I'd hope the team was on their toes already with 2-6-2 in their last ten games or whatever it is!

I'd start Kinkaid at this point with Moose having maybe one good outing out of six but Pete's not going to, especially if Marty's back on Tuesday.

At this point, it's clear Hedberg is not playing like the Hedberg we've seen.

He's been struggling and has started five (?) straight games. Give the kid a shot, we need some kind of spark and Hedberg clearly hasn't given it to us, so why not let Kinkaid try?

I would like to change my vote please. If Marty is not back KinKaid should be given a chance. Moose is not the moose we all know right now.

I think everyone's changing their vote after today lol. Moose looked like he needed a walker on that goal in the third period, and the shootout goals.

If he doesn't start playing better, you gotta wonder if amnesty is a possibility.

Man you guys are being really tough on Hedberg. Aside from the shootout, in which he has been horrific, Moose hasn't been as bad as people are making him out to be. In the last two games, the team coud have used a timely save from him at certain points, but having him take the fall for all of the goals isn't fair. The goalie is the last line of defense. There are multiple lines before it and the team has let him down just as much recently.

I'm really interested to see what KK can bring to the table, but now is not the time. All things considered, Hedberg has given NJ a chance to win these last few games he has played. They have been in all of them minus the Jets home game. Even the blowouts to the Islanders and Caps were close games before it went off the rails in two minutes.

I'm a huge Hedberg fan and he's been awful since starting off the season strong. He has overplayed a lot of pucks and looks like a ghost in the shootout.

Hedberg used to be almost as good as Marty in the shootout too, just look at his career numbers.

I say give Kinks a shot. Here's why:

-Hedberg has not exactly been lighting it up lately.
-Kinkaid needs to get his first game some time. Why not now?
-It might shake the team up in a good way. They might play a little sharper knowing there's a new guy in net.
-I am a big believer in giving prospects a taste of the NHL, even if they aren't ready for full-time duty. That way, when they go back to the minors they have a better idea of what level they need to be playing at.
-What's the worst that could happen? We lose a game? That could happen anyway.

It would be one thing if the team was playing a little sharper but right now they're a little too leaky for my liking tbh, and I don't see a rookie goalie getting them on their toes. You don't want a young kid getting his first experience with a team ******** the bed in front of him. Take today for example. Hedberg s getting so much heat but he still came up with some big saves. How many times did the Devils fail to cover the slot?

I still can't **** on Hedberg. He have them a chance today (less the shootout) NJ is just making far too many brain farts out there.

People are putting way too much on Moose for this loss. The third goal he should have had, he gotta cover the whole post better, but the shorthanded goal was just a pathetic, disgusting display of laziness by Kovy. Makes me mad just thinking about it. If Tedenby cheated like that he would be benched for three thousand games, and if Gaborik did it we would all laugh and say what a weak player he is.

haha yup. It was about a 6 vote gap, now it's up to 30 and people who already voted want to change to 'start Kincaid'. If Marty's not back for the next game, start Kincaid.

BTW, do we have a nickname for Kincaid yet? Something like Kinky or Caider?

I don't think many people are blaming Moose for the first two goals, but they're definitely blaming him for the third and the shootout. Combine that with all the stupid mistakes he's made over the last couple of weeks and you have a pattern of bad play.

I'm not saying get rid of him, I'm saying give him one game off and see how the team responds.

Nah I don't think so. Are you allowed to use one on a 35+ year old anyway? The bottom line is Hedberg is a backup. A career backup at that. He was a starter for the first year of his career, and that's it. One year it looked like he split or got about 40 percent of starts in Atlanta. Hedberg looked orgasmic last season when Marty went down for the first week. Stole us a few low scoring games a couple times in the shootout. Had that shutout in LA, then started looking like a backup that needed to fill in again before Marty got back. He continued to play very well in sporadic starts too.

Remember some of you guys wanted Clemmensen back last year too. Maybe that was the comments on TG's blog, so forgive me if it was. He's been the worst goaltender in every statistic this year in the league. Save percentage, GAA. I mean I do remember here on HF a couple of you guys wanted JOKOUN also! Anyone see his last couple starts in Pittsburgh?

No way. He was great to start the season, but he isn't used to getting this much playing time plus the Devils have been crap recently. He'll be fine. I am confident Marty is the ultimate equalizer. It really wouldn't be worth it anyway.

I miss Marty :(

Anthony Brodeur tweeted about it being weird that he was able to watch a Devils game with his dad... at home. I wonder how Marty felt to be sitting at home and seeing the team continue to struggle for these last few games. Must be insanely frustrating.

Is it confirmed Marty won't make the trip to Toronto?

Moose needs a rest that is it. Still love him as a back up, just want Marty back starting the majority of games.

I just hope he's back to normal. Last year he was real rusty when he got back. That Toronto game in November? Before he made that unbelievable stick save on Kessel in the 3rd, he was letting everything in.

Other than that he's arguably been the teams MVP this year, and we haven't won a damn game since he's been out. It's confirmed he won't make the trip to Toronto though.

This shows though we've really missed Marty. He's still a top 10 goalie in this league for sure, and the way he's played the last year should back that up. **** all those ''Vokoun, and Cam Ward are top 10 goalies, but Brodeur is not!'' people. For ****s sake people really believe this?:shakehead

Right now the struggles go beyond goaltending. In the end it's irrelevant, who's starting in net, if the team can´t afford to allow more than one goal.

I think Hedberg should start against the Leafs. Sure, he hasn't played up to his standards, but right now the situation isn't right to throw in Kinkaid, who is still at least a year away from getting a regular NHL job. He should get his cup of coffee soon, I agree, but this is not the time.

An experienced vet like Hedberg is a far better, mentally stronger option to play behind a team that has little confidence and is struggling to show up for 60 minutes, let alone to score more than two goals.

Who the hell is saying that crap? Vokoun has looked horrid recently, and Wardo is still good for his fair share of stinkers too. Vokoun gave up 6 goals tonight, I mean jesus even Moose hasn't been that bad. Lucky for Pitt, Price was worse. REally is shocking how bad the Atlantic is this year.

I understand your reasoning but the point is if we're not going to throw Kinky out there for his first start, then WHEN exactly are we? Even if Kinky starts and the devils lose, with the way Moose has been playing(or not playing) you think the results would be any different other than a loss?

Throw the kid in there so we can see if he sinks or can swim. We need a spark...BADLY.

Moose has had PLENTY of chances since Marty went on the IR to pick this team up and hasn't been able to do so.

As Owen Hart(RIP) once said, "Enough is Enough! And it's Time For A Change!"
