So he has four (?) points since January 22nd?

Funny, he doesn't show up on the scoring sheet for today's game though. If he did score, and they missed it, I think he has six points in the last seven games now.

I guess KHL website's English version is being updated with a delay, it is there in the Russian version. So since January 22nd he has 3G+2A in 6 games.

If he can keep that pace for the rest of the season, maybe he has a NHL future afterall...

Probably still no rumours of him coming over eh? Thought maybe with Dubas over there to watch him a while back there might have been some chatter.

After coming close to signing last year, Korshkov’s finally crossing over.

6’5” PWF who shoots left is exactly what the Leafs are lacking up front.

I actually thought he was a good draft reach from the Leafs despite being an overager. He was the best Russian along Provorov in WJC 2016 and he had also been KHL regular for the previous 1,5 seasons. A decent mid-six player in the making.

Now almost three years later he is still a third liner in the KHL. Okay, he was injured for the majurity of this season but second liner is the best he's been during these years. Maybe he just peaked early and can't find a new gear on his development anymore? Or maybe he just needs a change of scenery to find that gear. Russian coaches can be very old school with their strict attitude and prefer to play veterans instead of prospects in key roles.

I honestly don't know what to expect from Korshkov in the Leafs organisation but I will follow his progress with great interest. At least he has proven to be a fine grinder in bottom-6 so maybe 4th line winger is his worst case scenerio.

Well, we'll now see how he does in NA. I think it's clear that he's not going to be a top 6 forward at this point, but if he can use his size to his advantage maybe he could end up as a physical bottom 6 player in the NHL one day.

I'd rather have him in the lineup than useless players like Gauthier or Brown.

You say that, but what has he done to show he won't be a worse player than they are? I doubt he puts up better AHL or NHL numbers than Brown did in his first year. And I question whether he can have the same defensive success that Gauthier had in the AHL playing a shutdown role.

It's easy to point to bad players who we've had years to watch and pick apart and say that he'll be better than them. In reality though, he may not be even close to an NHL level player.

Entered the KHL as a 17 year old and has since played over 200 games (reg. + playoffs) in the second best professional league in the world.

What has he done? Well, for reference (pulling this from the Leafs sub), by 22 years old:

  • Panarin recorded 50 goals in 209 games over 5 seasons, or 0.24 G/GP.
  • Korshkov recorded 24 goals in 172 games over 5 seasons, or .14 G/GP.

Now, looking at point totals after their first 5 seasons:
  • Korshkov - 0.378 PPG
  • Panarin - 0.385 PPG

If you adjust for 2 years post-draft, which might be more accurate given Panarin was 16/17 in his first small sample size year, then it looks like:

  • Panarin put up 50 regular season points, in 93 games.
  • Korshkov put up 45 regular season points, in 88 games.

Korshkov has also played on Lokomotiv for his entire career, which is typically a lower scoring team, whereas Panarin played for Vityaz/SKA. He's also suffered from several major injuries that derailed his seasons, such as a broken leg and shoulder injury. You have to factor in rehabilitation and recovery in to his stat line.

Those stat comparables are just to illustrate how difficult it is to produce in the KHL at such a young age. Korshkov and Panarin aren't really comparable at all, as Korsh plays a more straight line PWF game around his size. I think there is a lot of reason to be excited for a top 9 forward who was picked just outside of the 1st round a couple years ago.

Korshkov-Matthews-Nylander is an interesting possibility, hopefully we see it at training camp this fall.

why compare him to panarin? panarins stats were nothing special until he was 22 where his numbers shot up. late bloomer kind of.

similar to comparing a barely over ppg in their 19-20 year old seasons to jamie benn just because he broke out late as well.

I think that poster just meant how scoring in the KHL or lack thereof is kinda misleading. We don't really know what we have in him until he comes over and plays in the AHL.

Yeah, it's a completely pointless comparison.

Could certainly use some size and physicality in the bottom 6. If he can provide that on an ELC while chipping in the odd goal he could be a valuable asset during this immediate cap crunch. We'll see how he fares in the AHL playoffs.
