Even 3-4 million won't do much for the Islanders UNLESS they get rid of Bailey, Palmieri and Pageau. Then they can start afresh.
The salary cap could be going up by $3-4 million for 2023-24 season
Since the advent of the National Hockey League's salary cap following...flamesnation.ca
Heck, they may even be forced into a Bjorkstrand type trade just to get JGP off the books.

Good for Kyle McLean. He's been a hard worker on an AHL contract the last 2 years.
I hope Vincent Sevigny is offered an NHL contract next. Chris Terry too, although at his age it's not likely to happen.
All I know about Kuefler is by watching the video of his hat-trick, which were all within 5' of the net, and that he led the team in PIMs his last 2 seasons in the WHL. Does anyone know whether that about sums it up?
I believe the hope with Kuefler is that he becomes the next Matt Martin for this franchise.
That seems to be the profile to date.
Admittedly, I thought they'd go tthe Coskey/Bibeau route with him, but it was time to have him added to the organization.
Always thought that, if anything, MacLean was turning out to be the kind of guy you foster as a replacement for Casey Cizikas.
Been (I believe) on two AHL contracts, so it's very interesting that A) now he gets his first 2-way gig and B) that it's only for one year.
Dunno what exactly that says, although depth is depth.
MacLean is one of the few prospects I actually got to see in person as an amateur, playing for Oshawa in an over-age season. (I don’t comment on players until I see them play in person)
MacLean was undrafted, if I’m not mistaken. Anyway, I think Cizikas is a good comparable for MacLean. High energy, average size, gets to the front of the net. Nothing outstanding about his shot.

Bailey’s contract will be gone next season and hopefully this off-season. There won’t be any Bjorkstrand deals once the cap begins to rise.
3-4m is possibly for 2023-2024 season, then another possible jump of 5-6 in 2024-2025. The Cap by the time Sorokin’s extension kicks in could be as low as 88 and as high as 92.
The two most likeliest candidates to see a long term extension 1 season before UFA will be Matthews and Sorokin.

Honestly it’s better than 50/50 that Dubas is here in some role if not just outright hired as GM, Dubas has always spoken highly of Lou and Lou has also been very supportive in comments on Dubas. I’d be willing to keep open mind, it didn’t work but honestly I thought Dubas did good job at deadline addressing Leafs weaknesses.
Marner is a great player but has a brutal personality, pass.

That's not a good deal for the Islanders...
Marner is a great player and someone who would be an excellent addition to the top 3, but not at the expense of Barzal and Pulock. Liljegren sucks.
I'd consider Marner for Bailey and Dobson. Isles would have to add a QB for the PP... possibly Ghost or Severson? The Cap would need to go up this season for the Isles to consider a Marner trade

Marner plays in all situations and is not only the stronger player but the more productive one. And The Isles would have Marner for 2 more seasons versus an impending UFA.
