You're not getting a 2nd in any year for Josh Bailey.

If Chicago takes him with no salary retention and no strings attached, accept a 6th round pick and be happy you got it. It's a gift.

I don't think that is even possible. Anyone that takes him would require some asset gain. Maybe something like Bailey and our 2nd for one of Chicago's 3rd round picks, and the cap space gained would be well worth that.

I hope he means Isles are giving a 2nd for Chicago to Bailey. I could see that.

I meant 2024 2nd + Bailey to Chicago for nothing. I am not tripping.

See above, NYI is sending their 2024 2nd to Chicago along with Bailey for nothing in return other than maybe a minor league body or a 6th/7th.

I'll bet CHI would have some interest in taking on Bailey - he'd be a perfect fit. Eats up $5M in cap space but gets paid less, vet leader, won't screw up next year's tank. But I'd rather not pay an asset to send him away and would prefer some kind of salary for salary trade, if possible.

I would prefer Orlov over severson for that cap hit. No Bolduc? I’d prefer him over Aho.

Any interest in a trade for Alex Debrincat (rumored to want an extension at $7.5-8M but seems like he may not want to stay in Canada...) with JG Pageau heading back to Ottawa (+ fillers)?
I was incredibly angry how little he fetched for last offseason because I knew he would've been the perfect fit.

I love Pageau, but would do this trade in a heartbeat.

The Bailey talk is heating up again.

We all enjoy playoff hockey but was there realistically a chance of us winning the Cup this year? Flipping Mayfield +/- Varly at the TDL would’ve given the Isles all that’s needed (and more) to move Bailey this offseason.

Moves like that at the TDL don’t mean you’re tanking or rebuilding. You might just call it smart asset management. Alternatively, you could just double down on what was never a winning hand and empty the cupboard even more.

If you trade those two in the midst of a playoff push after acquiring Horvat, you are signaling to the team that the season is over.

The season was on life support in my mind. Sure anything can happen once you’re in but doubling down on a mediocre hand has consequences in the form of lost opportunities.

I’ll agree with you regarding the disconnect regarding trading players after acquiring Horvat. But then again, I was against the Horvat trade all along. I wasn’t against a trade per se using those particular assets but not for him.

So far I’m right. Hey, it happens sometimes.

I've just gotten back from the future and can let everyone know that Holmstrom's next five seasons will look like this:
5-12-17
11-23-34
20-24-44
18-41-59
33-52-85

Don't shoot the messenger...
I'm going to play those numbers tonight in Powerball, did they hit?

Ideally they should, but cap constrains makes it difficult. Islanders cannot sign anyone to any major deal before Bailey, Martin, Clutterbuck, Palmieri and Pageau are all off the books.
That is not true.

Bailey, Martin, Cal will all be off the books by next season and Dobson and Romanov will not need raises until after the following season when Palmieri will be off the books with Nelson.

The Cap is also going to see a significant rise in 2024-2025 possibly up to 89

DC, you're arriving to this party roughly 9 days too late.

Within hours after ChiTown got awarded the 1st overall pick, all these thoughts and sentiments were making their way through the matrix. Where you been?

But I'd rather not pay an asset to send him away and would prefer some kind of salary for salary trade, if possible.

It would be an absolute major fail if our GM can't solve the Bailey situation without giving another team draft capital to take him off our hands.

Alone placing him in BPort (which would cost respect on a number of fronts) is one option.

Heck, even buying him out would "only" mean a 2-year cap hit:

I'm certain management and Bailey will sit down and decide what's best based on what each party wants.

If Bailey wants to continue his NHL career, then he needs to be ready to move to whatever situation Lou can place him in in a manner that isn't a burden to the Isles, because the options I just mentioned are still on the table.

We know nothing about the cap as of yet and no GM can sign players supposing it goes up.

Clutterbuck, Martin, and Bailey comes off as does Sorokin. Guess where the money goes?

Why would I shoot you? That would be fabulous, although I'm curious is that 5-12-17 stat line a whole season in the NHL? Be curious to see if LL will have patience with output like that.

Oh, I didn't think I was first - it just really is a good fit for CHI. Bailey can be Ed Westfall to their kids. And agreed it should happen without having to give up assets. But yeah, a day late and a dollar short.

Any interest in signing Tank. I'd invest Engvall's money into him. If the window is small and the team is in win-now mode, he fits the mold.
