I've been looking at our roster and kinda trying to comprehend us to other roster. Honestly I don't think we're really going to be as bad as people think. But I do think we desperately need a top 6 center. As it sits right now are 2 top centers are Filak and Wainwright. Both of them won less then 200 faceoffs last year. And honestly are pick situation isn't as bad as I thought. We currently have 3x 2nds 3x 3rds and 3x 4ths.

I think there's a lot up in the air to determine what we are. I don't mind our defense but I question how they'll fit as a unit, especially with their inexperience. But I am a fan of them individually. Hoover's health will be big. We need him healthy all year. I think we'll be very good at transitioning, passing, skating on D.

Up front I don't hate what we have but a lot comes down to Lominac, Kukumberg, LeBlanc. Can they be three 20 goal scorers? If so we actually shouldn't be to bad with Filak, Wainwright, Sikic, Vilmanis as guys we should be able to rely on. Doherty, Hall we'll see how they developed. Not expecting a ton from Brown/Sim & whatever other rooks make it.

In net one would hope Gaudreau is a man on a mission to earn himself a contract. No reason as an OA for him not to be a really good goalie. I believe in Chartier, but obviously he's gotta prove it at the OHL level.

It wouldn't shock me if we push for 6th which for many would be a shock, but I also wouldn't be floored if we missed the playoffs. As I said there's a lot of stuff in the air.

I was looking around to see what guys could possibly come back this year and it looks like there's a good chance we could get Kyrou back

Dallas stars have signed him and he’s an elite offensive defenceman, I can’t see him returning for his OA season at all. He will be playing in the AHL. This upcoming season.

Preseason rosters out. Kinda surprised we're still sitting on 3 goalies.

If gaudreau is back which I think he might be, I wouldn’t be surprised if Chartier plays junior B near by and then they trade Gaudreau at the deadline and bring Chartier up full time then.

If I were the Sting Chartier would be the backup. He's the future in net. Surzycia is 19 & even tho I love his compete he's just an average backup.

Let Karsen learn from Ben a bit then once we trade Gaudreau assuming Chartier is ready he gets to be the starter down the stretch which sets him up to be our #1 next yr in his 18 yr old season.

Wouldn’t say he’s the future, hasn’t done enough to prove he can be the next starter.

Not sure about you guys, but this has been a season I've frankly struggled immensely to get up/excited for. Mainly because I've never struggled to get over a playoff loss like this past one. Just so hard to come back down after the high & the expectations last year's team brought, had & ultimately fell short of.

I said it then & I remain in full agreement with them going all-in. As always, after going for it, the repercussions suck. I do think this team could surprise & push for 6th-7th, but I also could easily see them being 9th or 10th.

As of now, I honestly don't see a core group you can confidently say you can see being a championship level core down the road. Not fair at all to the players it's just hard to at the moment. Not a ton of elite skill or elite upside past a few guys, maybe.

Gonna be a big year to find out what the next core of the team is & if it's one that has that potential for 2-3 yrs down the road or if this is gonna be a lengthy, lengthy rebuild.

Hoping this team can become an exciting one with all the youth because I need a jolt of energy to get going again honestly.

Imagine it all starts next week.

I'm still pretty optimistic.

I think if we could move Surzycia,Young,Campbell and Sikic for some extra picks.

Bring in a OA D like a Mayer and a top 6 center. Like an Abraham cause Windsor is in a rebuild considering they have almost no picks.

I think if we could bring in two guys like that we could have a pretty good team.

Then the lineup could look something like this.

Lablanc/Abraham/Vilmanis/
Kukumberg/Filak/Wainwright
Brown/Way/Lominac/
Doucette/Hall/Doherty/

Extras Sim, maybe Degelas

On D
Fisher/Mayer/
Omeri/Lablanc/
Hurt/Hoover/

Extras Barr,Macdonald

I would love to see this lineup personally

Well training camp starts next week. Be interesting to see who may get signed out of camp. All I know is it will probably be a 17 or 18 year old. Considering we already have 4 16 year Olds signed.

Hard to say if anybody gets signed. They have all their D. A kid would have to really stand out to make the team on the backend. Same with in net.

Up front they likely have most spots filled too & the ones that aren't will be fought over by guys like Sim, Degelas, Soares, Harper etc.

But there always seems to be one UFA kid who makes an impression. See if any can this yr.

maybe hes an invite, but harper was released around the draft, they dont have his rights anymore.

im genuinely curious on the stings rebuild, unlike peterbourough im not sure how they re-capture all those picks they spent, they dont have a smith, beck to move.

