So Lapierre signed for 1.1M? I guessed 1.2M, who said 2M?

I'd have to guess at least one of Pyatt/Boyle may be moved.

Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Hagelin - Brass - Callahan
Pouillot - Richards - Zuke
Pyatt/Boyle - Moore - Dorsett.
Mash

Well they're not gonna keep Pyatt over Boyle.

yea 185lbs hitting you or 230 pound person hitting you who hits harder. Our guys who actually weigh over 200lbs don't hit anything. The only ones who hit are small guys who don't do much damage.

Here's a 185 pound player hitting a 230 pound player.

looks fine to me.

I understand you have to give to get. Kassian is worth more than miller at this point and outside this board you would find that out quickly IMO.

I'll leave the breeding to you.

Because most people aren't educated on Miller.

Kassian may be worth Miller right now, but he won't be in the future. I don't know if you're like 12 or something, but I'm sick of the days where we trade away guys only to watch them prosper elsewhere.

I don't know what their plans are but Boyle has more value than Pyatt, he can be packaged for a good return.
I still think they need to get that RHD PP trigger.

Agree.

Only issue is, in order to get that defenseman, and have a place to play him, they'd need to move a defenseman, as well.

Unless, Vigneault notices that John Moore can shoot the puck effectively and uses him on the Power Play.

Rangers didnt finish in first place 2 years ago because they fought a ton.

that's asinine.

they finished in first because Marian Gaborik, Henrik Lundqvist and Brad Richards had terrific years and the supporting cast did its job.

Marian Gaborik, Brad Richards and Henrik Lundqvist had average to mediocre years to start off the season, Henrik got it going after a handful of games, but BR and Gabby never got it together.

When Richards got hot, the Rangers started to win games like crazy. When Richards went cold, so did the team.

It's a new, novel concept, but, believe it or not, when your best players are...you know...your best players, you win!

And the PP dipped to new levels. I can't remember how many points the PP cost them.

Also injuries took a bite, Clowe, Staal. If they played the Boston series it could have gone a different way. Clowe could have helped counter the advantage the B's had.

This is very true.

It also didn't help matters that Tortorella couldn't and didn't adjust. Stubborn to the end.

Your arrogance is cringe worthy.

It's amazing to me that people continue to confuse a lack of forward depth and an extreme collapsing defensive system with some unforgivable lack of toughness. We didn't lose to the Bruins because they were tougher than us. We lost because they played better hockey than we did.

Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Given Clowes insane contract demands he had to walk. He got his money elsewhere, one more hit to the head and he will be sitting up there with Lou... Terrible trade in lost assets, but sometimes you gotta take some chances. We did...
Clarksson also got insane money.
Raffi Torres got signed for 1,75 M
Getting bigger guys that can both play and fight is almost impossible on the free market. Has to come from within or trade. I am pretty sure that if we need a real heavyweight in the regular season due to incidents on the ice, we will get one. But getting toughness and skill packaged in one guy is not an easy task. Hopefully Big Mac develops now. Yogan as well. Dorsett, Asham (if he stays), Falk and Haley all can through them. Stu in the minors s a good fighter too. Noreau can throw them as well - but needs to add hockey to his game.

We don't need to necessarily be more tough but we do need to become more difficult to play against, mainly by getting guys who can skate, crash the net and who are assertive with or without the puck.

Team toughness. That's part of the reason Ulf is here.

It's weird, this Rangers team while not really the smurfs, is starting to be built with guys who can all skate and pass. What do we call them? The skates.

They are too soft, up front and on d. Rangers don't scare anyone, Washington even said it before the series. I'm hoping Ulfie comes in here and rubs off on the defense. The defense core does an excellent job for the most part, but there's no snarl back there. How many times did they not clear the crease? They need to learn to play with a bit of a mean streak too

D a lot tougher with Staal back

It's not fantasizing to talk about the late 80's and early 90's Rangers unless you weren't there. The fact is the best Rangers teams since I've followed the team were always tough and there was always someone who could really take care of business when the need arose.

Traditionally (and I started following the Rangers back in 71-72) the Rangers have always slanted their rosters towards skill over grit. Come up the ice with speed, short passes, drop passes--scoring play. As far as forwards whether it's Bathgate, Ratelle, Gilbert that has been primarily the model that most Rangers teams have followed since the 60's. The late 60's-70's Rangers teams never won the Cup--they either got muscled around by the Bruins who were bigger, stronger, tougher and had Orr or got outskilled by the Canadiens with all their future HOF'ers and if push really came to shove out on the ice came John Ferguson--somewhat akin to being the Bob Probert of his day. The Rangers have gone the pure skill road numerous times. It has never won them anything.

Somewhere around the end of the 80's the Rangers started acquiring or developing young guys who could fight and also play--Kris King, Tie Domi, Troy Mallette--eventually those 3 moved along and were replaced by others and by the time the 93-94 season it was Kypreos, Kocur, Beukeboom, Wells, Graves etc. etc. and they finally were able to win that one elusive Cup. That Rangers team was very proactive physically--not just the above but Tikkanen was a bigger version of Marchand, Messier--one of the dirtier players of his era, Matteau--not a frequent fighter but very, very good. That was a tough team and the team we have now doesn't rate with it on that kind of a scale--nor does it match the skill.

Anyway what Boston has done--and has proven can be done--is found several guys that cannot only play but take care of business wherever and whenever. We've heard the stuff how similar the Bruins and Rangers styles are. They were much closer last year when the Rangers had Prust, Rupp etc. The Bruins tougher guys are better players. Rangers need to do this. McIlrath is just about a sure bet to be one guy. They need others. The argument isn't whether guys like Callahan, Moore or even Dorsett aren't tough players. The argument is how they really hang in against bigger, stronger, meaner players and none of them are big or strong enough to make someone like a Lucic take a backward step. The Rangers were outmuscled by the Devils last year's playoffs and the Bruins this year's playoffs. Pretty much the same scenario repeating itself.

looks fine to me.

How about the video of that 185 pound player injuring his shoulder and becoming ineffective because theres no one to back him up hitting every other team's 230 pound players every night?

This takes me back to the days when fans used to worship the ice Hollweg, Mccarthy and Barnaby skated on. Talent wins Titles.

This argument again. Mayers,Bollig and Carcillo barely played for the Hawks. Bollig cost the Hawks game 2 in the finals. He couldn't get the puck out and Paille scored the OT goal. Some people shouldn't root for the Rangers. Its makes them miserable. Chicago gave Shaw a chance to play. JT Miller has bite to his game if people are willing to give him an opportunity.

How many fights are there in the playoffs?

Logic doesnt work on these boards. People confuse snarl with the ability to fight. The rangers have plenty of snarl. Cant employ a bottom 6 or even a bottom 3 of fighters. You need talent 1-12 up front. This is why they lost to NJ in 2012, and its a big reason they lost to Boston this year: The other club's 4th line beat our 3rd line.

How'd that work out for Washington?
