Marchand - 6.1M.....................69 pts
Huberdeau - 5.9M...................61 pts.
Perron - 4M.............................58 pts.
Panarin - 11.6M.......................58 pts.
Guentzel - 6M..........................57 pts.
Debrincat - 6.4M.....................56 pts.
Landeskog - 7M.......................52 pts.
Pacioretty - 7M........................51 pts.
Kaprizov - 9M?......................51 pts.
Connor - 7.142M..................... 50 pts.
Gaudreau - 6.75M...................49 pts.

I don't see why Kaprizov is worth substantially more than the above players. Only one, Panarin(he, Bobrovsky, and Kaprizov have the same agent), makes more than the suggested 9M. No one else comes even close, despite having far fuller NHL resumes. I don't see how Guerin can possibly justify paying KK 9M.

Kaprizov was 3+6 in 13 games before they added Zucc to him. He was 24+18 in 42 games after that. That's considering he still was rookie, Zucc while good wasn't a star, and the third player on their line was usually not good enough even for the 4th line.

So basically he was a PPG player for major part of the regular and one of the top scorers of the league. All this with pretty inferior support and being rookie.

Laine is nothing but his shot.

Kaprizov is a human highlight real.

Watching players can help.
Way to contradict yourself in one post :biglaugh:

Kaprizov is great. Laine is, in the right system and team, a top 5 goal scorer in the NHL. He's also a great passer and pretty good hitter. There's is lots of upside to both.

What does Laine have to do with Kaprizov? Lol....Kaprizov is already a better player and highlight reel almost every game. He will (if healthy) be worth every dime over the next 5 years....it just sucks that this was such an awful process getting him signed to a contract that will probably end up being 15% too high. So what, not my money.

I'd pump my breaks a bit on that, Laine is only 23 a full year younger than Kaprizov. While you're correct that Laine is mostly just about his shot, he's also 6'5", he's still got time to figure out how to use that size.

Not only has he not gotten better, he's gotten markedly worse. He would have to improve quite a lot just to get back to where he was, so yeah Kaprizov is WAY better.

You're correct he did, but is that a system issue or player issue? Laine exploded as an 18 year old and again as a 19 year then declined. Could be a maturity issue, or could be a system issue. It's not a talent issue.

Dude, most of those except Patches are considered value contracts. Marchand and Huberdeau both signed those deals before they became PPG players. Barclay Goodrow just got 3.6 x 6. Kaprizov has looked like a superstar in his short time in the NHL. The Wild are paying him like a franchise player because that's what he is.
Kaprizov is a one way winger who was 22nd in scoring in the NHL last year. He has played 55 NHL games. Dismissing all the other contracts as "value" contracts strikes me as odd. I didn't cherry pick them. Those are the LW's who finished either above or at KK's point scoring pace last year. Many of them have had extended periods of excellence, and have been part of Cup winning teams, or gone deep in the playoffs, with extensive production in the post season, as opposed to Kaprizov. Awarding KK with a 9M contract clearly would be overvaluing him, by any reasonable standard.

Guerin is going to wreck this team. 14 million in dead cap space and 9 million to a non ppg player who played 32 out of 56 games against LA Ana Sj and Arizona with only 1 year of experience in the nhl.

Guerin didn't create the dead space, he dealt with it ahead of time, realistically 3 year of pain instead of 5 or the unknown if we traded them. Plus we can kind of plan around it, like we are doing right now so it might not wreck us. Not an ideal situation to be sure but a good time to get younger and cheaper and see if our drafting will pay off.

Here is the top 10 goal scorers

Matthews - 11.6 M
McDavid - 12.5 M
DeBrincat - 6.5 M
Draisaitl - 8.5 M
Rantennen - 9.25 M
Marchand - 6.125
Toffoli - 4.25 M
Kaprizov -
Barkov - 5.9 M
Conner - 7.1 M

Goal scorers get paid. Outliers are Toffoli who shot 8 points higher than his career average, and won't likely repeat and Barkov who signed well before his ELC expired and was coming off a a 16 goal season.

Marchand is a bit of an outlier as well, but the Mathews, McDavid, Marner, Rantenten contracts have kind of changed the game in the 6 years since that was signed.

Can't believe they are paying a 1 year NHL talent 9 million a year for 5 years. This is like Toronto territory stupid!

i agree, he is unproven and should get a short-term tryout deal. It's unreasonable after 55 games in the NHL to force on him long-term (4 years or longer) deals.

Typically, I would agree with this statement....but given Kaprizov's play in the KHL and International events (Olympics, WJC, etc) prior to his season in the NHL, I think he's an exception to this case. He's 24 years old, not 20 or 21.

Of course there is a risk to this deal, but one I think most Wild fans are willing to take.

Looks like you missed Russo's next tweet about the 9 x 5.
He made it very clear that it's just something he thinks, it's not coming from a source.
