It's got you talking doesn't it? And the league as a whole by extension. That's the point. Engagement.
I get your point, but there are better ways to create engagement than making ridiculously stupid power rankings. I would still be discussing them if they were more realistic.

I don't get the point of them introducing the power rankings, doesn't take much for someone to look at the standings to see the true power rankings... I am guessing the weekly CHL Top 10 was not enough..

How is Mississauga so low? That's the 2 best teams (so far) at 9 and 10.

They are sticking too much to their preseason predictions, when they are notoriously unreliable. I get London being first because they have a good roster and are off to a good start, but Ottawa doesn't look so good right now and some of the others in the top 10 are off to rough starts. Why is North Bay up 6 spots after going 3-3?
It’s a weird rating system. I also think Soo should be ahead of London right now, cause they beat the Knights.

Was BG a big target for you guys?

Not likely with 3 OAs but someone i wanted LOL. I think Dom and Nelson are more likely targets for SSM, if they are selling. I honestly assumed Saginaw would be in on the duo as well.

I think SSM will need to add a goalie though..and teams are moving fast on goalies....

The Soo
they might as well be throwing darts to pick their power rankings at this point. as others have suggested, the only rankings that matter are the standings!

I think Owen Beck is a perfect fit for the Greyhounds too and my mind keeps going to what Brady Martin would look like in a Peterborough Petes uniform as well... Of all the teams potentially in on Owen Beck, the Greyhounds hold the best potential pieces/collection of players for a trade (Martin, Virgillio, Brown, Kostov). I know he was the 3rd overall pick but getting Brady Martin back and taking less picks is something I would do in a heartbeat. Brady Martin and Carson Cameron would be a great start to the '07 and '08 core to build around for the Petes. Could truly be the difference between Owen Beck wearing a Greyhounds jersey instead of the London Knights or Saginaw Spirit but don't know if the SOO could stomach it especially with the hiring of Ertel and such but I suppose you never know because rings and banners mean a lot:laugh:

Owen Beck for Brady Martin, 2nd, 3rd, 5th
In some ways look to last years Sarnia deal for Ethan Del Mastro, Luca Del Bel Belluz, 2nd, 4th, 4th

0 percent of Martin is moving. I doubt teams even ask for Martin.

There are only 2 players in the league id trade Martin for and one isn't even here. Poitras and Micheal Misa.

Mackenzie, Mayich and Stonehouse from Ottawa for Miller, Brown, Virgilio + picks.... takers?

Not sure there are many "upgrade" options to Charlie left. Dom or Oster, and I don't think Oster is going anywhere lol. I would like Dom, but as others have alluded to there are other areas that could be cleaned up first. 1 G, 1D, 1/2F is still what I maintain we will need to add if we want to win the whole thing.

As I have said, it's not that I don't trust Charlie or think he is capable, I just think a tandem going down the road will help us out. That's a lot of pressure on Miller down the stretch, for any 17-year-old goalie for that matter.

This is also not a knock on Miller, I believe he is truly one of the best goalie prospects in the league right now. Which is why I believe we are positioned well to land Dom IF that's the route they take... IF North Bay even sells lol.

I wonder if the SOO was in on Michael Simpson at all

I would consider trading Martin and Miller for DiVincentiis and Nelson, but that's just me. I would only do it if we're still in a strong position in the standings at the deadline.

We can do this deal without Martin.

Brown + Miller + Virgilio + picks will do it..

Something like...

Landon Miller
Matthew Virgilio
Christopher Brown
2024 2ND Flint
2027 2nd SSM
2025 3rd SAG
2024 4th NB
2024 4th LDN

Leaves us with 1 2nd, 1 3rd and 5 4th round picks in the 4 year window

I think it's possible to have too much of a good thing. Nelson to me might be too much of a good thing. Karki might have PP1, you going to bring in Nelson for PP2? Do we really need another powerplay quarterback/puck moving defenseman? I think our need on defense is a bigger body stay at home defenseman, no?

his hot takes were so bad... he was willing to die on the hill about dubas "being too young an inexperienced"...

he loves his windsor spitfires that's for sure!

Big Saginaw fan too.. edit: nvm, thats Randy

I can agree to this, yep, but I'd also hate to see him on another contending team lol

I wouldn't consider it at at all. Martin will be a star in this league. even this year, if he wasn't hurt he'd be producing.

i agree with Pops here. while there's no denying hes a special talent and would love to have him, that'd push Kirill down and for the price we'd have to pay for him, i'd rather get a big, mean, defensive defenceman.

I'd like to see us go for DiVen and Beck and Smith from Peterborough. if we have anything left, add another older depth forward.

all this IMO

It's way too early for these trade proposals IMO. We still don't even know what pieces we need.

I am a little concerned about defense. We are rostering 8 defensemen, but 2 of them are rookies (mini-BMB, Evans) and they have combined only played in one game (and as a 7th defenseman at that). If these two players aren't able to earn the coaches trust and get meaningful regular season minutes, then a significant addition to the D corps will be required. I like the suggestion of someone like a Konnor Smith.

Goaltending is also potentially a position that we might look at upgrading. But we need more games from both our goalies before we can determine what kind of addition is needed (or whether or not one is required at all).

We seem to be a pretty tight checking team, but not overly physical. Clattenburg will help with that, but it's possible we may want to add more veteran grit to aid in that area as games tighten up even more in the playoffs. I already mentioned a player like Stonehouse who can also put up points, but plays a more Brad Marchand style of game.

Scoring is all but guaranteed to cool off, but as it stands right now it's the least of our worries. And particularly if we make additions as outlined above, our assets are not unlimited. All this talk about Beck makes me concerned we are going to try to be the Windsor Spitfires of the last two years and just try to score our way out of any jam. I would prefer that we take our time and address our real needs. Owen Beck might be a "want", more than a "need" this season.
Beck is for the all-in team.
He has been the top face-off guy since entering the league, he hits very hard, and is easily top 3 defensive forward imo.

If spreading limited assets over D, G, F in that order. Stonehouse might be a luxury the team cannot afford.. His marketing team has made the legend outgrow the ability imo.

Edit: I saw the SSMhoundsfan suggestion. The hounds can have those three ‘67s if willing to give up three players
