. Seeler would seem to tick a lot of boxes in terms need and the type of asset outlay we should be looking at engaging in; Definitely don't need to move our 1st, and we shouldn't, barring an exceptional circumstance.

I know a couple of members have mentioned Rutta, but what about Emberson? Emberson's much younger, his cap hit is league minimum (I think) and he's got the best +/- on the Sharks...which is saying something.

Just thinking aloud, but would Robertson yield both? Plus a pick?

Speaking of using Robertson the right way...Has anyone brought up going after Blake Coleman?

Honestly glad that the Tanev situation is now done with. Don't mind revisiting him in the offseason, but we are not in a position to be throwing away assets anymore. Seems like every year there's like a new shiny toy syndrome where people want us to acquire certain players only for most cases for it not to pan out or them to walk out for nothing in free agency (Ex. Foligno, ROR, and essentially most TDL acquisitions in the last couple years). Think this year outside of a minor depth move, we should be holding onto our draft picks and prospects and see what the team can do with what we already have.

Even-though our cap situation is not the greatest, I wish we were much smarter about our asset allocation and utilize our draft capital to take advantage of other team's cap to get potentially undervalued players on decent deals. See what COL did with D.Toews where they gave up 2 seconds for him, whereas we gave up 2 seconds for an aging Gio or a second for getting rid of the Ritchie contract/Lyubushkin rental.
