Pinto’s interview was so great because at this crappy fan time it’s important to hear from someone how important the Ottawa Senators are and how much people care. Pinto cares, Alfie cares, Poulin cares, the fans care.

We all love the Ottawa Senators!

They could sign him to his QO for this season, and then sign a separate long-term extension. Otherwise, it might be difficult to fit in his cap on year 1 of a long-term extension.

A mid-term extension likely comes in at 3M-4M.

Of course, they could always go 7-8 years if they really like the player. In which case, I don't think he gets 8 like everybody else. The only reason to go that long is if he is willing to lock himself in at a really favourable cap hit, like 5M-6M.
Should we really make an 8 year bet on Pinto at this point?

I would at the right price. But Pinto is going to end up an $8 million player in FA. I’d compare him to Elias Lindholm who’s going to sign for Timmy money this summer

Yes, he's going to be a great player, but I'm not sure how much he is worth at this point, maybe somewhere north of $6M. He's good at faceoffs, plays a 200' game is very good defensively & he can put up pts as we saw in his rookie yr. He can play on both special teams & has a great shot from the circles.

Welcome back Pinto, we missed you! At $775K he is no longer a cap concern. Hopefully he plays well to deserve a fatter cheque next season.

So which of Kelly, Chartier, or MacEwen gets sent to Belleville when he comes back (Technically, I think with Forsberg on LTIR we don't need to)

Wonder if pinto wants to lock in an extension immediately or waits out the season. Because if the Sens start playing better now he will have some leverage
Get it done while he's still feeling guilty? LOL.

Bit of a log jam at center: Norris, Pinto, Grieg. Stu is #1.

He's that good, and will move into our top six ultimately. It will be reasonable value next year, and a steal starting year 2.

He's a better player than Norris.

We all said the same about Norris being our 1C for the next century after the 35 goals season

Please wait and see how he does

Yeah, I’m all for locking him up while the vibes are good and he’s feeling thankful towards the team :)

From the horses mouth he also got a career scare and I bet he’s all in to remove some of that fear and sign long term.

Makes a ton of sense long term, especially since most of our term deals look decent to good so far and the cap is going to go up significantly making those deals even better.

The best outcome of the best friends locker room may be the financial buy in from the kids long term.

Someone should DM Capfriendly and ask if there is anything stopping both sides from signing an extension right away. Technically, he is in the last year of this contract and it is after January 1st.

I am not sure if his QO was technically still on the table.

Another thing that would be interesting to know is how his cap will be calculated. Given that he wasn't paid for the first 41 games, was a 10.2(c) RFA, and the Senators weren't trying to game the cap by waiting to sign him, I wonder if they have any sort of agreement or mechanism for his cap hit to not be doubled. Meaning, the Sens can send down another 775k player and that makes room for Pinto.
