If someone would’ve told you a few years back that we’d have 2 of the 3 Thompsons you’d have to feel pretty good about that.
He’s also an Oyster Bay native so he’s got that going for him.

We’re worrying about bottom 6 forward prospects who are 24 years old? LMAO

Durandeau is another too small for the NHL type. Thompson has actually some NHL games under his belt, if that makes anyone feel better.

I’m confident Lou did not let the next Carter Verhaeghe get away.
They're basically the same size and 11 nhl games isn't much. It's just an odd trade to me. Durandeau showed more promise than Thompson at the AHL level IMO but I guess neither will make an impact on the isles 🤷

Durandeau has really struggled, looked like a player who knew his time was up here and wasn’t going to play in NHL.

One AHL player for another. No big deal.

Durandeau started the season injured and hasn’t found any traction since he returned.

Thompson is interesting only in that he is very physical player, the times he plays against Bridgeport he is always finishes checks. Neither guy probably makes it but Thompson is probably more suited as fourth liner than Durandeau was.
I’d say Durandeau’s path to the NHL just got tougher. The Devils problems are not their forwards.

I know people roll their eyes at others getting frustrated at AHL trades. But I really did see an NHL player in Durandeau. It may not be a top 6 role, but with our aging bottom 6, he would've been perfect.

Underwhelmed with Tyce's NHL career so far, and don't see much from him. Unfortunate move, and I hope Arnaud finds his way to the show on a permanent basis.

I wanted to see Durandeau get time in the NHL when the fourth line is finally dismantled. I know nothing about Thompson and only saw Durandeau a limited number of times but I always liked what I saw.
Thinking some more about this trade, maybe Thompson fits Lou’s vision of what he wants out of a 4th line player.

Bolduc Problem is… his 7-10 minutes, there are no times where I see anything good. He has no urgency or pace to his game and looks like he’s playing scared all the time. He just doesn’t seem like he wants the puck. He’s actually has looked worse then his first days with club. Confidence is shot !
That also is a massive issue because holy crap he is BAD

The Islanders are losing their way up the standings.
When the entire Metro is tripping on itself, its going to hurt like hell when the isles miss with like 17 OTL's. They BADLY need to not make it if this OT/SO record continues. I am flip flopping but this is true.

Why do people think Bolduc will get claimed, he is horrible

I'm not saying he will get claimed but sometimes players just need to get the reps but can't because the organization they're on is trying to compete. If a team not necessarily trying to make the playoffs sees something in him they might take him just because they can afford to give him those reps since it doesn't matter if they lose games.

So the question is, does he have enough talent to warrant a claim from a bottom 10 NHL team that isn't competing?

Even with the better results lately - this team is still struggling to score goals as well as suppress high danger shots - either leaving their goalies to pick up the slack or their d men to block dozens of shots a night.

As much as the Engvall contract length looks onerous - he is exactly the type of player this team needs more of - fast, skilled, and a strong possession player to compliment the guys who play a heavier game on this team.

A deal I have proposed before and I think would inject more of the things this team needs -

Pageau 30, C, (3/5 AAV) UFA 2026
Wahlstrom, RW, 23, (1/.875K) RFA 2024
For
Garland, 26, RW, (3/4.95 AAV) UFA 2026
Hoglander, 23, F, (2/1.1 AAV) RFA 2025

120K diff in Cap hit.

Isles could line up in no particular order

Engvall Nelson Palmieri
Lee Horvat Garland/Hoglander
Holmstrom Barzal Garland/Hoglander

They could also expand the deal to include either Blueger or Suter for someone like Fasching. Vancouver would have to retain some $ on Blueger/Suter to make the $ work out.

If it were Suter then they could move Barzal back to LW with Horvat and Garland could be RW. Suter could C Holmstrom and Hoglander and the Isles could introduce a new identity line of Lee, Cizikas and Cal

The way the organization has handled Bolduc is questionable at best. He barely gets games in and when he gets games in it is for less than 15 minutes per game. It is going to be difficult for anyone to look good doing that. If you go back on this board you will see multiple posts about young defenseman such as Pelech, Mayfield, Pulock, Dobson, and Romanov that are very negative. I am not saying Bolduc will become one of them but he is something worth trying to develop. He can skate fairly well and has size.
