Funny how no one talks about this kid whatsoever on this page.

What a game from him though in his professional debut.

His professional debut was in the season 2012-2013 when he played 13 games in the Finnish elite league. After that he have played two full seasons in FEL, so last game was nowhere near his professional debut.

Hopefully, he can be more consistent than he was in Liiga this year.

Lets not forget that the Finnish Liiga is also a professional league.

It's definitely easier to score points in AHL. I expect ppg pace from Kapanen.

I think there's something we have overlooked about Kasperi. Bar his late teens, he is basically born and bred in the US. I think this affects him in how he carries himself, as a teen in a place he doesnt feel comfortable in (Finland) with the extra attention of the Kapanen name, expectation of a first round pick - Kasperi goes a bit into his shell, and doesn't come out as good as he is.

In the US, he feels more comfortable, English is probably what he thinks in, easier for him to identify - his name while being hockey aristocracy isn't that big a deal, there are many other first rounders, second rounders near him - he doesn't feel as cramped and is more confident, comfortable, and it shows on the scoresheet.

I expect for maybe 5 years Kasperi will be a good NHL player and disappoint in the Finnish national team, until he sort of grows up, gets more comfortable (out of teenage awkwardness) and then starts to play good for the national team as well.

No qualifications to say this though, part from having lived a significant portion of my teenage years abroad and had a difficult time getting adjusted back to life in Finland,

I think his lull after the first 20 games that carried into the WJCs and up until the last handful of games in SM-Liiga was probably injury-related.

I remember being in a bar in Kuopio after a KalPa-Blues game when Kasperi was 16 and upon entering he was just mugged with adoration. The Kapanen name truly is royalty in Kuopio. (FWIW he was there because Sami does a live post-game radio show from the bar)

That undoubtedly will feed any teenager's ego. As much as I love KalPa and Kuopio, a year in WBS will do far more for his game than a year in KalPa specifically for the off-ice side of things. He needs to be something of a 'normal' teenager for once. In WBS he'll just be a semi-anonymous kid, not the son of the local legend/team savior.

That goal he scored last night reminded me of watching him earlier that day...on the U-18 squad he was skating circles around everyone else on the ice and had the puck on a string.

like FEL is not professional league. :shakehead

Even these teenagers make decent money these days in FEL at young age. It's professional league.

Big problem in Finland was that he wasn't getting the puck on his stick at full speed very often. Was kinda standing around at the blueline. Hopefully he can improve on that as his speed is his best asset.

Well, I'd argue finnish teams play more coordinated hockey defensively than AHL teams. Also most of the AHL teams dont know Kapanen that well yet.

Personally I have been surprised how well Kapanen has played for such a young age. He has progressed nicely. As long as he keeps taking his lessons from his father he should be fine though. S.Kapanen was great player.

Not for everyone.

Teuvo Teravainen and Ryan Lasch scored at considerably higher rates in SM-Liiga than in the AHL. Some players have games translate better than others.

That's true, but meant it more as FEL is pretty defensive oriented compared to AHL. For example Kapanen's team scored 2.2 goal per game and his AHL team has scored 2.7 goals per game. So I expect Kapanen to produce better in AHL.

I'm talking about his NA pro debut, obviously.

I think his game will be better in NA rather than a slower methodical European game.

6GP 4G 1A 5PTS so far. Looks like he's providing some nice scoring depth to a strong team.

Kapanen, Marner, Nylander wow

They need a Sean Monahan type big centre now
