An one-year tryout deal would be better for Minnesota?

No. I'm perfectly ok with Guerin gambling on the fact that Kaprizov's single NHL season was no fluke and offering him a long term contract. $9 million might be a million or so more than I like, but its not a deal breaker, IMO.

I wonder if part of the holdup is KK waiting to see if NHL players will be participating in the Olympics?

a 1, 2 or 3 year deal for the Wild is terrible...not sure why you think a 1 yr deal would be better for MN.
There's a lot of moaning about the rumored 5x$9M deal in this thread. It's too much, he is an unproven bum and so on. Maybe a short-term cheap deal would be a nice compromise for both parties.

You'll notice most of those comments aren't coming from Wild fans.

By and large, we're good with the five year gamble.

Yep, we are happy to pay up. Kap kind of carried the team, pay him and build around him.

That’s the person who thinks Kaprizov has been treated unfairly in this situation and that Kaprizov should just get whatever the **** he wants.

That radio name lol. Miss Jared Allen on the Vikes.

"Let's see Paul Allen's contract. Look at the subtle front loading, the tasteful AAV of it. Oh my God.... it even has a signing bonus."

Wild Olympics tiers: Which players could represent their country in Beijing?

Sounds like hes really digging in on wanting to get walked right to UFA.
to him, the market has been set as Panarin type numbers, and he has a lot of faith in himself that he would prove that worth, and not interested in a safer contract, to get money now but a bit less of it.

Also Minnesota is digging in because their extreme cap issues. They can't offer a standard show-me deal, like Panarin got to have.

I was always guessing that this deal had to be 4 years, because that's the minimum that Minnesota can allow this deal to be in order to get past their cap problem.

So I'll guess that maybe the hold up is that the deal was pushed to 5 years, but Kap wants that to be put back to 4
