Trotz coached the Caps to a Stanlry Cup win and the Caps were more of an offesive team than defense. Trotz would adjust his system. On offense he would attack the net much better than what the leafs do and he would definitly improve the defense. Trotz has won with solely defesive teams and with offensive teams.

This .. I think it's worth a conversation.

You would have to see how Trotz would want to work with the roster.

The process of winning the cup takes longer than one season. I understand your frustration, but now is not the time to make a panic move. The more I think about it the more I am convinced nothing major will happen. Shanny loves Dubas. Keefe is Dubas’s guy. Same Mind frame. Same hockey outlook.

Someone mentioned the culture of this Leafs organization is all lovey dovey positivity crap. Pats on the back and let’s try a little harder next season type of atmosphere.

Besides we are restricted by the cap because Dubas built this team that way.

Only change will be more plugs coming in to fill up third and fourth line spots.

If you can clearly upgrade the coach, you do it.
Dubas is on record several times saying, "you try to improve at every position and add long as it makes sense, you do it" (paraphrasing)

If he wants to come here I think it would be good to have more expereince, Keefe will find a job somewhere. But who would you choose if Sullivan becomes available? I'd lean more toward him if it was possible.

Sully would be an excellent choice but I doubt the Pens are going to let him walk . The Pens know their glory days are behind them and they are looking to retool , this might be the last time we see guys like Gino and Letang on the ice in a Pens Jersey if at all so they will need Sully to groom the next team and the next coach that leads them .

Theres a little voice in the back of my head growing louder that says "Torts" should be brought in to sort the roster and retrain the mentallity of the core . As much as some players have said they hate him you would be amazed at what the top level triple A guys he has coached have to say , they all love him to death , if you are lazy , soft and making excuses he will call you out and tell it like it is , if you listen , work on what he is saying and give your heart every night you will become a better player and be part of a better team . This team kind of seems like it's time for a season or two of tough love .

I think you can change coaches as many times as you want, but with this core, nothing will change IMHO. It's having this core, greedy and all, that's keeping this team back. Too much cap is dedicated to the core 4. There is TOO little money left to surround them with support players.

We need a real #1 defense man and a true starting goalie. There IS NOT ENOUGH cap left to acquire those assets. Our RFAs and UFAs need new contacts too.

A new coach that demands a change in culture and attitude is a step towards fixing the problem you have identified , when the 10 ply princesses demand to be traded out they wave their NMC and changes can be made , same comfortable coach equals same attitude and makes no changes possible .

You don't get to tune out Torts lol , thats not even an option , Torts would bench you then describe exactly why you got benched and what you need to change publicly in the post game presser . He isn't employed because we are still paying him what was the richest contract in hockey history until June 30 2023 . Any team wanting him will have to pay us that 5.875 million plus maybe more to get him , get a clue there bud , the fact he is coaching young players again should show you that is his strength and his name does come up as returning to the NHL in discussions about every team in the NHL that is looking to make a change .

No that's not how it works , Toronto owns him until the end of his contract , It could be done that way but Toronto has to agree to split his contract like that ,the other team and Babcock can't force that to happen . He seems pretty happy working with college kids and he also did a behind the scenes stint with Vermont where he was brought in to coach the coaches not the players . We gave him 50 million US , he doesn't need a job .

Might wanna check some facts before applauding…. They’re wrong, Toronto is on the hook for every dollar below what he’s owed. The only money his new team would be paying is the difference between the leafs salary and the new one.

I like Keefe but Imo you upgrade at every position when you can and I think he's an upgrade over Keefe.
When he went to Washington I wondered if he would stifle the caps offense and how he would get along with OV, and he did stellar all over.
On the island he took mediocre and gave them some decency.
With our team and talent I think Trotz would be tickled pink to have a true #1 two-way centre and the rest of this lineup. His matchup game and in game management is top notch.
I only see upside here.

Agreed, but what about the process of getting out of the first round of the playoffs? Surely after having 3 top 7 picks with one being a 1st overall and the other being worthy of the first overall title in other draft years, you would expect to be out of the first round by now?

I've been begging for the Leafs to hire Trots for 5 years now. The problem is the Leaf brain trust think that they are just unlucky and they got everything they need to win the cup. That is a dangerous mindset.

I think Keefe is the problem.

We wont hire Trotz, Vegas will.
