It's a BS narrative and always has been.

A team that was motivated to win a 2nd cup around doesn't lose any motivation to win a 3rd cup.

No Bolt scored more goals than Tavares this series, and only 2 bolts scored more points (hedman 1 more point, Kucherov 2 more points) and both of them were minuses.

And Tavares also had a goal stolen from him.
 
A healthy TBL was 9th in xGF% this season. Same spot as last season, with the important difference that they didn't have Kucherov sitting out the entire season.

This isn't the TBL of yesteryear. Is it because they don't care anymore? Or because they lack the depth of earlier seasons, and the number of games their core has accumulated over the past 3 seasons?
 
I don't know how anyone could call this a choke. Toronto was extremely dangerous pretty much constantly. They just happened to run into the b2b Champs. I hear people saying major changes are coming and while I don't think it would hurt Toronto to shed some of their forward money, they also don't need much tinkering.

Kucherov is very obviously hurt. The third line, while in a much better place than before the trade deadline is still not where it was in seasons past but the 4th line is markedly better with Perry and Bellemare.

I think Tampa is just tired, like you mentioned. Toronto is extremely fast and they wore Tampa down. The book is out on them but it's still going to take a pretty perfect series to send them home, IMO

Maybe its a bit of karma payback, but where is this when the Leafs fans and Toronto Media is making the point about Oilers ruining McDavid?

So to all the leafs fans, remember this when you want to throw shade at the Oilers and McDavid. Or say McDavid wants to leave EDM. Could easily be same argument for Matthews leaving.

Vasi >> Campbell. That big Juicy rebound that Paul buried was the play that was the difference. Toronto is really good and they will eventually go deeper in playoffs. Remind me of the Bolts and how many times they fell short before getting the cup. They should get a goalie or defensemen and give up picks and maybe a forward .

I think this is fair. I think Campbell was good enough for Toronto. Not great enough to steal the series, but in the deciding game in that moment, that was the difference and that’s how close the series was.

its not about the results of the game

Its about Matthews and Leafs getting criticized. If you are using the argument that it takes some superstars 10+ years to win a cup to defend Matthews and Leafs, then you can't say McDavid should be pissed and leave the team after not winning in 7 years. (which I actually agree with, not every player can win the Cup, hockey is such a team sport, can't blame the stars)

Your fans and media been throwing shade at Edm since McDavid has been drafted, when your golden boy is facing the same situation. Kinda being a hypocrite don't you think?

When will Matthews leave the team? Leafs are ruining all their young star players.

Like I said...Karma is funny sometimes. The shade the Leafs fans are throwing, is the same shade that is happening to them. Something something about being in the glass house...lol

Just sick and tired from the last 6-7 years of Leafs fans/media using this argument, when its literally their own situation. BTW - I live in Toronto, so I know the shades that their fans throw at EDM and McDavid.

But let’s not forget that the Leafs were one of the best teams themselves this year. Obviously you were not worthy of being Stanley Cup champions and you merely got knocked out sooner than you might have if you drew someone else.

Reading the thread before game 1 was a funny read, so many leaf fans were claiming Tampa was going to be a pushover because they finished behind the leafs in the regular season, they claimed back to back cups didn't matter.

Fast forward to now "bbbutt cup champz!! Oilers has an easy match up"

Glad there's reasonable people like you around.
