Obviously scoring is still an issue and quite honestly we have too many forwards anyway. Trading for Laine would be an upgrade to the top 6 and a serious scoring winger. It would start with Walstrom and contract wise I would think Palms would also go along with a pick. Walstrom has not developed for us and Palms is a decent contract for a vet for 2 more years. Laine is 25 in his own right along with Horvat and Barzal has to jumpstart the offense. The 3rd period blowing leads is unbelievable right now but its a structure thing imo, the defenseman are fine....the team defense isn't. If I'm off on the compensation for Laine fine....but I think a sniper needs to be added to the roster.

He's never played LW in his professional career, nor would he ever consider coming here. This post is not in touch with reality in the slightest.

Pulock was possibly the Isles best skater in the playoffs last season, and the games I've seen he's looked pretty good to me this year. Yeah, he doesn't score points, but I think his puck movement especially out of the defensive zone and in the neutral zone has been good. I must be in the minority who think he's worth what he's being paid (or if it's an overpay it's pretty minor).

You’re not alone but it has become the latest trend to criticize Pulock. While Pelech is showing signs of breaking down Pulock has not. Plus Pulock handles the transition game better.
 
We are one game away from the magic 20 game mark, a milestone I told myself I would wait for until I made any judgement. Well, 19 games is close enough I suppose.

We’re not far off from what I expected and honestly a little better. For the most part, we’ve beaten teams we should have and haven’t fared well against better teams. Our schedule has been soft but that’s about to change.

As fans, we don’t know a hell of a lot. Here are some of the amusing hot takes we’ve seen over the course of this season.

Dobson sucks
Dobson is trending to be a #1 RHD
Sorokin will be a perennial Vezina candidate
Sorokin should be dealt. By the time this team can contend he’ll be well into his 30s and goalies are never worth their contracts
Barzal sucks
Barzal is pretty good but sometimes he still sucks
Wally is worthless
Wally is turning the corner
Lee and JGP are done
No counter arguments to this last one.

We still have to play the games. So far it’s not pretty but they’re competitive. I only hope that the team does well but Lou doesn’t trade yet another first round pick.

Give it another week or two and this board might do another 180.

Hats off to you for making it 20 games. I made a similar promise to myself but threw in the towel after the Seattle game. I'm sticking by my Chicken Little pessimism, though the last few games have been a nice surprise.

The team is scrappy and plays with some heart. But I'll be sticking with my original call that our ceiling this year is a wild card spot.

They're a team battling for a wild card spot, like most predicted. Everything else is the ebbs and flows of a season.

Also, Wahlstrom still stinks. :laugh:;)

Not sure. Clearly he's not good enough for legitimate contenders, as he has been bought out by Boston and waived by cup finalist Florida.

But if the Isles are not willing to give other players decent minutes, I can't see him at an easily waiverable 1M being too much an issue to at least try.
 
Pelech to LTIR. Yikes. Definitely broken wrist. Only made sense to add with a healthy lineup. If Lou adds now it’s a wash. Better not be a rental. Makes no sense.

Considering the cost which is nothing, the Isles should be in on Reilly. The waiver wire order is based on this season’s records so I suspect he’ll be picked up by a team in need with a worse record.

Where do we go from here? Zadarov and Hanafin are the obvious names out there but I don’t see that happening despite any desperation Lou might have. We’d have to send futures of which we have few and more importantly salary to send back. Any contracts of value that we might send back in a trade (and there aren’t many) would make our offense worse while our defense would also likely be worse even with an addition.

The current players are just gonna have to find another gear and hold on while Pelech is out.
