Speculation: Russo on the status of Kaprizov’s contract negotiations

Russo has zero KHL knowledge, and thinks their rules are written on toilet paper that they break willy nilly.

Probably aiming for most of the money in 2023/2024 - 2025/2026 season when escrow is fixed at 6%.

No reason to think he'd regress in the near term. Nothing about it was really unsustainable.

He shot 17% last year, he was a career 15% shooter in the KHL. His last 3 years in the KHL he shot 19%.

Anecdotally, a few months ago I checked into the high end KHLers and there wasn't any evidence of dropping off in shooting percentage transitioning between leagues. Kovalachuk was the only one that seemed to have a drop off on returning from the KHL, but that's likely due to his age and is a huge drop off from his prior NHL numbers as well.

56 games is a tiny sample size. 9 million on a max deal would be worth the risk but 5 years seems a little high imo.
