Vasi >> Campbell. That big Juicy rebound that Paul buried was the play that was the difference. Toronto is really good and they will eventually go deeper in playoffs. Remind me of the Bolts and how many times they fell short before getting the cup. They should get a goalie or defensemen and give up picks and maybe a forward .

Game 7 was a very even game, and both goalies let in 2 goals.

Overall on the series, .897 for both goalies, though Vasi did allow 1 more official goals and 2 more actual goals overall.

I don't know how anyone could call this a choke. Toronto was extremely dangerous pretty much constantly. They just happened to run into the b2b Champs. I hear people saying major changes are coming and while I don't think it would hurt Toronto to shed some of their forward money, they also don't need much tinkering.

They played great and had the series wrapped up with a lead going into the third of game 6.

Then they got nervous, stopped doing what made them successfull and lost the series.

Thats a choke.

I think the comparison of it's like the Lightning in the past isn't really applicable. The lightning while being erratic at times lost in the conference finals 3 times and final once in the 9 years prior to winning the cups (ECF losses 2 and 4 years prior to winning the cup. Lost in the final 5 years before). The lightning weren't a team struggling to get out of the first round 6 years in a row. They were getting playoff series wins but couldn't get past the last obstacle. It's not the same as the Leafs.

That doesn't mean the Leafs should be blown up completely or anything but I do think it means they need to do more than nibble around the edges.

Maybe its a bit of karma payback, but where is this when the Leafs fans and Toronto Media is making the point about Oilers ruining McDavid?

So to all the leafs fans, remember this when you want to throw shade at the Oilers and McDavid. Or say McDavid wants to leave EDM. Could easily be same argument for Matthews leaving.

Karma is a bitch

He also conveniently forgets to list the people who won cups faster then that.

Like Crosby for example.

The Bolts only won thanks to game management.

Aw thr guy who constantly complained about every call during the series is still blaming the refs after the leafs choked the series away.

What a twist.

That's the worst I've seen Vasilevskiy play in quite a while, really surprised Toronto couldn't beat them. I understand it's not a choke, but damn; to let that slip with him playing that poorly.

Same goes for Kucherov, he was actually kind of terrible.

I think the Leafs lost to Tampa's discipline with their defensive play, and that 3rd line was actual f***ing mayhem.

They weren't nervous in the least, were in complete control, giving the bolts nothing, and then the refs called two hilarious penalties to gift the bolts a 2 minute 2 man advantage.

The Bolts haven't a 115pt team like the Leafs in either of their cup runs.

It was expected that they would look worse in this series than they had in any of those.

Except that you are justify this by basing it on assumptions about things that has never happened. But hey, if your adolescent behaviour makes you feel like a man go for it bruh
The Leafs go on a couple game win streak and we see 5 threads on the main board. This place would be unbearable if they ever won. Thankfully that looks like it might never happen at this point

Toronto played really well, I think. I'm just surprised they didn't win the series with how bad Vasi played. Not so much the team but more Vasi. Genuinely. Although with a team as skilled as Toronto they can control the pace of the game quite easily.

As for the bold, I'd have to look back but I suspect you are correct. This Toronto team was arguably the second best team in the league (if you aren't sold on Florida). Tough for them to lose, but as an outsider it seems like they always find a way. Not sure what you do to fix that, they have all the pieces to win a Championship but can't get out of the first round.

Nylander was great in 2 games this series.
He was also invisible in 3 games including game 7.

The reason people jumped all over Marner last year was that it looked like he wasn't trying out there.

The reason this fanbase loves players like Hyman, Tucker, Domi, Roberts, Clark, and the like is not that they are/were world beaters, it's because they never cheated us on effort.

When he's going, when he is engaged and skating hard, Nylander is a phenomenal player. We don't expect good defense from him, we don't expect him to turn into Hatcher either, but we expect him to push the other team back on their heels with his speed and great movement on the puck.

Other than the shift he was held up on going into a breakaway (a blatant missed call to be honest), Nylander didn't look interested in the play for all of game 7.

Game 1, 2, and 7 he was terrible.
Games 5 and 6 he was great.

A core player that is either great or terrible and almost never anywhere in between is hard to swallow. If the ratio of bad to great is 1:1 then I can't rely on that guy to be a core player making 7 million.
I couldn’t disagree with you more. He generated more offensive attacks than any other Leaf. I’m a Tampa Lightning fan. Roberts was a thug on skates.

Remarkable that the team that has won the last 2 Cups won a series? The hot takes are incredible.

Making it out of the first round was nothing if the Leafs finally did it this year but now it's a crowning achievement for teams when comparing past seasons. The goal is the Cup bud.
The Cup is the goal. Doesn’t mean your fans wouldn’t be losing their minds if they finally made it to the second round. Someday in the next decade we may find out

imagine calling a pick play that never gets called in a game 7. crazy stuff.

especially when muzzin was interfered with on TB's 2nd goal and no call.
Imagine your team NEVEr coming up clutch in 6 straight years but blaming the refs each and everytime.

No need for management to hold the team accountable, they know the fans won’t and will just blame the refs each and every time

It may be applicable from a team balance standpoint and that was my point. Being over stacked offensively was adjusted by giving up three strong forwards and bringing in defensive forwards and free agent defense first defensemen. This is something Toronto could do. In the playoffs it is about keeping it out of the net in the crucial games . Campbell gave a huge rebound on a soft shot for one goal and Paul split three defenders on the second.

That’s the way I saw it too. I’m not sure I’d call it a choke but they reverted to playing on the perimeter later on in game 7. Greasy goals are usually what wins the big games and that means driving the net. I thought the Leafs got away from that later in games 6 and 7. That Point injury was a huge advantage for them but they failed to capitalize.

Imagine lying about me ever blaming the refs for any of the other series.

lol this is so petty. might as well count all the pucks that went in the net during the warm-ups too while your at it

is it even possible for any factor to be petty in a series decided by 1 goal?

Except one goalie only allowed one goal?

That’s true. You’ve found a different scapegoat every series. 😆
The Dube Abides indeed!

If pointing out that our elite scorers flat out failed vs MTL and CBJ is "finding a scapegoat", then sure.

yes, when you stoop to using a vague enough definition of "goals" in your argument that even disallowed goals can be part of the argument, i think that fits the definition solidly

nothing vague about it. the goal was scored. the reasons for it being disallowed were borderline even for a regular season game, let alone a game 7.

Except one goalie only allowed one goal?

he allowed a 2nd goal, which was then disallowed.
