I'm joking but maybe not, one of those bookies probably went to the Sens and was like, "Hey, one of your guys owes us... What you gonna do about it?"

Now my question is, is it a 1 off thing. For instance a team dr lets it slip to a buddy that the whole team has a raging case of the shits and that buddy slaps down some money against the team. Or is it a case of a pattern of bets that would indicate Pinto was aware he was supplying inside info.
Depends on the punishment model

If he did it 1 or 5 times - first offence is first offence?

Or is it cumulative and you can compound severity based on duration

More valuable Pinto rn:

Who you got?

I find it hilarious that the NHL suspends their own players of gambling OTHER sports while investing in BILLIONS of dollars in the compulsive gambling industry.
They didn't, it was NHL related. The CBA allows NHL players to bet on other sports.

I have no idea what is going on here, but it sounds very interesting, involving a network of information sharing/proxy betting, and if so I'd guess there is no way Shane Pinto is the only NHLer / Professional Athlete / Collegiate Athlete that is doing this.

What a joke. Let’s advertise gambling every 2 minutes to kids and ban our players for gambling on OTHER sports.
this feels like a problem that is only going to get worse as kids who grew up watching hockey games full of sports gambling ads make their way into the league

IMO to see the 41 games, this HAS to be 5 or more times. There is no way this is a case of Pinto talking too much and a buddy making bets. At least thats what I am getting out of the severity of the suspension.

I think probably what happened is that Pinto placed bets on games while at a Senators practice complex or something like that, which is a huge issue with gambling rules. The NFL has strict rules about gambling at team facilities even if it’s not on NFL games, it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s what happened here.

Could have just been Pinto consistently feeding inside information to a buddy who was placing bets.

To get 41 games I'm guessing it had to be more serious than an innocent conversation where Pinto unknowningly let private information slip.

Pure speculation but I'm guessing he was knowingly providing information to a friend but wasn't getting any financial benefit himself (i.e., being paid for information or proxy betting). If it was an innocent mistake he's probably not getting 41 games. If it was true proxy betting he's probably getting a lot worse than just a suspension.

I’m pretty sure “unusual activity” is Sportsbook code for “He was winning too much and that’s against the rules.”
That's exactly it. If he was getting hosed every bet the sports book shuts up and keeps taking his money.

Yeah that for sure must happen constantly now that I think about it. Just consider all the athletes that participate in college football. Didn't mean to imply it's a conspiracy, just that whatever he's doing I doubt he's the only one to ever think of it.

for a cut???? thats the key.
For all we know Shane is an idiot and may not even realize he was spilling the beans and his buddy could have been betting behind his back. However if Shane was getting a cut of the winnings then thats no good and he deserves the 41 or more.
