After being on a big skid, it looks like Montreal won't make the playoffs at this point. Do you think they will still want to finish the season strong or will they pull the plug and go for another really high draft pick? I wish that I could tell Kent Hughes to throw the season away and look at it as a learning experience. If they can draft Michael Misa, their rebuild will be complete. They can start competing next season when Demidov arrives and potentially make the playoffs. Winning many games in this final stretch would be really pointless and really harm their future.

Yes, I think from ownership down to the guy selling poutine in the upper mezzanine wants to win as many games as they can.

So it will go to a player on a non-tanking team like Celebrini? Or michkov?
Celebrini has been the frontrunner for a while and lots of the Huston (false) narrative was around him being the leader in the Habs resurgence.

He was good in that stretch but he was part of a huge team effort on that run.

The Habs really miss having Ghule who they can't replace at this point.

Ah, so hutson has to single handedly carry the habs to the playoffs to beat a guy on the last place team in the for... reasons.

Hutson leads all rookies in points and plays the tougher position. Celebrini has a better ppg, but you don't prorate performance for awards voting, a player either did something or they didn't.

I understand you're just salty that people compared hutson to Hughes and it hurt your feelings, but your deluded if you don't think hutson and celebrini are neck and neck right now.

No I'm just responding to a vocal group that was saying that and one guy in particular that didn't even respond after I showed counting stats to quashed his argument and he was inflating stats for some and not others.

Sure but Celebrini will most likely pass him and the harder position thing is over rated.

Huston plays defense but his Calder hopes lie in his scoring totals not defensive play.

I would describe it as a solid 1,2 with celebrini in front for position players and some have Wolf slotting in there now and maybe in the near future with more games played.

Of course as I write this Hutson gets a PP apple.

I'd do a modified Leaf-inspired tank. Sell off the veterans for future picks and prospects and drop as low as possible in the standings.

they aren’t that bad that they would drop in the standings, even after selling Vets
Well...a large part of the tank is the motivation to tank. The Leafs were clearly motivated to tank and selling off Kessel, Reimer, Phaneuf and others for futures just nudged the door opened enough to provide the excuse to tank.

The Habs are a character team...so you're probably right that they'd simply fill those voids with replacements that would strive harder to maintain and advance in the standings.

what do you mean by tank? if you're asking will they sell at the TDL, then yes. The coaches and players aren't just gonna start losing games on purpose though

No, they will not. Depends how you ask the question though:

1. Will Montreal go into the TDL as sellers, and move potentially a lot of pieces that normally get moved at a TDL? 100% yes. So - from that standpoint, maybe you want to answer the question yes.

2. However - will Montreal start losing a ton of games, and move towards bottom of standings? Absolutely not. I see them going on a mini-run.

3. Will they make the playoffs? I dunno, 50/50. But I think they'll be in the race till late in the season. They'll either qualify, or they'll come close.

Montreal sure added a lot of character when theyt selected Mailloux.
