RW Yegor Korshkov - Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, KHL (2016, 31st, TOR, traded to CAR)

I mean about the immediate jump to the Marlies - to do that you need to pretty well know what you're doing already at that point, as you need to settle visa, existing contract and other stuff in a pretty good tempo.
Okay makes me feel better haha. He's probably exhausted from the long year. If he did come great but I don't blame him for wanting to rest.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt here. Perhaps he realises that it's in his best interest to stay in Russia, sort out the paper work and get a good amount of rest and a head start to the off-season. Next year is very crucial for Leafs top prospects because there could be as many as two wing spots opening on the big club and Korshkov is one of the Leafs prospects who could potentially make a jump straight into the NHL.

That said, it would be nice if he spends the summer in TO with the Leafs elite training staff and facilities. I think it could go a long way for him to not only get ready for next season but also familiarise himself with the life style of TO.

As a Leafs fan, I’m assuming he’ll never play a game for us. If I’m wrong, and he becomes an NHL regular for the Leafs, great! But he seems pretty far from that at the moment, seems safest to assume it won’t ever happen.

yeah not a banner pick that high in the draft. perhaps he can still be salvaged, as the Leafs will need cheap forwards in their bottom 6 in the coming years.

I listed a bunch of disappointments, not successes. It's a bummer that Korshkov isn't a slam-dunk of a pick, but the odds of picking a good player in the 20's and 30's is worse than a coin toss.

The issue was that he was a reach. Russian overager without crazy stats at 31 is a strange pick unless you're convinced he's the next big thing and is going to be taken before your next pick. I have a hard time anyone other than Hunter had him ranked in the top 70.

At least if we took an obvious selection like Hart or DeBrincat and they ended up busting, it's easier to say "we did the right thing and it didn't go our way this time".

I'd rather that the scouts have the guts to swing for the fences than worry about consensus and "I told you so"'s. Sebastian Aho was ranked outside the top75 (Honorable Mention) on McKenzie's 2015 list, but Carolina reached for him and nabbed a real good player.

But really, the point is that teams shouldn't be comparing their prospect to the field because there will always be a better guy picked later. Carter Hart was picked 48th and could be a top10 player from the draft, that doesn't mean that 25 other teams should be crucifying their scouts. The other team's steals will always make your players look bad and that's not a good form of evaluation.

So is he signing this year?
The Leafs might review his status after dealing woth their cap. Once they know who they decide to sign, trade and let walk they can think about a big bottom six guy out of Russia they once drafted.

Korshkov is actually massive. He might be closer to 6'6 than he is 6'4 by the looks of it.

Have a really good feeling about him next year and I think he jumps straight in to the NHL. Looks a lot like JVR with better wheels.
