People think all Trotz does it the trap-NYI style. He only did that because they have no talent. He didn't have to do that in Washington when he had the likes of Ovechkin, Backstrom, Kuznetsov etc. I don't doubt him being able to find the optimal style for our roster

Trotz would push these guys and never allow them to become complacent. Much better than Keefe and his "2-2 split is great" attitude

I like Keefe but Imo you upgrade at every position when you can and I think he's an upgrade over Keefe.
When he went to Washington I wondered if he would stifle the caps offense and how he would get along with OV, and he did stellar all over.
On the island he took mediocre and gave them some decency.
With our team and talent I think Trotz would be tickled pink to have a true #1 two-way centre and the rest of this lineup. His matchup game and in game management is top notch.
I only see upside here.

If you believe in the players, you change the coach. And a guy like Trotz is probably the best you’ll ever be able to bring in.

If you believe in the management, you trade the players.

I see Trotz as that step. This core showed they can play with Tampa and Imo we got robbed in game 6 and well couldn't figure out how to break through Tampa in game 7, Barry can provide that IMHO. He's a good tactician and with this talent, the sky's the limit

i'm sure keefe is a nice guy but he has to go. 3 straight playoff losses in a row, especially with the montreal debacle last year. center of the hockey universe and you have a rookie gm and coach. bring in trotz who has actually won, and with a team similar to ours with the offensive talent they had.

Time is ticking. 2 years until Matthews/Nylander are UFAs and zero playoff success to show for it. We obviously need big help pointing us in the right direction. Teams don’t lose 6 first rounds in a row because they are unlucky. They lose because something is pretty wrong. Trotz would be step 1. The core is then step 2 and a new GM not far behind.

Imo we need a goalie, either a solid platoon or preferably a #1 somehow.
A solid sytem can compensate for a goalie that's average, which we have.

Ovi is a killer. Oshie is as clutch as they come. Wilson is the most feared player in the game. Carlson was a top 5 d man in the league.

Agreed. In these years you would expect to advance at least once and as Einstein said, insanity is doing the same thing Iver and over but expecting a different result

But Islanders didn’t really have top goalies either. It is their system. I think Campbell can be very effective under Trotz

Trotz is a great coach and Lou in Long Island will eventually be fired for his big mistake in firing Trotz because the Islanders will be worse without him. Second, this is a problem with the leafs. Management and fans seem to beleive that the players run the show, I say this because of comments made here about having to get rid of players if they hire Trotz. This is one of the biggests reasons why the leafs loose when it matters most. Players get paid to play, not to run the team, players get paid very big bucks and need to get over it if they're feelings are not appeased. Honestly if a player complained about his feelings getting hurt, I would tell him, I really don't care about your feelings, get out there and play as your told to play. Or you will be traded. Where i work thin skinned workers are ridiculed and told to grow some balls and stop with the feely stuff or get another job. Thirdly for the Leafs to hire Trotz, yes he would have to have control of the roaster. He will decide who is in the line up and who is not and the position the player plays and the system the players play. The Caps realized and gave Trotz those keys and the players Like OV, Backstrom and Co understood that and they went all in because they wanted the Stanley Cup and beleive that Trotz could get them there. This same thing would have to happen here. If management continues to let the players dictate in areas they have no buisness dictating, they will never win the Cup. It is that simple.

Exactly, that’s why I don’t buy the narrative that the boys won’t listen to Trotz. A few years ago, maybe. But not now, esp after this series. This is the first time I see them feels piss and know it was a missed opportunity.
They will listen to Trotz and i will have Spezza as asst coach if he decides to retire.

I can't see a head coaching change happening without a change (or even two) above him. Trotz certainly seems like the right hire if the intention is to bring in proven experience though.