It's going to a multi year sell off. They can probably get a couple picks for Vilmanis. Same for Sikic. Maybe someone wants to spend a pick or 2 on Gaudreau. Then next year maybe they move Wainwright. Filak could be a good OA option for someone in 24/25. It's going to very piecemeal in nature. That won't get everything back, but would likely be the way to maximize return based on what they have now.

ya, i just dont see how they will be 'made whole' so to speak, refill all the picks they have lost. gaudreau probably is the best asset they have, and like simpson in peterborough, he may be worth a 3rd and a 5th?

Ahh thanks for that. I figured he would but never know with him being local if he wanted to stay home.

We aren't as depleted as I think you think we are. Don't get me wrong we certainly aren't filled to the rim with picks or anything. But we have all of our 2nds the next 5 years except one which is in 2026.

We are missing two 3rds that hopefully we get back for Vilmanis/Gaudreau/Sikic. I also think Filak is a guy who could draw great interest come the deadline as a 19 yr old. Great 2 way/chippy playoff type guy who can produce in your middle 6.

Only missing one 4th. Have no 5ths or 6ths but those wouldn't be overly hard to replace/find & if we can't it's not the end of the world.

But we certainly are in for a multi yr rebuild. Known that from the start. As u said we don't have that high end guy to get 5 picks. Best case is we get maybe one * maybe* two 2nd, couple 3rds, some 4ths for Vilmanis/Gaudreau/Sikic/Filak/Hoover & maybe one of the LeBlanc twins has a decent jump if they're willing to be split up.

Obviously theres a chance Gaudreau doesn't improve & nobody wants him. Sikic stays as he is & no team would want to spend more than a 5th on that as an OA. Maybe Filak doesn't take much of a jump & his value remains mediocre. Do think Vilmanis will be very coveted by teams with an open import. He *should* be PPG & pretty dominant. Not sure if a 2nd is realistic unless he's really going off, but I'd hope for maybe a 3+5 type return.

where did you see that about the 2nds? according to the ohl database (not the google doc) you have..

2024 - no 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th,
2025 - no 2nd (but probably back from ottawa) no third, no 4th (but probably give nback) no 5th, no 6th
2026 - no 2nd, no 3rd, no 4th, no 5th

The Google doc haha. The Moldenhauer trade we sent a cond. 2nd + 3rd to OTT in the 2024 draft then 2nd+3rd+4th in 2025 draft.

We should get all those back as he clearly isn't coming to the O & we wouldn't of been able to trade them as they were tied to him.

Obviously I could be mistaken. U have more insight into this stuff than I do haha.

From what I can tell (could be wrong) we haven't traded our 2nds/3rds in trades outside those Cond that we should get back. Didn't in any of the deals this past yr.

Interesting thing I noticed when looking at the preseason roster. Seems Sean Doherty ('22 3rd rounder) has grown quite a bit. He's listed at 6'1" and 182 lbs. Was listed at 5'10" and 175 by the Legionnaires last season

He's definitely one of the guys I'm more intrigued to see at camp. I thought at times he showed some real good things last yr. His last cup of OHL hockey at the end of the season I thought he looked drastically better than just 2-3 months prior.

Has all the tools to be a really good PT producer in the O. Especially if he's grown like it's listed. Great skater, good hands, solid shot, creative. Should get a big opportunity.

Be really interesting to see Lominac & what he's all about. See what type of step Hall took same with the twins. Wainwright had another huge summer in the gym. Think everyone knows how big a fan of his I am. Hoping to see another big jump for him.

On D I'm a big, big fan of Young. If he had a good summer I think he'd catch a ton of ppl by surprise. I'm most excited to see Omeri. Had such a great yr & I know Sarnia pushed hard to sign him as he had other options.

Chartier in net I want to see. Heard a lot of good things about him & his development. I was really impressed by Gillis at rookie camp so I'll be intrigued to see him at camp.

Wish we released the full roster like other teams have. Hate how we always seem to do less then most when it comes to things like that.

the 2024 2nd rounder was part of the kyrou trade accounting to the league database. i looked it up, it looks to be correct

Sarnia’s 4th Round Pick in 2023, 2nd Round Pick in 2024, 3rd Round Pick in 2026; Oshawa’s 2nd Round Pick in 2025; and Niagara’s 5th Round Picks in 2026.
