I like Krebs ... when he's a rat.

Unfortunately I don't see him amounting to much.

I think it would be advantageous to deal him before it's too late and he has no value.

No - it's not just a case of replacing Olofsson - who if you didn't notice is a healthy scratch currently.

Savoie (along with Kulich) will need to beat out the likes of Quinn, Peterka, Mitts - because that's who they should be directly competing against.
That's an arbitrary competition you have created and it may very well not be how Granato and Adams see things. In fact, I'd be shocked if it was.

Cya Vic.

So you're saying there's no threshold of performance Savoie can perform at that would permit him making the NHL team.

Yeah, that's not how it works. If you perform at a high level and force your way on, you are in.

Again I think there's a good chance you are going to be very upset in the fall.

Not even saying I disagree with sending him down, I like the idea of letting Savoie slide another year to coincide with Skinner expiring as I said before. But if he performs and produces, that's that.

Why would I be upset? I’m just being realistic about Savoie’s chances given our roster makeup. I like Savoie. But given his ELC slide status and not being able to go to the AHL, he’s going to have to be significantly better than one of Quinn/peterka/Krebs

I'm guessing you will be upset, because it's clear you don't want Savoie on the roster (and not even saying I would disagree with that), and there is a very real chance he could be. That's all.

The only reason I would be upset about Savoie making the team would be if it represented the management failing to address the pressing needs that will improve the team. Maybe the roster changes significantly enough by than that there is a spot for Savoie/Kulich to compete for. As things stand, I don’t see it happening.

What has Adams done to indicate to you that Savoie isn't exactly the kind of player he wants in the top 9? He is the one who drafted 3 sub 6-ft forwards in the first round last year.

Based on what we know, it is very reasonable to assume Adams envisions 3 lines of speed and scoring. Because those are the kinds of guys we have coming into the pipeline.

If Savoie is on the roster then its just another sign of the team being cheap and refusing to spend money on players they need. :sarcasm:
If we are spending below the cap floor again next year (and yes, that is still possible if they move out olofsson), it’d be a conversation to have. However, we are speaking in hypotheticals here. Id like to assume our days below the cap floor are over.

Well, to your point, Adams hasn’t said anything to say that isn’t what he wants. However, if his plan for improvement involves running 3 lines that have no idea to play in their own zone, then it’s a competency discussion we should be having. Especially after we’ve seen our season torpedoed because we have 3 lines that don’t know how to play in their own zone.

I’m kind of hoping he can carve out a Brandon Hagel type role on the team. I know that’s asking a lot, but he has the tools to contribute to our team in a similar way. He’s also insanely young too, I think his game is going to mature well and he’ll be a great complete player.

The plan can not be Levi and Comrie/UPL next year.

The plan can not be going into another year without another top 4 D.

These can not be controversial statements.

They have the most cap and most assets and two glaring needs.

This front office needs to do the job they’ve avoided for years or we need a new front office.

Put simply…they can not throw Levi out there with no backup plan and not shore up the defense in front of him. Period. Inexcusable if they continue down the path they have been

You forgot the most important item this team needs to address next year.

A defensive coaching overhaul.

There are probably 50+ goalies that have played games in the league this year that are going to give you very similar results to what this team is getting from UPL/Comrie without major changes in the way this team defends.

There are probably less than 10 goalies in the league that might actually make a difference behind this current team defense, and it is unlikely any of them are available.

Fix the defensive issues, THEN find a goalie who's style fits the team's strength and weaknesses.

Clifton, 5 yrs x $4.6 million. There's upside there, and a long-term deal for 30 year old Mayfield would be a mistake.

Some smart signings, short term deals of course. Adin Hill, he is young and consistently good across a few different teams. Injuries are a concern but also mean he won't be getting a big contract from anyone. Hathaway as a bottom 6 pest. Nosek as a face-off guy and PK specialist.

Jost has been good, and like Clifton there is upside there. Kind of a no-brainer to bring him back and he likes playing here. Am OK with Girgs/Okposo as 13&14 if they are OK with those roles and $1.5M 1-year deals.

Trade idea. Chicago has the TBL 1st, should be at 20 or 21 overall.
Sabres 1st and 2nd for 20/21 overall and Murphy. Take Simashev at 20/21.

Skinner TT Tuch
Peterka Cozens Quinn
Mitts Krebs Greenway
Nosek Jost Hathaway
Girgs/Okposo

Sammy Dahlin
Power Clifton
Stillman Joker
Bryson/U-bush

Hill
UPL
Levi

Give UPL 40 games to see if he is a legit backup. Ideally Hill/UPL can work next season and both stay healthy. Ideally you can let Levi cook a full year in Rochester.

It's a 2-way line that plays a heavy cycle game on the board -- all 3 are very good along the boards. I think you're underrating Mitts' shot....his wrist/snap shot is underrated-ly good. Cycle the puck down low, get it to the point, then get in front of the net.

Mitts has shown the ability to take faceoffs, so I trust that a year of focus there will get him to 50%. Greenway is terrific positionally in his own zone, which allows Krebs and Mitts to aggressively puck hunt while playing D.
If we want to see if it works, then they need to do it the rest of the year. I would be concerned if that line was our plan for our rebuilt bottom 6 going into camp next year. I also don't know how effective Greenway would be on his offwing. I have made several posts showing why I think there is only room in the future for ONE of Mitts/Greenway, and its in the 3rd line LW spot. We will see what they do.

Your just trying to make people cry. I will be trying to get KA fired if Olofsson makes it to training camp.

As things stand, I've decided I'm done guessing on Kulich/Savoie making the team until there's resolution on whether or not Z and Okposo are staying.

You can't bring up more kids, improve your pk, and keep those 2. Too many bodies.

you want to improve your PK by jettisoning your best defender ?

I think he's pointing out that adding kulich/savoie and keeping Okposo/Z will exclude us from adding more defensive forwards, which would be status quo for the PK.
