Not a fan of trading a first in this situation.

Have to sink or swim with the "next man up." Maybe a waiver claim or two if there's anyone better who gets waived in the coming month.

Considering the cost which is nothing, the Isles should be in on Reilly. The waiver wire order is based on this season’s records so I suspect he’ll be picked up by a team in need with a worse record.

Where do we go from here? Zadarov and Hanafin are the obvious names out there but I don’t see that happening despite any desperation Lou might have. We’d have to send futures of which we have few and more importantly salary to send back. Any contracts of value that we might send back in a trade (and there aren’t many) would make our offense worse while our defense would also likely be worse even with an addition.

The current players are just gonna have to find another gear and hold on while Pelech is out.

If Lamoriello can get an extension in place for a player he can trade salary out and have a worse team this year with the hope of it being a better team next year he might do it. I wouldn't do it though.

Pelech Dobson
Romanov Pulock
Hanifin Mayfield

That group of 6 is pretty good (in no particular order). I just don't see how the Islanders have the pieces for Hanifin + the salary it'd take to re-sign him to make it worthwhile in the long run. Zadarov is a fine player and I'd like him over Aho but I can't see how they get him and sign up for anything I'd be interested in giving up. He's also not going to move the needle that much and isn't addressing a real defensive need beyond a step up from our crappy #6 defensemen.

Not sure. Clearly he's not good enough for legitimate contenders, as he has been bought out by Boston and waived by cup finalist Florida.

But if the Isles are not willing to give other players decent minutes, I can't see him at an easily waiverable 1M being too much an issue to at least try.
I know nothing about Reilly, but don’t forget Ekblad and Montour just came off IR, so maybe him being dropped may be more of a numbers game than actual play?

Woof...career minus defenseman with little offense, oh well...desperate times
Times are desperate. Hesitancy to call up a defenseman from Bridgeport speaks volumes, and the schedule has us playing every other day until December 20th.

Yep. For anyone hoping one of those guys really develops I wouldn't hold your breath. They'd rather go to the recycling bin than play anyone down there again.

I recall he played well in the regular season the same year Boston met the Isles in the playoffs. I was hoping that Boston and the Isles could arrange some three-team cap dump where Bailey was sent out for Reilly. With his skating I was hoping for a poor man's Leddy who could compliment Mayfield's game.

I guess we'll see...

Here's what I have:

Romanov-Dobson
Bolduc-Pulock
Reilly-Mayfield

With Reilly and Romanov keeping Bolduc's minutes down to around 12-15.

I’ve been saying im not biggest Bolduc fan but this is chance to out the tools he clearly has together and seize spot here. Reilly can play in nhl in right role and isles get him for free, down the line he’s better depth then they had I believe assuming hopefully Pelech returns or they make another trade for someone else.

If you are the isles, you MUST have him play games. You cannot him him just 7-10 minutes a night. This team needs defensemen to take the pressure off of Romanov, Dobson and Pulock.

Yeah I watch all baby isles games and it’s limited, Hutton I think could play 12-15 mins a game for a short stretch and Salo probably could also but beyond that it’s not good.
