Benching highly paid players is never much of an option and rarely works long term. They'll take their guaranteed high money contract and happily sit and wait you out as their coach. This is EXACTLY what happened with Babcock.

They'll play the way they want to and tune out any comments from the coach they might not like or how they are coaching them. As soon as anything negative hits the airwaves, just watch what their agents have to say !!!
Many great players have found themselves riding a bus in the cheddar or the AHL by acting that way . Some players have even found themselves without a career from that crap . Ask Josh Ho Sang how your idea works in a proper organization .

Yes, off course he is entitled to his full compensation even if fired - but that would not prevent him from signing with any other team. No team has ever blocked their fired coach from signing elsewhere to my knowledge. I believe the signing team would give some financial relief to his former team as well in that scenario, though that part of it is murky.
It's not murky at all do your homework instead of guessing , any deal has to clear the Leafs period he is still on payroll , this isn't like your job at burger king this is contract work , they could have negotiated a buyout but they both signed a guaranteed contract so they have to pay him and he has to get their approval to sign any sort of pro deal , and then the new team has to pay the Leafs what they owe him plus whatever the Leafs want , there has even been cases where the buyout extra was a player or management body .

Yes it was clear as day, also irrelevant as it relates to winning. And if you’re actually arguing Dubas deliberately sand bagged the team, I think we’re done here.
Yeah thats a step too far .

What's with the nerd rage?

Why don't you present your source for this instead of acting so pissy and expecting me to take you at your word? Where did you dig up the idea that the new has to pay the Leafs what the Leafs owe him + a premium?

That sounds ridiculous.

Mute point, Keefe is staying !!! /thread
It ain't over until the fat lady sings.
It's not like they would say one thing then do another.
I believe masai said he wouldn't trade DeRozan :dunno:

I'm suggesting that just because everyone is safe today, doesn't mean they will be safe tomorrow.
I agree with that

Under Dubas you can still do a terrible job and be brought back. Manny prime example
Keefe did not do a terrible job though. He did a great job but if we can upgrade, we should

Welp.

When asked about Barry Trotz and Peter DeBoer:

“My reason for that is my belief in Sheldon and the job he’s done here so far. I think Sheldon will continue to get better and I think when we speak of Sheldon in 10 or 15 years from now, it will be in the same way you speak of those two great coaches now.

That will be played out here in Toronto.”

Keefe with stupid comments about rizpect and his buddy Dubas comparing great coaches like Trotz with our ahl coach. Wow, let’s wait for more inspiring quotes.

There are some things about Dubas I like, but what I don’t like is his stupid f***ing grandiose comments. He has not yet learned to shut his pie hole.

Yesterday this poll was at 86%, today it is at 78% … just goes to show how many drank the kool-aid Shanny and Dubas were serving up at the presser yesterday.

Dubas could make moves to bring back an even better team next year, but come playoff time it will all be for naught when the coach gets schooled by the opponent’s coach, per his m.o.
I’ll give him a pass getting out-coached as a rookie against Tortorella, but last year he was out coached by frickin Ducharme and this year Cooper made him his bitch, not to mention his asinine treatment of Liljegren, who showed down the stretch he was EASILY better than Holl.

I like Keefe, I thought he was the right coach over Babcock, no doubt. But if a coach like Trotz is available and they do not at least do their due diligence and see if he’s interested, they are not doing their job.

While true, the Leafs won't come out publicly and say that they're kicking tires on other coaches.

Without a doubt it was brought upon a private conversation.

Also people need to stop paying attention to these pressers ... they're meaningless fluff. Let's see the actions in the off-season to truly gauge things.

So we are in the 10-15 year window?

Keeping Keefe might the mistake that sinks him.

The gap between Masai and Dubas is so huge.

To be honest I was critical of Masai for moving off of Casey and Derozan for Kawai.

I was wrong.

Dude showed me a lot about having guts and putting it on the line. It sends a strong message to your team that you are all about winning above all else.

Dubas is showing he puts friendship above winning.

We are breeding another Muskoka 5.

Is this the same coach who put Thornton out in every key situation when he shouldn't even been playing?
The genius who didn't switch anything up with AM/MM when the Habs had totally shut them down?
Who was content with a split in the TB series and talked about ho it would be a "violent" one?
The guy who makes lineup changes when things are working only to have it blow up in his face?
Where his team doesn't start on time in big games more often than not?
Who made zero adjustments on the PP as it was shyte again?
Didn't break up MM/AM again this series

Yeah guess I'm missing all of the hall of fame caliber moves/decisions he's made
