As far as I know, he was born here and has played in the KalPa organization his whole career since his family has such close ties to the team. Could be wrong though.
Oh wow! No offence, but you actually had no idea his father played 800+ games in NHL? :help:

I do know that. However all the sources I found indicated that his son was born in Kuopio and played junior hockey with KalPa. If you mean no offense, please don't make baseless assumptions with facepalm emotes.

I don't think there is any need for pointless emoticons if someone is making an honest assumption about certain question unless you feel the need to ridicule that person. What comes to the question, you didn't even provide an answer. We aren't talking about his father so do you have it for a fact that Kasperi was living with him in NA while he was growing up or maybe being raised in Finland? Would make sense, but still, the statement isn't providing anything that anyone doesn't already know.

The answers were already provided in some of the earlier posts. I just found it very confusing that someone would assume a Finnish player wouldn't have his family overseas with him. Sure is could be possible, but I have no examples of that ever happening with anyone, who played 10+ years in North America. Kasperi was born in July during the offseason, so that's why he was born in Finland.

Kasperi speaks perfect American English which should be the most obvious clue about his earlier years. Also in this interview he says he lived in Philly for 6 years:

PS. I admit being a Jack*** in my earlier post.

Kapanen did not look good in the usa game. He has been great this year, but he seems lost in the national team. Loses the puck too much. He has plenty of time to improve and avoid an awful tournament like the u18 one.

Well, it is widely rumoured that he is playing with an injury though that has not been confirmed officially.

Perhaps, but it looked like more of a conditioning issue to me. Looked winded and a step behind much of the time (maybe illness?)

Looked awful against Slovakia too. 2 very uninterested, very lackadaisical performances so far from him

Yep, pure trash so far.

Kid needs to get engaged - hopefully getting booted off the 1st PP will give him a kick in the ass. He keeps coasting around waiting for other players to get him the puck.

Sweet goal for Kapanen in the loss to Sweden.

Ended on a high note, but too little too late. Only had 8 shots or so the entire tournament, and looked overwhelmed much of the time.

IMO, seems like a bust in the making. Fortunately, team FIN has an ample amount of competition for the right wing so he won't be missed in the NT comps.

i think some people underrate the level of play in the wjhc. 17 and 18 year olds cant be expected to be great players in this tournament, even ones picked in the first round.

An awful, awful showing at the WJC this year. I really hope this is the worst level of play we see from him. I believe he can be better than this.

Maybe people need to keep expectation down.

He was drafted 22nd overall....not a top 5 pick.

He has all the tools. Elite speed and shot. That's why people expects lot from him. There's no reason he shouldn't be a good goal scorer in NHL if he can put it together. There's a reason he was ranked #1 from Europe at one point before the draft.

I'm not concerned at all about his poor showing at the WJC. It's not like McDavid had a good tournament either. I put much more stock into his good to great season in the Liiga than 5 games on a weak Finland team.

Yeah Kapanen is having great season. Also tbh Kapanen and Lehkonen didn't have a center that could distribute the puck well enough. Mustonen is good middle-six center at this level but shouldn't be near 1st line. Lehkonen with busted knee(or something) had better wjc last year with Teravainen centering him.
