I think Matthews is more likely to stay if he has success... similar to McDavid suddenly loving Edmonton after his teams playoff success (something he seemed to regret later once the excitement of that run wore off).

We continue to lose and I think Matthews would be more likel to leave.

I mean.... Dubas inherited Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Rielly. Tavares probably had his leaf pajamas photo prepped and ready for instagram since he was drafted. The rest of this team is pretty forgettable.

If irc dubas swayed the vote for Marner and Nylander and Matthews was a no brainer.

However he did it he did get to the Finals. Being a GM in montreal isnt the same. You are limited to who you can hire as a coach due to language issues.

He has made some great trades getting Suzuki and Weber for a player who was very well loved Montreal. Trading PK was a ballsy move

There are lots of instances when a hot goalie has carried a team on his back to a deep playoff run or even a cup.
Cary price is a beast and has carried that Habs team for years and when he's out, so are they.

I'd take a run at Trots. But I've also from day one not been a fan of Keefe.

I think the forward depth needs to be more well rounded players. More Hymans, Blackwell's and Kerfoots less Mikheyev and Clifford's.

I'm not really as worried about goaltending. Keep jack, move Mrazek and pick up a real starter to push Jack.

I know in Toronto it feels like the sky is falling but I truely believe that the mix just hasn't been right and hiring the rookie coach was the wrong decision. I do think a lot of Dubas, I think the good out weighs the bad but I come from a team that has had MacTavish>Chiarelli>Holland as GMs so what do I know

Like someone posted, the Caps was a talented Offensive team before Trotz and became a talented offensive and defensive team under Trotz. Are current Leafs players so entitle that they won’t listen to anyone? If that’s the case, ship them all out because what’s the point of winning Rocket or Hart if you don’t want to sacrifice personal stats for Cup

If it's a personnel problem, get new players.
If it's a team philosophy problem, get a new GM.

So the question for Shanny is which of those does he believe is true, from none to all? If he likes the philosophy and players, then it's a no-brainer to set up a meeting with Trotz.

Why? They lost one of the best shutdown C's to free agency, their #1D to LTIRetirement and their stud goalie was hurt all year too. Anyteam that loses a 2C 1D and 1G would struggle.

Keefe is Dubas' guy and he's sticking with him.

How many coaches did bargainbin get in Montreal? How many coaching changes was George mcphee allowed to make in Washington? Since trotz left Nashville Poile has had a revolving door there. GM’s get opportunities to fix mistakes, often their first coach hiring being one of them, especially when so much else of what’s going on in the organization looking positive aside from playoff results with a solid prospect pool, no true anchors on the cap, (JT I suppose is a question mark) and a group of young players looking to push for full time spots next year up front and on the blue line. There’s opportunity to mix up the middle of the roster by trading out/letting walk a group of players that includes Mrazek Campbell Muzzin Holl Kerfoot Kase Mikheyev. That’s $21m in cap to reshape the team with some potentially cheap in house replacements allow you to splurge on a player or two (stud 1g and a big body forward)
