Should we go for Trotz

If he was hated and the players were still playing hard, no one would care. But when they stop playing for the coach, you need to make a change. Again, Keefe isn't remotely at that point, it's not the same at all.

Again, I'm not saying we can't fire Keefe. But the Babcock situation was toxic in a very different way, the team looked like they hated hockey in his last couple games.

Win and he’s still our coach. I get every situation is different, but both coaches have failed to get us over the hump and if one cup winner was fired, why does some unproven coach get a longer leash, because he hugs Campbell?

Let’s say the past three playoffs, Leafs actually advanced past the first round, maybe even make it to the Conf Finals once. But they still could not get it done. Would the opinions be different on replacing Keefe with Trotz? The goal is the win the Cup and not to win a round. Sofar, Keefe showed he can’t do it.

Ya...when you get all excited because the cool kids said hello in the hallway....you are not even close to winning anything. I think this team doesn't have a clutch player...nobody that you can say will come through when needed. So, if you don't have that type of player, you would need the coach to be the confidence maker for the team. Someone who has won it all (NHL...not AHL) and can make them believe. Keefe is a good coach but I highly doubt teams would be chasing him if we let him go. That should be a warning sign. Saying he got so many points this year is great...but others look at the talent we have and suspect anyone half decent could get similar results.

Maybe if Trotz improves the defense but doesnt neuter the offense. Not sure if he's the best fit for the core of players the Leafs have.

Trotz has a Stanley Cup and two conference final appearances in the past 4 season. Our "offence first" core hasn't gotten past the first round. I don't care if a coach "fits our core" as long as he can teach a winning system,

You can't just throw that away. They are some of the brightest minds in the game. Cutting edge, wunderkin. The playoff answer is within the hearts of the players: we have the right people! Now execute! I give this core 2 more years, then rebuild the team with Shanahan, Dubas, and Keefe. Simple as. NO MORE DINASAURS!

Dubas just needs to recalibrate his analytics engine for playoff hockey. That was a design flaw. All good now, we saw him jot down those data points in the owners box. Pen and paper.

Trotz is far from a dinosaur. When he arrived in Washington I thought he would fail a that team was not built the way the preds were and figured his system wouldn't work there. He adapted. Then I n long Island he morphed again.
He has a keen hockey eye and mind and would put a square peg in a square hole unlike some other coaches

That said we are keeping the horses, just changing the jockey so you should be good

Trotz would want control (and for obvious reasons).

I don't foresee Dubas giving that control. However, I suspect at some point Dubas may want to win.....maybe.

It could be an ultimatum from higher up. If so then Dubas must compromise and find a new coach or get a new job somewhere else.

Makes no sense unless they can switch out parts of the core. Up to the gm to determine if they could find players that fit his style. But would be stupid to bring him in with this core.

Because it doesnt play to their strengths.

Im not opposed. But if you bring him, you definitely need to make major personnel changes too imo (also not opposed to that)

I think Trotz has shown he can adapt when going to Washington then to NYI

He's a very good coach, I don't think you're giving him enough credit.
He will coach to the teams strengths and improve on them.
