Softest team in the NHL

asham is tough, powe is tough, pyatt is tough(ish), boyle is tough, dorsett is tough, halpern is tough, newbury is tough, rupp is tough, bickel is tough, mashinter is tough and haley is tough. these players got us absolutely no where this season. those 10 players had 20 points this season. 11 of them were pyatt so if you dont count him as "tough" they had 9 points this season. teams who go far dont have useless tough grinders who cant do ****, they have solid role players who can chip in when needed. secondary scoring is much more of a priority than signing crappy grinders or goons so we can out hit the league.

Look how Vancouver was so successful with Kassian though.

He looked like a scrub without Sedin on his line.

So in other words now is the perfect time to buy low?
Do you feel he couldn't fill a third line checking role?
He is exactly what we need.

Rangers were first in fights and won the east and almost went to the cup., last yr almost last in fights and barely make the playoff,s additiude is everything in hockey

Was waiting for this one. This thread usually pops up in the Rangers forum towards the end of free agency season when Sather has failed to satisfy the bloodlust of the so-called "die hards", formerly mainly of the 400's sections in MSG, by failing to sign any impact players like Colton Orr or Raitis Ivanans. I guess with the frenzy of today this thread had to manifest itself prematurely.

This isn't the 80's folks. Time to wake up and smell the goal differential column.

This team needs Brandon Prust. One of my favorite Rangers. Would jump in front of a train if it meant winning and could pot a couple goals here and there. Thanks Glen for letting him walk for a measly 500k or whatever it was.

I think Prust was a large reason for the first part.

And i think Dorsett could be a big reason for getting back toward that. He didnt have the chance to really play his game in 2013 because of the injury.

Ah the cause and effect thing.

The only difference on the team between 11-12 and 12-13 was how often they fought.

Prust is VASTLY overpaid. Term and dollars.

Derek Dorsett is almost exactly the same kind of player.

but a lot of those fights were prust. prust wasnt just a goon who fought, he could also play. we need players like prust or clowe not more rupps brashears or boogaards. we dont need to become a team of professional fighters, we need people who can play on the edge and also play hockey. there was/is no one available who can do that at a reasonable price.

Like Goon said, it's the attitude. It's not the fights themselves, but the message to each other and the other team that nonsense will not be tolerated. I think Ulf Samuelsson will improve the atmosphere in that regard.

i hope ulfie can help with that. i could be completely wrong but i thought that torts discouraged fighting this season.

The Rangers have that player on the roster. Derek Dorsett is exactly that player.

He didn't get a chance to play in the regular season for the Rangers because of the broken bone. And he shouldn't have been playing in the playoffs at all.

With a full summer to recover and a full training camp, you'll see how effective Dorsett can be in that role.

Nope but Bickel Rupp and prust kicked a lot of ass and set the tone the 2013 rangers turned the other cheek and got pushed around

Well there were certainly games where Asham and Dorsett saw like 3 minutes and this very often came after starting a fight.

This guys overpaid, that guys overpaid. Look at the contracts signed today and honestly tell me that Prusts overpaid. It's easy to say that when you just look at the dollars and cents. That extra $500k that Prust got wouldn't be the difference between winning and not winning a cup. Especially when we're paying Broadway Brad millions upon millions to sit in the press box during elimination games. If you want to talk about bad contracts fine but there's one you have to consider before balking at what Prust got and his name is Beav

oh i believe dorsett can be the second coming of prust for us, but it seems as if this thread was made in spite of sather signing moore and pouliot instead of some goon.

True, Bickel and Rupp were the reason the rangers made it within 2 games of the SCF.

Not Marian Gaborik, or Henrik Lundqvist or Chris Kreider or any of those guys that you know, score goals?

It was probably Bickels 3 minute games and dangerous glares from the bench that led the way.

Yet again the people here can not admit or see others point of view, 16 let me break it down for you
Guys like gabby player better when they are protected and have a chip on their shoulder.
Say whatever you like but players love enforcers on the team. I am not saying goons just guys willing to get dirty and we don't have them on this roster

3:24 in a 3OT game :biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

mcdonagh player 50 more minutes. girardi and dz played about 40 more. staal played around 50 minutes. the only thing stu did well was get stralman sheltered minutes. we need guys who can play, not goons

Rupp and Bickel couldn't skate an effective regular shift. You simply can not carry players like that and be an effective hockey team.

Dorsett is going to replace what this team lost in Prust.

Dominic Moore is a fiesty and physical player.

This notion that the Rangers are soft is a fallacy.

You also can't sit back and take a rear-end banging the way Tortorella had this team playing. Collapsing and giving puck possession to the opposition by default. No forecheck. No transition. No adaptation.

Watch Vigneault push the pace. Defense will attack and transition. Moore will help defensive zone possession because of his faceoff prowess. Forecheck will be stronger.

There's just unfortunately no room for a goon anymore. The new goon is a Prust/Dorsett type of guy. Fortunately the Rangers have one. I wanted Dorsett in the Nash deal. Luckily we got him later in the Gaborik deal.

So you're saying Gaborik and Richards had a bad year because Bickel wasn't there on the bench for moral support?
