Some serious underrating for Scheifele here... Have any of you seen this kids snap shot? Absolutely ridiculous, could be top 10 in the league, and he scored at a 70 point pace last year. Scheifele over Toews no matter the situation IMO. This is also coming from a Habs fan who is very high on Toews and i'm expecting a big bounce back year.

And enough with the cup ring stuff... Seriously there are over 20 players on every team lol

Toews is better player now.

Scheif will be likely just as good or better soon, makes way less money and is younger. There is no reason for the Jets to do this when we are not going to win right away. Is this really so hard to comprehend?

I think it's extremely hard to comprehend that Scheif is likely going to be as good or better than Toews at any point in his career.

In a potential trade involving these two players, it's not about who would be the better player over the entirety of their career: it would be about who is going to be the more valuable piece going forward from today. Toews is the better player now: in 3 years, will that still be the case?

In 20 years, a look back would very likely show Toews as being the better player. This means nothing to a team like the Jets, who need to look at their current roster, and their likely window for competing. When you factor this into the discussion, trading for an older Toews on a very large contract simply makes no sense, even if he is the better player NOW.

It's less a player evaluation, and more an evaluation of what the teams will need in a few years.

Come on now. We can't think about anything else than value around here. That's just how it goes.

fair to compare schiefeles best NHL to season to Toews worst?

Toews was coming off a 76 pt season at the same age and already had a cup ring and conne smythe trophy.

toews is more of a 65-75pt guy (.87ppg in both reg. season and playoffs). the 58 pt year was a down year by his standards even with the 2nd most votes for the selke.

When my original comment was that Scheifele was arguably better than Toews LAST season, then yes that's very fair to compare last season...

If I was another team, let's say a team that made the playoffs last year, and I had scheifele on my team, I would trade him in a heartbeat for Johnathan towes.

If I was the Colorado avalanche and I had scheifele on my team I would not trade him for Johnathan towes.

Value definitely favours towes. That's not being debated by anyone.

But when that value is being extracted does not make it a good trade for Winnipeg

toews was a selke candidate. surely that makes up for the 3 pt difference?

I can see terrible eams like the leafs, jets, nucks etc taking the potential of scheifele over the contract and track record of toews, but there is 0% a good team would take him over toews right now.

Toews added to a good team almost ensures a cup win.

Oh wait what? That is exactly what happened. Are you so lazy that you chose to make an argument without even fact checking?

WPGS would kill to have a Toews, there is no way they would decline.

I didn't know Kevin Cheveldayoff frequented this fourm? Amazing!

And now you understand why the Jets would rather Scheifele over Toews, as has been articulated many times in this thread. The Jets are not ready to contend yet, and one 28 year old Selke nominee center won't make up that difference.

1. Toews wasn't a Selke candidate last season.

2. The Hawks were a good team last season, they didn't make it past the first Rd.

3. Scored 3 more points in 9 less games.
he scored more pts...he wasnt 2nd in selke though.

Either was Toews...

Besides colorado has already 2 star centers that are better than Scheifele so acquiring him would be meaningless
