Does anyone else think we should extend sorokin immediately? I'd offer him ten aav and lock him up. This team without him is bottom five imo.

By then Barzal will be 29 and he’ll be the bad contract on the books.
He'll be 27.

Yeah but less than $7 million off the books. Until Palms and Pageau or Lee are gone the Isles are in a bad spot, ie. for years.
Palmieri and Nelson come off the following year and Lee the year following that.

And so it goes. On and on. Everyone comes off the books at some point but to resign Sorokin they need to get rid in less than year. The isles problem is twofold: aging players and lengthy deals. At best they might stick around playoff contention for another year or two. After that it looks pretty bleak.

He may literally be the best goalie in the league. There is no goalie from last year’s Vezina voting top 6 goalies, that are in the top 3 this year, except Sorokin. What I mean by that is, I would venture to say, over the last two years, I would bet Sorokin has the best stats of any goalie, if you combined the last 2 years. Which means he’s extremely consistent.

I was shocked to read he was 6th in the Vezina voting last year, he should’ve been a finalist. Was 2nd in the league in shutouts and save percentage, and 4th in goals against. On a non playoff team no less. Maybe that’s why he was 6th, he was on a bad team. But stats wise, he should’ve been a finalist.

Marner has two more years on his contract with a $10.9 million cap hit. But, crucially, his no-movement clause kicks in on July 1, meaning that if the Leafs had any intention of dealing him, they have a month and a half to do so.

Barzal for Marner anyone?

Bailey + Dobson + rights to Mayfield for Marner + Liljegren?

Wouldn’t be surprised if Lou tried to pry someone out of Toronto…

I think Colorado was the closest thing to what we saw the Penguins do.
Colorado is interesting in that they are a realization of what Toronto aspired to… but failed to achieve.

Avalanche have better distribution of their top players along roster positions. They were also much quicker at identifying and getting quality depth.

Dubas opening the door to not returning.

How has Lou or ownership or anyone representing the organization not spoken to the public yet. Getting shameful.

Even if Lou spoke, he’d be getting softball questions because anyone actually taking a shot at him for his shortcomings would have their media rights revoked before you can say “Yabadabadoo”.

This would be a reporter trying to question Lou .

Count all the bad contracts on the books. Not every one was mentioned by name.
Isles had no interest in Lee at 7/7 but when Tavares left they had no choice because they couldn’t afford to lose that much offense.

Florida made great signings last year and the year before with very good players getting 3 or 4 million AAV. We pay 5 or 6 for guys you want to unload after a year or two but can’t.
