I'll bet CHI would have some interest in taking on Bailey - he'd be a perfect fit. Eats up $5M in cap space but gets paid less, vet leader, won't screw up next year's tank. But I'd rather not pay an asset to send him away and would prefer some kind of salary for salary trade, if possible.
Probably better to let Bailey go to Chicago so the isles can sign a puck mover

Any interest in signing Tank. I'd invest Engvall's money into him. If the window is small and the team is in win-now mode, he fits the mold.
?

Who do you mean by Tank?

For umpteenth time, how do you fit someone like him under the cap?? It's not about who this team could use or want, it's about who they can afford. The Islanders have five roster spots to fill and $6 million to do it.

I always thought tank would have been a good fit on the isles, but after last year’s performance on the rags I’m not so sure he’d move the needle enough for what it’d cost.

Lou better have something planned that’s all I’ll say because lord knows we’re not getting a big time UFA
I agree. NYI are going to be active on the trade front if they're going to seek real improvement. But even so, it'll like feel a lot like robbing Peter to pay Paul.

We know nothing about the cap as of yet and no GM can sign players supposing it goes up.

Clutterbuck, Martin, and Bailey comes off as does Sorokin. Guess where the money goes?
But we do.
The players are paying off their debt - possibly by the end of this season - new TV deal is a big reason for that AND players have been able to decrease the escrow. Where does the $ that is earmarked for the debt go, when there is no more debt?

23-24 WILL see a big jump in the cap. It has already been stated - it is not a matter of IF - just When- if the league is able to pay off 100m in debt by this season, then the cap will go up- IF not, then by CBA the league only needs to raise it by 1m.

I wonder if and at what cost it woupd be to pull Nylander or Marner out of Toronto. They are desperate for a good RD. I wonder if something around Pulock for Nylander could work. Assuming Nylander came with an extension.

what about Pulock for Kempe?..might leave a hole in our D though. Maybe Hutton and Salo/Wotherspoon is good enough?

He is a player whos been on the decline since 2019. Isles need orlov way more than Tank

There are so many possible trades that could be considered between NYI & Toronto involving so many possible players that it would be impossible to list them all. Obviously the main targets for NYI would be Nylander or Marner. Potential targets for TOR would include Barzal, Pageau, Pelech, Pulock, Romanov, or Dobson. Other players would have to be involved to make things work. I don't even want to speculate on values or potential moves, or whether they'd be fair or not, or picking winners based on speculation. All I'm saying is that there's potential for a blockbuster there.

If you're looking at a simple 'Pulock for scoring winger' deal, I'd look to WPG first: Pulock for Ehlers. But I don't think it's a game changer for NYI, unless they are also able to shed Bailey's contract, and sign a top-4 UFA RD.

I’d be weary to trade Pulock after the playoffs Dobson and Pelech just had.
Pelech was hurt. Probably muscle or soft tissue because there's no surgery, so no announcement. My guess would be groin, hamstring, or back. But I feel certain it was something.

NYI *could* trade Dobson instead. Perhaps another team would look at his age, stats, contract, etc. and overvalue him.

Isn’t everyone hurt this time of year? I’m not really buying that.

Also, I’m not advocating trading Pelech, just pointing out that Pulock elevated all facets of his game during the Carolina series while Dobson and Pelech looked intimidated by Carolina.

The Islanders need to play with more pace going forward if they ever want to have sustained success. Also Pace ≠ Speed, pace is how quickly you process the game and make decisions, you can still be an average or below average skater and play with pace successfully.

Okay so we trade Pulock for a winger.

...then who is playing D? Salo and Aho? Coaxing Chara out of retirement?

this is a game of whack a mole until we have cap space. Unfortunately this is our team next year again. the cap relief comes starting in 2024. until then unless lou is Houdini, we are stuck.

You think Pelech looked intimidated, but not hobbled? Really? Come on.

Dobson did lose his poise, which made him no different than the rest of NYI's PP unit. He's struggled all year long on and off.

Obviously it does little good to trade Pulock without being able to replace him. But Pulock is far more replaceable than Pelech.

If you are trading Dobson ir better be for a Keller or Marner quality winger.
