Your point is what? The better TEAM won, regardless of how soft they were.

The whole point is in the first post. They don't have any snarl on defense. No one clears the crease, no one plays physical enough. And before I get misunderstood fyithtygf omfg fhjdghhfg duh he wants goons, no....they need to be more physical and be more noticeable. I'm hoping Ulfie can fix that

Fair enough. I agree it would be better for us to be harder to play against. But just because we are "soft" doesn't mean we aren't good enough to win. The two are not mutually exclusive.

I'll agree fair enough, I would just like to see them play more with an edge.

Grown ass men are scared of each other now? The only thing anyone fears is a cheap shot. It's not like guys refuse to dress because of Shawn ****ing Thornton.

Ya but not many guys will fight Shawn Thornton because they know they will get their ass kicked. Guys are afraid of eachother. How do you not think that? So Hagelin wouldn't be scared if Chara grabbed him and dropped the gloves? I call BS.

I'm sure quite a few people would be scared if Derek Dorsett or Michael Haley were going to fight them. The Chara example is a bad one, he's not exactly the best fighter out there. Lucic would scare me.

I think this is a good point. People calling this team soft are just trying to stir the pot.

However, I have heard many interviews with former NHLers admitting they were scared plenty of times. It's only natural. Scared does not mean you don't push forward and do what you have to do. Having some team mates willing to back you makes this easier to do, yes?

If the Rangers can bring Noreau and McIlrath along and add a capable but similar player to the forward ranks, does anyone doubt that they would be a better team?

So if you have an entire team of goons you can intimidate the other team into not showing up?

Or does the opposing team just refuse to fight and score 35 goals?

That is not the point I was trying to make. All I am saying is that some guys are scared of others. He said that grown men aren't scared of each other, when they definitely are.

Not being willing to fight them is in no way related to not being willing to play against them.

Yeah.. once again all I am saying is that some guys are scared of others. That is it, stop trying to dissect it. It is as simple as I can make it. I'm not talking about how it affects their playing, all I am saying is that some are scared of others.

If it isn't, then why would you build a team around preventing a scenario that will never happen?

You guys are really trying to get more out of this than it really is. Would you not agree that some guys are scared of others? Because that is really the only thing I am trying to say. I didn't say we should build a team based on that.

SOME GUYS ARE SCARED OF OTHER GUYS THAT IS ALL!!!

I would disagree. I don't think this is something relevant while playing. The game is too fast and there are too many other things to thing about that concerning yourself about this. Sure, maybe they'll get scared if challenged to a fight but you can just back out. I think say a player sees room in the slot his first thoughts are going to be like
1. Open space
2. Good scoring chance
3. Open up a passing lane
....
X. Let's check who the defenseman is...oh it's Chara..I'll just peel off and go to the corner.

And all of this has to be done in less than a second. Highly doubt his first reaction will be to peel off.

What might the reason be then that the Rangers brain trust drafted McIlrath instead of Cam Fowler? Dylan had more skill? If you read any of Beacon's game analyses' for the past season you might have noticed on a few occasions he mentioned enemy forwards trying their damnedest not to get caught between McIlrath and the boards. They didn't like getting hit by him in open ice either. If that's not intimidation what would you call it? That he could back it up further--let's not call it scared let's call it leery like someone deciding not to walk a certain way home even if it's much shorter just because it's a lot more dangerous--and that like it or not is a very natural human reaction related to the survival instinct.

The thing is McIlrath got drafted ahead of more skilled players because McIlrath is a package. He's going to be a legit player too. Someone like Rupp not so much and someone like Boogaard (RIP) not at all. Boston has 4 guys opponents on other teams are leery of starting with Chara and Lucic. Then there's McQuaid and Thornton. And of the four even Thornton is a passable player.

Just remembering Gaborik pushing, shoving with Carcillo--got the idea then that Gaborik really would have liked to be just about anywhere else at that moment but where he was and also got the idea Girardi was thinking the same thing and Carcillo is a mediocre fighter. Who fought Carcillo later on then--Avery who's a shrimp.

Toughness isn't just willingness to fight, it's more about being hard as hell to play against. NYR has a lot of guys who are either too small to be a pain or just don't play that kind of game.

You need guys who are hard to play against. I think it's a valid point to say that NYR is seriously lacking in that department. This team's bottom 6 is a disaster. Every year Sather tries to throw a new bag of crap against the wall and hopes it sticks.

So Chara grabs Hagelin and drops his gloves. This imaginary goin we have is certainly not on the ice with Hagelin's line anyway. Hes on the bench. He jumps onto the ice to fight Chara? Its suspension worthy.
